53.   Tian Xiangcui, female, 61, Qujiagou, Fengyi Town, Longkou City, Shandong Province. 

Tian was a Falun Gong practitioner and detained at the Fengyi town government facilities on July 12th or 13th, 2000, for going to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. Lead by Cao Chengxu, the staff at Fengyi town government persecuted 17 Falun Gong practitioners, including Tian Xiangcui. On the first day, a strong male practitioner was beaten up so badly that he had to be carried by two staff members to use the bathroom, as he couldn't go on his own. The practitioners were forced to stand still for the whole day under the burning sun, facing east in the morning and west in the afternoon. The staff also beat the practitioners twice a day, once in the morning and again in the afternoon. Oftentimes, four or five people surrounded and beat one practitioner.

Because Tian Xiangcui had a Falun Dafa banner in her bag, she was beaten the most. The staff beat her at noon when it was the hottest time during the summer months. They not only beat her with their hands and feet, but also with an electric baton. Due to the heat in the summer and the severe beating, Tian was not able to eat anything and coughed badly while she was detained in the town government. Her phlegm also smelled badly. On July 17th, Tian and other practitioners were jailed in the Zhangjia Gou detention center. Tian went into a coma. Three days later, on July 20th, Tian's family members were told to take her home. Tian remained in a coma after returning home. On July 22nd, Tian was sent to the hospital. She never regained consciousness and passed away.

Tian's daughter said that Tian didn't say a word after being taken home. Her body was covered with wounds. The hospital was not able provide medical report.

52.  Ge Xiulan, female, 51, Huaian City, Jiangsu Province.

 

Since the persecution of Falun Gong by the Chinese government last July, Ge Xiulan went to various levels of local governments, several times, to tell the truth about Falun Gong. As a consequence, she was persecuted to death. Policemen and people from the neighborhood watch moved into her home, watching her 24 hours a day. They followed her closely even when she went to use the bathroom. In early March 2000, she committed suicide with poison due to the unbearable persecution.

 

Since Ge Xiulan practiced Falun Dafa, the pain caused by ligation of her oviducts for many years disappeared and she became very energetic. Though Ge was not formally well educated, she was a kind-hearted, honest person, and always willing to help people. She attained Dafa books from other areas and took them home devoutly. She asked Teacher to help her understand the books. A miracle happened -- she was able to quickly read through Zhuan Falun.

 

 

51. Gao Hua, female, 31, Baiquan County, Heilongjiang Province

 

Gao Hua, female, 31, is a Falun Dafa practitioner in Baiquan County, Heilongjiang Province. She had always been very healthy since she started practicing Falun Dafa in 1996. She went to the Appeals Bureau in Beijing to appeal and present the truth about Falun Dafa to the government on February 7, 2000. Five days later, she was escorted back to Heilongjiang by police and was directly put into the No. 1 Detention Center of Baiquan County together with other criminals. Because of the poor conditions in the detention center, she couldn’t eat and sleep well and started having unhealthy physical symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea. 


A month later, the detention center discovered that Gao Hua was on the verge of death. They thus asked the Gao family to pay RMB5,000 (about US$625, 10-month wage of an average worker in China) in order to release Gao Hua on bail. A few days after Gao got out of the jail, the provincial hospital in Harbin was unable to save her, and she thus left this world.


It had only been 100 days from the time Gao was detained in Baiquan County Detention Center to the time she was persecuted to death. Within this short period of 100 days, a Dafa practitioner with a healthy mind and body was tortured to death by the authorities in the Baiquan County Detention Center. Is this how the people’s government of China treat the Dafa practitioners who are among the kindest and who show the best behavior of all the citizens under all circumstances?

We Falun Dafa practitioners in Mainland China hereby call upon all kindhearted people in the world to pay close attention to what is happening to Falun Gong in China. We hope the international community and human rights organizations will urge the Chinese government to obey the universal Declaration of Human Rights, respect its own Constitution, immediately stop its inhumane persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners, and immediately release all jailed practitioners.

 

50. Lin Limei, female, Qitaihe City, Heilongjiang Province

 

Falun Dafa practitioner Lin Limei and her younger sister Lin Lifen (other name Liu Lihua) of Qitaihe City of Heilongjiang Province, went to Beijing to appeal in the middle of this May. They were detained at the Qitaihe Liason Office in Beijing. A few days later, Qitaihe city police took Li Lifen and some other practitioners back to their hometown. At the time, Qitaihe police said that Lin Limei belonged to the Forestry Bureau of Bolie County which was not under the jurisdiction of Qitaihe City. They left Lin Limei at the Liason Office in Beijing. Because of this, the people in the Liason Office were furious towards Lin Limei and they later notified the Police Department of Forestry Bureau of Bolie County to send somebody to Beijing to take Lin Limei back. However, after those people who were from Police Department of Forestry Bureau of Bolie County arrived at Beijing, they went sight-seeing in Beijing. By the time they finished their sight-seeing tour in Beijing and got to the Liason Office, Lin Limei was already dead. They informed Lin’s family about her death and told them that Lin had died by jumping out of the building. However, Lin Limei died with her hands hand-cuffed behind her back. Her body was facing up and impaled on top of an iron fence. Her death scene was too horrible to look at. Based on an experts’ opinion, a death like this is definitely not a suicide. They suspected that somebody murdered her. After her younger sister was brought back to Qitaihe City, her detention was extended for another 30 days when her original 15 days detention had ended. When she asked about the situation of her elder sister, she was told by the head of the detention center that her elder sister was being treated in the hospital. They thus extended the detention of the younger sister for no reason in order to cover up the truth of the incident.

