[Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province] Several Falun Dafa Practitioners Illegally Arrested

On April 9 at 9:00 p.m., Falun Dafa practitioner Guo Fenghai's grocery store was just about to close up for the day. A group of four policemen, including Officer Xu from Dongfeng District Police Department, Zhuang Shulong and Officer Yang and another officer from Jianan Police Station, drove to Guo's home in two police vehicles. In the meantime, Guo was reading at his home. The police searched his home without any legal documents. They found some Dafa materials. Using this as an excuse, the officers signed a warrant on the spot to take Guo away with them. Guo Fenghai resolutely refused to follow them with righteous thoughts in mind. His wife was also determined in preventing the police from taking Guo away. The police threatened, "If you continue to stop us from taking him away, we will detain you as well on charges of interfering with official business." Guo's wife immediately replied, "Arrest me as you wish, all you need to take care of is the kid." After a standoff of over one hour, three more policemen arrived. They pushed Guo's wife into a room and carried Guo to the vehicle outside and took him to Jianan Police Station. Currently, Guo is still being illegally detained.

On the eve of April 9, seven or eight policemen from Nanwei Police Station and Dongfeng Criminal Investigation Team forced their way into the 10th building in Sanjiang. They caught hold of Liu Junhua and tied his hands behind his back. The police forcibly took his house keys and ransacked his home. One policeman from the Criminal Investigation Team pressed Liu down to the ground with his knees. He then stepped on Liu's head to prevent him from speaking. When the police wanted to take Liu away, Liu's wife, Luo Hui, found that a recently purchased cellular phone worth over 3,000 Yuan was missing. [The average monthly salary of an urban worker is about 500 Yuan.] The policemen at the scene claimed that they had not taken the cellular phone. Another Falun Dafa practitioner, Huang Bin, who happened to be at Liu's home for a visit, was also taken away. The police took the three of them to Nanwei Police Station, confiscated Liu's key and 2200 Yuan in cash. They were separated, and the interrogation was recorded. All three refused to sign the notes taken from interrogation in defiance of the persecution. Several people beat Liu. Huang Bin was slapped and pinched on the face, and throttled by the chin. Huang's face was swollen due to the beatings he received. Later, the police released Huang Bin and Luo Hui, but Liu was still held in the detention center.

[China] County and Municipal Leaders Bribe Officials in Charge of Tiananmen Square to Report Fewer People Who Have Appealed for Falun Gong

As Jiang's regime escalates the suppression of Falun Gong practitioners, government officials in counties and cities across the country have been forced to participate in the unlawful persecution. In the autonomous region of Inner Mongolia, if there are four Falun Gong practitioners who have gone to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong within a year (either at the appeals office or at Tiananmen Square), the county Party secretary has to show up in the provincial Party committee to make self-criticisms. If the number were greater, the county Party secretary would be removed from his post.

Many local government officials are losing sleep over this policy. They have tried everything to hold onto their positions, and still some have been disciplined. These officials found that some officials were able to maintain their positions not because that there were smaller numbers of practitioners in their jurisdiction who have gone to Beijing, instead, these officials bribed the leaders of the Tiananmen Police Station who were in charge of reporting the numbers of Falun Gong practitioners who appealed whenever the so-called "sensitive days" [the dates when more practitioners go to Beijing to appeal] came. As long as the connection has been established, and the number of Falun Gong practitioners who have gone to Beijing would not be reported to higher authorities, and these local officials are safe from punishment. It is common practice to exchange the reduction of numbers with cash. These briberies in turn, comes mainly from the illegal fines imposed upon Falun Gong practitioners by the local government. Some officers in Tiananmen Police Station are not satisfied with the bribery alone. They have often extorted Falun Gong practitioners as well. Before releasing a Falun Gong practitioner, officers in Tiananmen Police Station would force him or her to pay 10,000 Yuan.
