The Last Line of Defense--An Overseas Dafa Practitioner's Insights Regarding the Article 23 Legislation in Hong Kong

December 30, 2002 |   By Chen, Gang

(Clearwisdom.net) My name is Gang Chen, and I'm a student in the Munich College of Technology, Germany. I personally witnessed the liberation army shooting students when the movement for democracy was crushed on June 4, 1989. I witnessed many students and citizens being beaten, many to death. I saw chunks of bodies attached to the pavement after being squashed into mutilated flesh by tanks in St.Zhang-an, Beijing. After that, because I refused to express my support for the government's shooting of those innocent students, I was forced out of school for a year.

Now, China's persecution of righteous people has been extended to Germany. Because of my belief in "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance," the Chinese Consulate has refused to renew my passport. Without a valid passport, Germany cannot give me a formal residence permit for a long time. I only have a two-month valid certificate for applying for a visa, which will expire at the end of January next year. This has created great problems for my studies and work in Germany.

Take a look at China today. People do not even have the right to enjoy good health. My mother, Hui-qin Pan, is retired. After practicing Falun Gong, she became more and more healthy, got rid of the torment of her diseases, and began to live a new life. On July 20, 1999, Jiang began his persecution, forcing people to sign statements denouncing Falun Gong. Because my mother had benefited physically and spiritually through Dafa, she refused to sign for the sake of her conscience. Therefore, she became one of the main targets of the Public Security Bureau. Before long, they wanted to arrest her, and in the end, she was forced to become homeless to avoid further persecution. This was more than one year ago [October 2001]. The 610 Office of The First Steel Company in Beijing also suspended her retirement pay. The vicious policemen have relentlessly pursued my mother; they spare no efforts to persecute her-- even sending people from Beijing to our old home in Hebei Province several times. They also harassed our relatives and friends, forcing and threatening them to reveal her whereabouts.

We are just an ordinary Chinese family, but we have already been bitterly persecuted by the despotic power of the dictatorship. Now the evil power is going to be extended to six million innocent fellow countrymen in Hong Kong. The Jiang regime wants to make the six million Hong Kong people, who originally had a life of freedom, also live under its terrible shadow through the so-called Article 23 legislation. It wants to export the tragedy it caused my family to the land of Hong Kong. Essentially, this a challenge of the barbarian to the civilized. Because of our insensitivity, we cannot get rid of the shadow of dictatorship, which is so domineering that we have no way to retreat. Hong Kong has become our last line of defense. The future of Hong Kong will become the testimony to the existence of righteousness! Now, it's time for us to say "No!" to those evil people!