49.    Zhang Tieyan, Female, 29, Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province

Zhang Tieyan, female, 29, graduate of a vocational school, worked at a Heilongjiang petroleum oil factory (Daqing City’s Lama Dianhua Factory). Because Zhang Tieyan did not sign a guarantee saying she would give up Falun Dafa, on April 19, 2000, her office placed her under house arrest for 3 days. On April 21, she was sent to the Ranghu Street Detention Center for 15 days. On May 5, she was taken to the Saertu District Detention Center until 5:30 am on August 11. At that time her screams of pain could be heard; she felt like she was chocking, her four limbs were convulsing, her face turned green, her eyes turned white, and she had no pulse. The guards carried her away to the emergency room at Xincun People’s Hospital at 5:50 am. The cardiograph showed a straight line, and she was determined to be without a pulse. In order to hide what was going to happen, the police took the other Falun Dafa practitioners that went to the hospital back to the detention center. It was later known that Zhang Tieyan passed away that night. Zhang Tieyan’s husband, Yang Qing, is also a Falun Dafa practitioner detained at the same time. Her family’s phone number is 86-459-6724361.

Just because of this Falun Dafa Practitioner’s faith, she was detained for 4 months. When detained, all she ate was sorghum with salt water; this caused her body to become very weak. Adding on the sweltering heat of the summer, being in a room that was just over 10 square meters large holding 14 to 15 people, and the lack of fresh air causing breathing difficulties, she finally died. Everyday in the detention centers people get dizzy, nauseated, confused, and lose strength in their limbs because of lack of oxygen. Sometimes people faint and have to be carried away.

Falun Dafa practitioners in Daqing City are frequently arrested at will, and intentionally detained for long periods of time. Those with power relentlessly trample the Chinese constitution, law, and the will of the heavens; they do not know or believe in the consequences of doing good or evil.

We hope that the good people of the world can unselfishly show solicitude for and offer moral support to the Falun Dafa practitioners in Mainland China.

 

48 & 47.    Zhou Chunmei and her daughter Sun Xiaobo, were forced to defend their belief in Falun Gong with their own lives

Zhou Chunmei, female, 62, was a teacher of the "special provincial classification." She lived in Building #4, Shihuyuan Xiaoqu, Weicheng District, Weifang City, Shandong Province. She began practicing Falun Gong in 1995. 

Her daughter Sun Xiaobo, female, 36, was an elementary school teacher. She lived in Weicheng Chengguan, Weifang City, Shandong Province. She began practicing Falun Gong in 1999. 

Both of them were constantly followed and watched by their work units after going to Beijing to appeal in June 1999. On July 20, 1999, on her way to Beijing to appeal, Zhou Chunmei was intercepted and forcefully dragged onto a police van, which bruised both of her arms. After July 22, 1999, her home was ransacked. At the time, there was a big crowd around watching. In order to protect Falun Dafa books, Zhou Chunmei was dragged into the yard and fell, but she took this opportunity to tell the truth of Falun Dafa to the people around. 

Thereafter, every day the education committee and work unit of both Zhou Chunmei and her daughter would send someone over to force them into giving up practicing Falun Gong. They threatened both women that if they did not give up by certain deadline, they would be detained and punished. Facing tremendous pressure, neither Zhou Chunmei nor her daughter, Sun Xiaobo, gave in; they openly stated their determination to continue practicing Falun Gong. 

On July 27, 1999, Zhou Chunmei and her daughter Sun Xiaobo, were forced to defend their belief in Falun Gong with their own lives. 
 

46.      The Death of Falun Gong Practitioner, Yang Weidong 

Yang Weidong, male, 54, was formerly of the regiment cadre as well as director of the Yaosai Hygiene Clinic in Changsha City, Hunan Province. In 1990, after he transferred to civilian work, he became a medical inspector at the Weifang City Medical Inspection Center, which is located in the Weicheng district, and is under the jurisdiction of the city’s Public Health Bureau. When Yang Weidong was at work, he was awarded the title of "model party member" on several occasions, and consecutively held the post of "Party Representative" for his work unit. Yang Weidong was a studious, responsible and honest worker. He treated people with respect, and took pleasure in helping others; he was renowned in his field as a good person. 

Health and Peace of Mind Gained Through the Fa (teachings of Falun Dafa) 

Before Yang Weidong began practicing Falun Gong, he was unhealthy and weak. He had a serious heart condition, severe tracheitis, gallbladder problems, and other life threatening diseases. It was extremely difficult for him to lie down to sleep, because lying down made it too difficult for him to breathe. He could only sit down to sleep, or walk around a bit in his room. After practicing Falun Gong, all his former diseases were cured without any medical treatment. Yang Weidong often talked about this with his family and other practitioners. Each time he mentioned it, he would sincerely say, with the utmost gratitude and reverence: "If I didn’t practice Falun Gong, my life would have been over a long time ago. It was Falun Gong that extended my life, and it has lead my life onto a truly bright path." 

