Mr. Dai Suyou, 73 years old, lived in the Huodian Apartment in Jilin City, Jilin Province. In January of 2001, he went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong and returned home safely, owing to righteous thoughts. In May 2001, the police arrested him in a fellow practitioner's home and sent him to a detention center. He was released after over 20 days' detention. After that, the police often harassed him at home, knocking heavily on the door at midnight, tailing him, and monitoring his daily activities. He was able to dodge the monitoring but had to leave his blind wife and ten-day-old granddaughter on their own. In October 2001, Mr. Dai was forced to become homeless. He had been persecuted for keeping up his belief in Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance. He died on February 17, 2005.
