Denmark's New Government Continues to Pay Attention to the Human Rights of Falun Gong Practitioners in China

January 26, 2002 |

At the end of last November, Denmark's government changed through elections. The following is a letter from the new Foreign Minister, Per Stig Moeller, to Denmark's Dafa practitioners.

January 17, 2002

(Name omitted):

Thank you for your letter on December 13, 2001.

As expressed by the last government, we do have reasons to pay attention to China's human rights; thus, when talking with representatives of the Chinese government, we continuously put forward human rights issues and urge that they be respected. The human rights of Falun Gong practitioners are included in these discussions. In the political dialogue between the European Union and Chinese government, human rights issues are also among the discussion topics.

In the dialogue, the European Union never conceals its own critical views but continuously calls on the Chinese government to improve its human rights. Freedom of speech, complete respect for each person, protecting detainee's rights--including the right to not be tortured-- are the central topics in the dialogue. The Danish government and other European countries wish to continue this critical dialogue.

Sincerely,

PER STIG MOELLER (Signature)