A Cold Prison Cell Without Sunlight 

On November 19, Yang Weidong went to Beijing to appeal the government's decision to ban Falun Dafa (Falun Gong) and label it an "illegal organization." On the morning of November 23, officers of the Nanguan police substation, in the Weicheng district, of Weifang City brought him back. He was then detained in a "room" at the Nanguan police substation. This room was actually a damp and dark prison cell located in a narrow hallway. It had a window (1 meter high, 1.5 meters wide), with no glass to keep out the cold wind. No sunlight could be seen in this cell year round. At the time of his detention, it was lightly raining, and the temperature outside was 7-8 oC below zero (around 20o F), however, the temperature inside this cell was even lower than outside. The officers at the Nanguan police substation detained the men and women together and didn’t allow them to leave the "room" to eat or use the restroom. Therefore, it was extremely awkward when one of them needed to go to the bathroom. Inside the cell, the cold wind blew in through the open window, and the police did not provide them with any quilt. Under these harsh conditions, Yang Weidong began to lose his health. It was so bitterly cold that he could not sleep, and had trouble breathing. His voice was weak and he could only speak in short segments. He hardly ate anything and was coughing all day long. However, the police turned a blind eye to his poor physical condition. After being detained for two days and one night, he was sent to the Weicheng detention center by his work unit (the Public Health Bureau) on the evening of November 24, and was sentenced to administrative detention. 

Seriously Ill While in Detention 

Since he came to the detention center, Yang Weidong’s health deteriorated even faster, he could barely walk and could not sleep through the night. He could not eat much and only drank gruel on a few occasions. He was coughing violently everyday and could not breath whenever he lay down. Once the detention center required that each individual be photographed, but by that time Yang Weidong could no longer get up from bed, so they had to take a picture of him in his sickbed. Seeing his poor health, the guard only asked him a few questions, but didn’t take any further action to help him. 

Through an amazingly display of willpower, Yang Weidong finished his 15-day administrative detention. However on December 8, his work unit sent him to the male ward of the psychiatric department in Kangfu hospital, against his will. After Yang Weidong was released from the detention center, he refused to be committed to the Kangfu hospital, however his work unit simply ignored him and forcefully committed him against his wishes. In addition, they sent a guard to watch over him, prohibit him from studying the Fa (teachings of Falun Dafa) or practice the exercises. Once detained in a ward for psychiatric patients, his health deteriorated even further. 

By then, Yang Weidong had already developed liver edema, and his lower limbs were swollen. Even the doctor in Kangfu Hospital was frightened upon seeing his condition. He told the guard, who watched Yang Weidong: "He is in a state of physical collapse, how come you do not send him home? His illness is already incurable…" Yang Weidong’s son was working in the psychiatric department of the same hospital, and his office happened to be right across from the ward where Weidong was being held. Because of this, Weidong’s son was ridiculed in his workplace, and his fiancée left him. 

After November, the hospital realized that Yang Weidong was dying, so they asked his family to take him home. After five or six days, on the evening of December 25, Yang Weidong passed away. 

After this, the Nanguan Police Substation immediately declared that Yang Weidong’s death was caused by his practice of Falun Gong and used this lie to frame Falun Gong.

45.     Falun Gong Practitioner, Li Faming, From Gansu Province, Died After Falling From a Building While Being Persecuted by the Police 

Li Faming, male, 52, was formerly from Longxi County, Gansu Province. He was a worker in the North West Aluminum Processing Factory (State Operated Factory 113), a communist party member, and an ex-soldier. He started practicing Falun Gong in May 1998. From then on, he became a healthy person, a good worker who worked hard without complaint, and a good communist party member. 

On February 12, 2000, the police illegally entered and searched his home, confiscated his color TV and detained him for 31 days. According to his own account, he was beaten when the police ransacked his home. 

At around 4:40 pm on August 10, 2000, three police officers took Li Faming home from his job. At 5:30 pm, he fell from his own apartment on the forth floor. He died fifteen minutes after arriving at a hospital. When he fell from the building, all three police officers were present at the scene. At the time, someone from outside his apartment overheard the three police officers yelling loudly and abusively at Li Faming. In reply, Li Faming spoke only one sentence: "I am a Falun Gong practitioner." These were his last words. 

The exact circumstances of his death cannot be verified, but the three police officers present at the scene clearly knew what really happened. 

According to an insider, the police suspected that Li Faming was connected to the distribution of Falun Gong materials. 

After the death of Li Faming, the officials from his factory and the police department held an emergency meeting. They mad a strong statement that his death was due to "committing suicide to escape punishment." They forbade Falun Gong practitioners to hold any memorial service. Within 24 hours, his body was secretly cremated. 

We hope that all people, around the world, who support justice will investigate the human rights conditions in Long Xi County, Gansu Province, China, and the incident of Falun Gong practitioner Li Faming being persecuted to death for practicing Falun Gong.

44.     Falun Gong Practitioner, Wang Xuezhi, of Chengdu City, was killed at a Labor Camp 

Wang Xuezhi, male, 30, was a driver for the bottled water company in Chengdu City. After he learned Falun Gong in 1998, he treasured it (Dafa) as much as his own life. When Falun Gong was under vicious persecution in China, and genuine practitioners were stepping forward bravely to safeguard the Fa, getting arrested, and receiving heavy jail terms, Wang Xuezhi also stepped forward. He publicly practiced the exercises outside by himself last October and was detained for fifteen days. In early December, Wang Xuezhi was again detained in the Chengdu office in Beijing for coming to appeal, and then dispatched back to the Jiuru Village Detention Center in Chengdu. Later, like many other practitioners, he was secretly sentenced to a year and half of hard labor without a trial. He was then sent to the Ziyang Dayan labor camp in mid-January 2000. 

