Tuesday, June 26 was the UN International Day in Support of Victims of Torture. Taking the opportunity of this special day, Falun Gong practitioners in the Greater Washington DC area held a press conference at 10 a.m. in front of the Chinese Embassy. The press conference exposed the fact that Jiang Zemin's government does not hesitate to use government power to brutally persecute Falun Gong practitioners. Over forty methods of torture have been used, including piercing through the fingertips with sharp bamboo sticks, burning, force-feeding liquid mixtures containing hot pepper, forcing pregnant women to have abortions, rape, subjecting practitioners to snake or scorpion bites, etc. Up to now, 234 practitioners have been tortured or beaten to death. Dr. James Li, a U.S. Citizen living in Pennsylvania, spoke about the recent death of his brother, Li Baifan, at the hands of the state police during the brainwashing class in China. Another practitioner exposed the brutality of a Chinese policeman who beat and raped a female Falun Gong practitioner publicly in Beijing. Practitioners called upon all people of good conscience to join this urgent appeal to Jiang Zemin's government to stop torturing and killing Falun Gong practitioners. Several Chinese and Western media conducted interviews.
