Mudanjiang Police Cruelly Torture to Extort Confession from Five Falun Gong Practitioners

January 07, 2002 |   By Falun Gong practitioner from Mudanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province

(Clearwisdom.net) Near the Mudanjiang riverbank, on the northeastern border of China, five Falun Gong practitioners have been persecuted for more than 10 months. Policemen Miao Qiang and Xie Chunshen have beaten them so badly that they were injured and some have been permanently crippled. Some practitioners were tortured to the brink of death.

(1) Huang Guodong. At the beginning of February 2001, the Nanshan Police Station of Aimin Police Substation at Mudanjiang City arrested practitioner Huang Guodong. The police used a rope to tie Huang's two thumbs together and hung him up by the rope. Whenever Huang lost consciousness, they used a coin to scratch his ribs, or jabbed him with toothpicks. He was repeatedly tortured. Huang's head was terribly swollen from the beating. The walls of the room where Huang was tortured were spattered with blood. Nails had been banged onto the wall. From the marks it looked like Huang had been nailed to the wall. Whoever has seen the spot could not bear to look at it. Huang has been tortured into a wizened deformed shape. He was not able to speak or sit. He was carried on a litter to the Yangming Court. His wife, also a practitioner, was illegally sentenced to forced labor education. The cadres of his village sold Huang's house to cover so-called fines. There was no one to take care of his son (his son is still a small child).

(2) Zhao Guiling, female. Zhao was arrested in February 2001 by the Nanshan Police Station of Yangming Police Substation. For more than 20 days, policemen Miao Qiang and Xie Chunsheng continuously interrogated her from 6:00 p.m. everyday and sent her back to the detention center at 8:00 a.m. the next day morning. They continuously used various means to torture her for more than ten days, such as "tying the ropes" (translator's note: The police tie up the practitioner with a thin rope, circle the rope around her neck, and tie her hands behind her back. Then the police would use all the force they could muster to tighten the rope. The rope becomes tighter and tighter around the body of the practitioner, and makes it more and more difficult for her to breathe. The pain is so intense that the practitioner sometimes loses control of her bladder. There are instances when the rope was tightened enough to break a practitioner's arm.), pouring mustard oil into her nose, covering her head with something to prevent her from breathing properly. She almost suffocated to death. Zhao Guiling's arms and shoulders remained marked from the rope.

(3) Zhao Jun, male, about 40 years old, has an older sister (Zhao Guiling) and a younger sister. His parents are in their seventies. Since the police started persecuting Zhao, his old father's heart problems have reoccurred and he has been to hospital several times. Now, Zhao's father cannot speak well and is unable to finish his sentences. His parents are greatly distressed for their son.

On February 24, 2001, policemen Miao Qiang and Xie Chunsheng went to Zhao's home. They asked Zhao Jun to come to the door and said that they just wanted to speak with him for a little while. As soon as he came to the door, still wearing his slippers, he was immediately beaten and dragged into a waiting police van and driven to the Nanshan Police Station. That same night, they tortured him with "tying ropes" three times. He lost his consciousness all three times. The police used coins to scratch his ribs and stuck sharp bamboo sticks into his fingers to wake him up. That night, the nerves throughout his central nervous system including the nerve under his right armpit were injured, rendering him unable to raise his right arm. His right arm was totally disabled. His two arms were terribly swollen. The police could not get anything from Zhao so they cooked up another scheme. They arrested Zhao Jun's son, Zhao Dan (who is not a practitioner, but a student in a medical school) from his university. They handcuffed Zhao Dan to a radiator pipe and over dressed him from head to foot. He felt so hot that he could not breathe. They did not give him water or let him use the bathroom.

They would not leave an innocent student alone who does not practice Falun Gong, but used various means to torture him. It is thus clear how brutal and inhuman they are.

The policemen wrote several pages of confession according to their needs and forced Zhao Dan to sign it. They forced Zhao's family to pay 5,500 Yuan (Translator's note: the average monthly income of an urban Chinese worker is about 500 Yuan) before releasing Zhao Dan.

The police also fabricated a confession for Zhao Jun and forced him to sign it. Zhao Jun was sent to the detention center. He had completely and permanently lost the use of his hand, and his arms were terribly swollen. Later, medical staff at the police station diagnosed that the central nerve and the nerve of his right arm were severely damaged (evidenced by the diagnosis certificate).

The police were afraid of being discovered. They were guilty of beating Zhao and other practitioners into disability, they made false accusations against Zhao and the other four practitioners. They intended to have the five practitioners sentenced to prison so that their own criminal acts would not be made public.

On December 12, 2001, the Yangming Law Court tried Zhao Jun and the other four practitioners. Practitioners in Mudanjiang City sent forth their righteous thoughts together. Practitioners hung Dafa banners on trees, railings along the roadsides, pillars of the great hall, windows, walls and chairs. Feeling scared, the police station dispatched many police officers to the courthouse. The courtroom was not big enough to hold all the people, and practitioners sent forth their righteous thoughts outside the hall. The court session was originally scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m., but it did not get started until 10:30a.m.

After the session started, Huang Guodong was carried into the hall. He was neither able to speak nor sit. His feet were cuffed with shackles.

The judge asked practitioner Zhao Guiling on the spot: "Zhao Guiling, you claimed that policemen beat you, do you have any evidence?" Zhao said: "The scars from the wounds remain." The judge asked the female bailiff to check it immediately. After checking, the bailiff reported that there were scars from the wounds. The scars were still there after 10 months. What kind of brutal torture could it have been originally!

Out of the five practitioners, only Zhao Jun and Zhao Guiling have been able to find attorneys just 3 days before the trial. Each attorney has a strong sense of justice. They defended the practitioners sternly and forcefully for the cause of justice. The attorney requested a legal medical expert to examine Zhao Jun's disabled arm right at the court. The attorneys also said that all the accusations against the practitioners were untenable. The attorney also said that in today's society, such severe persecution has not been heard of. The judge and the attorneys all condemned the brutality of the police. At 3:00 p.m., the trial could not go on further. The police were defeated and totally lost face. The trial was terminated. In fact, the trial turned out to be the trial of the police.

According to the latest news, the province has already secretly sentenced Zhao Jun and other four practitioners. Moreover, the practitioners are not allowed to appeal. It is not only contemptible but also illegal that the persecuted party is not allowed to speak, or to appeal. Even their attorneys and the judges who handle cases in conformity with legal provisions, are not allowed to speak for the justice.

We call on all the kind-hearted people with sense of justice in the world to express support and pay attention to this matter.