In order to safeguard the principles of Falun Dafa, while being detained, Wang Xuezhi went on a hunger strike for over 150 days. He was telling the government the truth of Falun Gong with his own life, but the government refused to listen. What is even more outrageous is that as hinted by some police in the labor camp, over 200 convicted inmates once surrounded Wang Xuezhi and beat him for an entire day. When he was on a hunger strike, he was even force-fed with urine and feces. Due to the adverse effects of such long-term and inhumane torture, Wang Xuezhi became extremely weak. In order to shirk the responsibility for their crimes, the labor camp released Wang Xuezhi to "seek medical treatment outside of police custody." Soon after, on the evening of August 5, 2000, Wang Xuezhi passed away. 

At work, to his boss and co-workers’ mind, Wang Xuezhi was a great person of few words and an excellent worker. At home, he was the only child of his family. 
 

43.    Liu Yufeng, male, 64, Wendeng City, Shandong Province

[Shandong Province] Falun Dafa practitioner Liu Yufeng was beaten to death by police, Wendeng City, Shandong Province

Liu Yufeng, male, 64, Han nationality, retired worker, party member, a villager from the Xiaozetou Village of Songcun Town, Wendeng City, Shandong Province.

Liu Yufeng was an honest and upright man. He was openhearted and publicly recognized as a good person. After practicing Falun Dafa, his diseased body regained health.

On the morning of July 18, 2000, Liu was arrested and detained in the Wendeng Detention Center because he took part in the group practice at Huilong Mountain. On July 19, the detention center called Liu's daughter telling her to bring 200-300 Yuan for her father's medical treatment. On July 22, the Wendeng Detention Center called his daughter again, and told her to take Liu home. When Liu was carried out by his son-in-law, he could neither move nor speak. He was in a coma. Around 10:00 am of July 22, Liu was taken home; at 7:00 am on July 23, he died.

Autopsy by legal medical experts showed that, extravagated blood was discovered in his right eye-rim. There were cuts and bruises on his face, and black and blue marks left by electric shocks on his throat, chest, and legs. The skin had begun to separate from the body, and the soft tissue below the skin was damaged. It was discovered that the second, third, and forth ribs on both the right and left sides were fractured. The upper one-third of the sternum was broken. His whole body was covered with bruises and injuries; it was too horrible to look at! This once high-spirited elderly gentleman unclearly died from torture.

42.     Li Baoshui, male, 39, Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province

Li Baoshui was a human resources manager at the Bureau of Labor in the City of Daqing, Heilongjiang Province, a party member, and a model worker for many years. Whether at home, in society, or among friends, he was known as a good person.

Li Baoshui learned Falun Dafa in 1994 at the Guangzhou Falun Dafa Seminars taught by Mr. Li Hongzhi. He naturally became the one of the contact persons of Falun Dafa practice in Daqing City. He was a deeply trusted director of Falun Dafa assistance center.

Without a warrant or any other documents and under no lawful procedures, Li Baoshui was arrested and held in the Daqing Detention Center on July 22, 1999. He was separated for so called "formal investigation".

On the morning of July 26, 1999, the authorities said that Li Baoshui had asked his family to bring some water. Li Baoshui’s wife saw that her husband had become thin and pallid from the mistreatment, and he could hardly open his eyes. But before Li Baoshui’s wife could calm down after she went home, the police nervously called and told her to quickly come back. By then, young 39-year-old Li Baoshui was already dead on the cold cement floor in the police station.

Mr. Li Baoshui had left us for over a year now. His family could not find anywhere to inquire about his death. No one will see or answer them.

41.     Shao Shisheng, male, 56, Zhuanghe City, Liaoning Province

Shao Shisheng was a Falun Dafa practitioner in Zhuanghe City of Liaoning Province. He was beaten to death in late July of this year.

40.     Name unknown, male, middle-age, Pingtan County, Fujian Province

This elementary school teacher in Pingtan County of Fujian Province went to Beijing twice to appeal for Falun Dafa. He was arrested both times. After being taken back home, he lost his job as a teacher. The county police detained him, and the court secretly sentenced him to four years of imprisonment. He did not agree with this sentence, and began to hunger strike. He was then sent to the Fuzhou City Hospital for forced infusion, but he refused. He was finally tortured to death in July of this year.       

39.    Liu Fengchun, female, 56, Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province

 On July 28, 2000, a Falun Dafa practitioner died at the Third Detention Center of Nanchang City. Her name was Liu Fengchun, and she was 56 years old. When some of her friends went to figure out how she died, they met with terror and threats, and were detained for seven hours. People would like to ask the authorities, "What have they done wrong? Is it illegal to ask about our friend’s death? Aren’t you intentionally breaking the law?"

No matter how much the police lie, cover up, pressure, or block the news, the truth cannot be concealed. Below is the truth about Liu Fengchun’s 7 days in jail.

At 9:00 PM on July 21, police from the Zigu Street Police Station all of a sudden burst into Liu Fengchun’s home. After ransacking her house, Liu Fengchun was taken away without reason. Before she even knew why she was arrested, she was taken to Nanchang City’s Third Detention Center, and then rushed to the Number Eighteen Prison for Women.

Because she was not able to appeal, Liu Fengchun began a hunger strike the second day. Due to high temperatures at the prison (37-38° C or over 100° F), she was showing signs of great pain after 3 days of not eating or drinking. Her inmates immediately reported her situation to the commissar and a doctor. The two of them stood at a window watching, and when the others in the cell said Liu Fengchun needed an infusion, they began to curse them. They cursed the inmates for a half an hour until their throats were dry and faces were covered with sweat, they then just walked away.

