Completely Set Aside Notions of Social Status During Fa-rectification

May 19, 2002 |

(Clearwisdom.net) A practitioner and I had a common idea -- go to churches and clarify the truth there. So, one Sunday, we took some truth-clarifying materials with us and went to a church during their Sunday services. So as not to disturb the worshippers, we sat in the last row. I waited there with only one thought: that after the service was over I would clarify the truth to the pastor and give him the truth-clarifying materials.

As the service concluded, the pastor walked directly toward the door, saying good-by in person to those who were leaving. We waited until everyone had left so as to have chance to talk with him. Next to us stood an unassuming man who handed out leaflets. He came to speak to us, gave us a leaflet with information about an upcoming lecture, and invited us to attend. During our conversation I saw the pastor leaving. I was quite disappointed and jumped to the conclusion it was evil interfering with us. Then I asked myself - why I was so enthusiastic in clarifying the truth to the pastor but did not have much interest in this unassuming man. I discovered a hidden notion in me: considering people with a high-ranking social position as much more important than average citizens. That heart is very impure. Master has said, "Every person you come into contact with in society is someone to clarify the truth to ..." (To All Students at the Nordic Fa Conference Speech).

I decided to thoroughly do away with this notion, and continued the dialogue with this man. At the beginning of our talk he was somewhat skeptical, but he still listened to me. I gave him all the material originally meant for the pastor. He promised to read it carefully, and we promised to attend the lecture.

At the lecture we met this man again, and he mentioned an upcoming international event. When the lecture was over I approached him to ask for the date of the international event. He was very friendly, telling us that he had already read our material, and invited us to this international event. We spoke for a long time. When we parted, he handed me his business card and I discovered that he was an official in a governmental ministry. He promised to pass the [Falun Gong] information on to his colleagues and supervisor, and introduced us to some other government officials present at the lecture. I realized that if we do Falun Dafa work with a pure heart, Master will always guide us and things will go much more smoothly, without interference, because the evil cannot find a loophole.

I thought about how some practitioners like to put emphasis on "important" or "famous" personalities. They seem to lose interest if they have to deal with average people in society. If they encounter difficulties they immediately assume that it is "evil interference." I think this is a matter of perception. Master has said, "Such is the form of our Dafa cultivation practice. We will not rely on any political powers at home or abroad." (Essential for Further Advancement: Cultivation Practice is not politics). How can the process of Fa-rectification depend on a few "important" or "famous" personalities? How can it be correct to put our hope only on politicians or "important" people, thereby ignoring unassuming people? Those are all attachments. It actually conceals a heart of selfishness. If that attachment is not abandoned, one meets with difficulty in clarifying the truth to these so-called "important" people or politicians. This reminds me of the situation of the Premier mentioned in Master's Touring North America to Teach the Fa. Besides, notions of social class do not originate from compassion. As Master regards all his disciples as equally worthy regardless of their social status, we must treat everyone the same when we offer them salvation. That is a manifestation of the compassion of a true Dafa disciple.

Those are only my personal thoughts for the reference of follow practitioners.