On the three days from July 25 to 27, though Liu Fengchun’s situation was getting worse, out of fright of the commissar, the inmates dared not to bring up her situation.

At 3:00 AM on July 28, Liu Fengchun’s face turned white and her breathing became very shallow. The inmates were so scared they were not concerned with the consequences and yelled, "Get a cadre." After a long time an overweight guard came over. The inmates told him that Liu Fengchun’s situation was serious and she needs immediate help. This guard walked off with impatience and paying no attention.

At 4:00 AM, the inmates banged on the cell door. That guard yelled, "Quit making a racket, she won’t die, wait till it’s light out!"

This attitude angered everyone there. They began to bang even harder on the cell door breaking the silence of the night. Finally three cadres came, they did not enter the cell but stood far away saying that only the commissar can take care of this. Only after the commissar awoke was a call made for emergency help.

At 4:30 AM, an ambulance came. When Liu Fengchun was being taken away, she had already stopped breathing.

Liu Fengchun was a retired teacher at a traffic school. She was a kind-hearted person, and just because she practiced Falun Dafa, she was trampled on in this way. When her friends inquired about her death, they were detained for 7 hours as well. Where’s the justice in this?

If these people had even the slightest bit of goodness in their hearts, Liu Fengchun would not have died. Why would a cadre of the government go so far as to see life as a game and not help those who are dieing?

Our government is not only indifferent to all of this, but they want to cover up the facts. Aren't there enough atrocities like this all over China. We call on the government to sternly punish the evil, release all imprisoned Falun Dafa practitioners, and give Falun Dafa practitioners their just and lawful rights.

38.      Liu Zengqiang, male, 22, Shouguang City, Shandong Province

Liu Zengqiang was born on July 8, 1978, in East Zhanguan Village, Liulu Town, Shouguang City. He was a freshman in the Chinese Literature Department of Weifang Teacher Training College in Weifang City. On the afternoon of July 14 (during summer break), he went to Beijing to disclose the truth of Falun Gong. He was arrested by police near the Beijing Summer Palace, and sent to the Weifang Representative Agency in Beijing. He was beaten until his face, neck, and head were raw and bleeding; he had difficulty walking.

On July 18, he was escorted to his college’s security department, where he was unlawfully detained. His college then demanded that his family pay the school 500 Yuan to cover the travel expenses of the police who retrieved Liu from Beijing. In addition, the school claimed that if Liu continued to practice Falun Gong, he would be expelled. During this time, the local police constantly harassed Liu to sign a statement refuting Falun Gong. By doing so, he could reduce the severity of his punishment. If he continued to practice, they threatened to detain him for an additional 15 days before sending him to jail to await trial. He went to appeal because of his personal beliefs, but was arrested before he even had a chance to appeal. He was beaten without mercy, and threatened with expulsion. He suffered intense physical and emotional damage. Finally, at 2:00 am on July 22, outside one of his college buildings, Liu Zengqiang, a young, honest person committed suicide to protest the persecution he suffered because of his beliefs.Before his suicide, he bit his fingers, and with his own blood, wrote, "Falun Dafa is good" on his white shirt.

Liu wrote three suicide notes: one addressed to his parents, one to both the president of his college and the head of his department, and one to Master Li. In all three, he detailed the course of his beatings and arrest. School authorities have confiscated these notes.

Since childhood, Liu had always been compassionate and honest. His father, 55 year-old Liu Xinran, is a simple and honest farmer. After his death his entire family went through severe agony and heartache. 

This is the first case of a college student who practiced Falun Gong being forced to commit suicide. The authorities of Weifang City and Weifang College bear an inescapable responsibility in Liu’s death. 

37.   The mother of Fu Xiaojuan, 56, Gaoan City, Jiangxi Province

On September 14, 1999, Fu Xiaojuan’s mother went to Beijing on vacation. She was arrested while staying at a hotel on Xida Street, and then detained at the Jiangxi Yichun Representative Agency in Beijing. In order to avoid persecution, she attempted to escape out of a sixth story window around three o’clock in the morning on September 16. Tragically, she fell to her death.

36.    Yu Xiangmei, female, around 35, Changshou County, Chongqing City, Sichuan Province 

In the beginning of November 1999, Yu Xiangmei went to Beijing to appeal. She was arrested and detained in the Chongqing Representative Agency in Beijing; she waited there to be sent back to Chongqing. To continue her appeal, along with fellow practitioner Xia Wei, she had no choice but to escape by jumping from a sixth story window. Tragically, she died. 

35.     Xia Wei, female, 43, Guanyin Qiao, Jiangbei District, Chongqing City, Sichuan Province

Xia Wei went to Beijing to appeal in September of 1999. She was arrested and detained in the Chongqing Representative Agency in Beijing in early November; she waited there to be sent back to Chongqing. To continue her appeal, she was attempted to escape by jumping from a sixth story window. Tragically, she also died. The Public Security Bureau ordered her husband to not let the news of her death be released. 

34.   Li Guihua, female, 47, Jiangbei Town, Jiangbei District, Chongqing City, Sichuan Province 

In early October 1999, Li Guihua went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. In late October, she was arrested. While waiting to be sent back to Chongqing, she died in the custody of the Chongqing Representative Agency in Beijing. After her husband was called to Beijing to identify her body, it was then cremated. In memory of Li Guihua, her husband had his picture taken in front of Tiananmen Square while holding her ashes. The Public Security Bureau threatened her husband, and ordered him to keep quiet about her death. Therefore, her cause of death is still unknown. 

33.   Gong Baohua, female, 35, Liudian Village, Pinggu County, Beijing 

On June 17, 2000, she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was intercepted by police at the Dongzhimen Bus Station, along with seven other Falun Gong practitioners. After taken back to the local police station, six of them were brutally beaten by police. Among them, Gong suffered the most. Medical examination in the Yukou Clinic afterwards showed that the bridge of her nose was broken. Gong's family members and local villagers requested the police to allow her to go home for recovery. In order to cover up the brutality, the police sent Gong and the other practitioners to the county detention center instead. To defend their rights, Gong and other practitioners went on a hunger strike, which were the only means available. 

Around 8pm of June 25, 2000, the guards force-fed Gong through the nose, despite the fact that her nose was injured. After coming back to the cell, Gong's face looked pale. She said repeatedly that her chest felt numb and she suspected that the guards might have falsely inserted the feeding tube into her trachea during the force-feeding. About 10 minutes later, she suddenly lost consciousness. Her inmates then called the guards, but nobody answered. After a while when Gong regained her consciousness, the guards finally came over and moved Gong out of the cell for emergency treatment. She was sent back on the morning of June 26, 2000. Because her health condition looked very bad, her inmates asked the guards many times to give her a medical examination. She was then called out, and came back in the afternoon. But there was no sign of improvement in her health that night. On the morning of June 27, 2000, the inmates urged the guards to give her another medical checkup, because her health kept deteriorating. Around 10am, the detention center clinicians agreed to send Gong to the hospital. Around 9pm that evening, Gong Baohua was announced dead in the hospital. 

32.   Zhang Yuzhen, female, 46, Hegang City, Heilongjiang Province 

At the beginning of February, the local police detained her in Lulinshan Detention Center of Hegang City, in order to prevent her from going to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. In April, she was transferred to the First Detention Center of Hegang City. Zheng once got on a hunger strike for five days, and she was beaten many times while in custody. She was released at the beginning of May. Because she suffered bad health due to long-term mistreatment in detention centers, she had to stay in bed after she was released. She died on June 20, 2000. 

31.   Sun Shuqin, female, 58, Hegang City, Heilongjiang Province 

In January, she and another practitioner whose surname was Shang went to the Beijing Public Security Ministry to appeal for Falun Gong. On January 24, 2000, she was sent to the Hegang Detention Center. On February 14, 2000, she was transferred to the Yingbei County Jail. She went on a hunger strike for four days in April. She died suddenly in the Yingbei County Jail on April 27, 2000. 

30.   An Xiukun, female, 49, Henghui City, Hebei Province

An was a teacher in the Zhongxin Street Elementary School of Hengshui City. An was removed from her post, and fined 2,800 Yuan for practicing Falun Gong. Because of the unfair treatments against her, An went to the Beijing Public Security Ministry to appeal on May 21, 2000. She was escorted back and detained in the Education Committee Guest House. On May 24, An was given 15 days of administrative detention. An refused to sign the paperwork for her detention, and declared that she would reserve her right to appeal. Afterwards, she was sent to the Lubei Administrative Detention Center. On May 25, the second day of her detention, An was cuffed with a special type of handcuff nicknamed "bull's nose," for refusing to copy the rules of the detention center. To protest the ill treatments against her, An began a hunger strike. On June 6, 2000, An lost consciousness. She was unable to get up, and she suffered incontinence of feces and urine. The detention center gave her an emergency infusion, which had no effect. At 10pm, An was sent to the County Hospital. At 7:30am of June 11, 2000, An left this world. 

29. Wang Peisheng, male, 68, Weifang City, Shandong Province 

Wang was a retired official of Weifang Hardware Store. Wang started to practice Falun Gong in 1995, and was a former contact person of the Falun Gong assistance center in Weifang. He had been under surveillance since July 20, 1999. In March 2000, he was detained for writing to the National People's Congress about Falun Gong issues. While in custody, he was detained in the hot and humid cell 24 hours a day, and sometimes, he was forced to do hard labor. At 2am on July 12, 2000, he left this world. His wife did not receive the notice of his death until 1pm that afternoon. More surprisingly, in order to cover up the truth, the police forced his family to have his body cremated before the cause of his death was identified. 

28. Li Zaiji, male, 44, Chuanying District, Jilin City 

Li was sentenced to one year of forced labor in October of 1999 for appealing for Falun Gong. On July 7, 2000, the police department of Jilin City told Li's family members to go to the hospital to take care of him. When Li's mother got to the hospital, Li was already dead. Li's body was full of wounds, with one eye open and one closed. At 9am on July 14, Li's body was cremated under the close monitoring of more than 200 police officers. 

27. Li Jianbin, male, 23, Shanghai

He was illegally detained for his practice of Falun Gong, and was forced to attend the "transformation class" held in East China University of Science and Technology. On May 13, 2000, when trying to escape from the persecution of the police and to participate in the activities of celebrating "World Falun Dafa Day", he died from falling out of a fifth story window. 

26. Wang Xingtian, male, 44, Dayang Village, Ningjin County, Hebei Province 

He was beaten to death by the county government of Dayang Village on March 25, 2000, for refusing to recant his belief in Falun Gong. 

On February 21, 2000, the Dayang Village government illegally detained Wang Xingtian and 11 other Falun Gong practitioners in the "Law Education Center," in order to prevent them from going to Beijing to appeal. After 33 days of detention, they were transferred to the Beiquanli Village government, where they were not allowed food or water. 

While in custody, each practitioner was demanded to pay a deposit of 1000 Yuan plus a fine of 1000 Yuan. The practitioners were also required to write a pledge to recant. Wang firmly refused to do this. 

On the noon of March 25, Wang's friends came to visit him and suggested he write the pledge and pay the money. But Wang refused to do that. Around 2-3 o'clock that day, the village government ordered some thugs to beat Wang using electric batons, police batons, etc., which left many wounds on Wang's body. A fatal wound was a hole on the back of his head. Only after Wang's family members wrote the pledge for him and paid the money, were they allowed to take Wang home. At that time, Wang already lost his consciousness, and he died at 5pm. 

25. Miu Qun, female, age unknown, Qu County, Dazhou City, Sichuan Province 

Miu went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong this January. She was taken back by local police and detained in the local detention center. While in custody, she went on a hunger strike to defend her right to practice Falun Gong. The police force-fed her through the nose with a plastic tube. During the process of force-feeding, the police inserted the tube into her lung by mistake. She died shortly after. 

24. Su Gang, male, 32, Zibo City of Shangdong Province 

Su was a software engineer of Qilu Petrochemical Company. On May 23, 2000, the security officers in his workplace sent him to the Changle Mental Hospital without notifying his family members. Su was detained in the mental hospital for nine days, and was overdosed with forced injections everyday. Upon learning that Mr. Su was locked in a mental hospital, Su's uncle went on a hunger strike, and as a result, Mr. Su was released on May 31, 2000. When Mr. Su got home, he looked slow, stiff, and extremely weak. He died on the morning of June 10, 2000. 

23. Tian Shiqiang, male, age unknown, Lanjiang Town, Suining City, Sichuan Province 

Tian went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong on June 5, 2000, carrying with him his 2-year-old child. On June 7, his family members got a notice from Beijing that Mr. Tian Shiqiang had died. The police had his body cremated immediately after his death. 

22. Yin Shuyun, female, 46, Changchun City, Jilin Province

During the annual session of National People's Congress, Yin went to Beijing to petition to the government to stop the persecution against Falun Gong. After she was taken back from Beijing, one side of her face was black and blue due to severe beating. She died in the Heizuizi Labor Camp where she was detained. 

21. Yao Baorong, female, 52, Anning District, Lanzhou City, Gansu Province 

Yao was arrested on May 17, 2000, while reading Falun Gong books at home. Yao died on the afternoon of May 19, 2000. The cause of her death was unclear. It was said she died after falling from the fifth floor of a local police station building. Around 2:50am of May 23, the police had Yao's body cremated secretly. To block the news, the police arrested 20 practitioners who knew about Yao's death. 

20. Mei Yulan, female, 44, Chaoyang District, Beijing

On May 13, 2000, Mei was arrested while practicing Falun Gong exercises outside her house. She went on a hunger strike to defend her rights. On May 17, 2000, three days into her hunger strike, she was force-fed by an inmate who had no medical skills at all. Her screaming during the force-feeding suggested that she was in extreme pain. After she returned to the cell, she had a headache, and started to vomit blood that night. The guard whose surname was Sun refused to send her for emergency treatment, and said, "Never mind, she won't die. I will take the responsibility if anything happens."She died on May 23, 2000. Five practitioners who knew about her death were sent to the detention center on May 26. 

19. Wang Xiuying, female, 45, Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province 

On May 13, 2000, Wang was arrested when practicing Falun Gong on Tiananmen Square.She was detained in the Jiaomen Detention Center of Chongwen District.After 3 days of hunger strike, four men pushed her to the ground and brutally force-fed her through the nose.She was force-fed with high-density salt water five times within nine days.On May 22, 2000, she lost consciousness and died at 7pm that day. 

18. Zhou Zhichang, male, 45, Shuangcheng City, Heilongjiang Province 

In September 1999, Zhou went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong.During the eight months in the detention center, he was shackled most of the time.On the morning of May 6, 2000, the ninth day of his hunger strike, he was taken to the Shuangcheng Hospital by the guards.The examination showed him in good health.On the same afternoon when he was again sent to the hospital, his pupils were dilated and he passed away. 

Obviously, Zhou did not die of natural causes. His face indicated extreme pain. His eyes were wide open, so was his mouth. There were many wounds on his body and head. His fingers and toes were black. The skin on his head was red, and separable from the skull. The local communist government forced his family members to sign an agreement that Zhou died of a heart attack, which his family members refused. 

Zhou was a well-known good person and official in the local area. His death shocked many people. 

17. Sun Xiuqing, female, in her 50s, Hegang City, Heilongjiang Province 

Sun was detained in the Luobei Detention Center before the Chinese New Year (February 4, 2000). She died suddenly at the end of April 2000. The police cremated her body immediately without informing her family members. They also attempted to block the news. 

16. Guan Chaosheng, male, age unknown, Qidong City, Hunan Province 

Associated Press reported on April 20, 2000, that Guan went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. He was beaten to death at a detention center in Beijing. The authorities gave his relatives a 10,000-Yuan compensation. 

15. Li Huixi, male, 40, Shouguang County, Weifang City, Shandong Province 

He went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was escorted back to the local police station of Hou Town on April 21, 2000. He was beaten to death on that night. On April 22, 2000, the police informed his family that he was dead and cremated his body in a hurry. The police warned his family members not to disclose the news and gave them 45,000 Yuan. 

14. Li Yanhua, female, 45, Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province 

In October 1999, she was arrested twice for appealing in Beijing for Falun Gong.On January 7, 2000, she was sentenced to two years of forced labor without any legal procedure. 

When she was detained in the Women's Drug Rehabilitation Center in Nanchang City, her hunger strike caused atrophy of her internal organs.On April 13, the detention center was afraid to take responsibility for this, and informed her relatives to bail her out to receive medical treatment.She died within two hours after she was taken home. 

13. Zhang Zhenggang, male, 36, Huaian City, Jiangsu Province 

On March 2, 2000, Zhang was taken into custody in Huaian police station. On March 25, he was brutally beaten, which left fatal injuries to his brain. Later, he was sent to the First Hospital of Huaian City for emergency treatment, and fell into a coma. On March 30, the medical examination showed that Zhang still had weak heartbeats and breaths. Then about 50 police officers appeared, and they imposed a curfew at the hospital. Then a few officers pushed Zhang's family members and other patients around, and took Zhang, who still had heartbeats and breaths, to the crematorium. Zhang's body was cremated without the consent of his family members. 

12.Yang Xueqin, male, 36, Shanghai City

Yang was arrested in July 1999 while appealing for Falun Gong, and was sent to a mental hospital afterwards. At the beginning of this year, he was arrested again for appealing in Beijing. On February 18, 2000, Yang's head was injured after "jumping out" of a building. He died nine days after being sent to a hospital. 

11. Chen Zixiu, female, 59, Weicheng District, Weifang City, Shandong Province

On February 16, 2000, she was thrown into the so-called "Falun Gong Transformation and Detention Center" held by the Chengguan Street Office. The communist officials beat her using plastic sticks and electric batons. Other detained practitioners could hear her painful screams. The communist officials demanded her to recant her belief while beating her madly, but she firmly refused. On the morning of February 20, 2000, Chen, who was half-dead, was forced to crawl barefooted in the snow. Two days of torture left severe injuries in her legs. Chen vomited and fainted. She never regained her consciousness. 

10. Liu Xuguo, male, 29, Zoucheng City, Shandong Province 

In October 1999, Liu, an engineer of the Factory of Fertilizer, went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. As a result, he was detained in the police station of Zoucheng City and was sentenced to three years of forced labor. To defend his rights, he went on a hunger strike. On the sixth day of his hunger strike, he was force-fed through the nose, and the feeding tube caused severe injuries to his respiratory system, which seriously infected his lungs.He died in the hospital on February 11, 2000. 

9. Gao Xianmin, male, 41, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province 

On December 31, 1999, Gao was arrested in the Tianhe Park of Guangzhou City while having a picnic. The police claimed that he lost consciousness on January 7, 2000, during the hunger strike, and died in the hospital. It was suspected that he was suffocated to death when force-fed with high-density salt water. 

8. Liu Zhilan, female, 40, Fangshan District, Beijing 

On January 10, 2000, she was arrested when appealing in Beijing for Falun Gong.The Zhoukoudian police station forced her to do janitorial work everyday. On January 14, after having a meal in the boiler room, she died of gas poisoning. 

7. Zhang Shuqi, female, 52, Xicheng District, Beijing 

On December 26, 1999, Zhang was arrested when attempting to audit the trial of the four contact people of the former Research Society of Falun Gong. On the afternoon of January 14, 2000, the police station suddenly informed her family members to pick her up.After going back home, Zhang fainted, vomited and lost consciousness, and died on January 15. Zhang had been force-fed through the nose during her hunger strike in the detention center. 

6. Zhu Shaolan, female, 50, Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province 

She was detained for participating in signing an appeal letter for Falun Gong. After four days of hunger strike, she was sent to the hospital for emergency treatment on October 5, 1999, and died on October 7, 1999. 

5. Zhao Jinhua, female, 42, Zhangxing Town, Zhaoyuan City, Shandong Province 

On September 29, 1999, Zhao was taken away by the police while working in the field. The police tortured her by beating her with rubber clubs, shocking her with electrical circuits, depriving her of sleep, and so on.On October 7, she was tortured to death. 

4. Dong Buyun, female, 36, Linyi City, Shandong Province 

Dong, a teacher at the Xiyanchi Elementary School in Linyi City, went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong on July 20, 1999, and later she was detained in a room on the second floor of the school building. On September 11, 1999, the police claimed that she died at midnight from jumping out of the building. Her body was cremated in a rush by noon on the next day. 

3. Wang Guoping, male, 40, Shulan City, Jilin Province 

Wang was arrested when appealing in Beijing. The police beat him with various torturing devices, poured cold water on him, and pushed his head into the toilet. The police claimed that he died on October 17, 1999, after jumping out of the eighth floor of the Jilin Liaison Office Building in Beijing. 

2. Zhao Dong, male, 38, Jixi City, Heilongjiang Province 

In September 1999, Zhao went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was arrested. When escorted back, he was beaten and threatened by the police. He jumped out of a moving train with handcuffs on, and died.

1. Chen Ying, female, 18, Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province 

In August 1999, when escorted back after appealing for Falun Gong in Beijing, she was threatened, beaten, and verbally abused by the police. She died after jumping out of a moving train.
