In October 2002, Chicago witnessed the beginning of the first overseas lawsuit against China's head of state, as Falun Gong practitioners brought suit against Jiang Zemin in U.S. Federal Court on various bases including torture and genocide. In January 2003, Plaintiff's attorney disclosed to the media the case's legal origin, jurisdiction and venue. (Photo is Plaintiff's attorney, Terri Marsh.)

The modern day use of the genocide law can be traced back to the charges brought against the Nazis for war crimes committed during World War II. Jiang Zemin and several other Chinese Party officials have been sued on similar charges in recent years in courtrooms in the United States. On January 20th, 2003, the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (WOIPFLG) was founded in the United States, an action similar to that taken by the Jewish people after WWII, when they pressed the Nazis to pay for the crimes they committed. On January 13, the genocide case against Jiang Zemin set the time of the first court hearing on March 12. March is also when Jiang Zemin is scheduled to give up his post as China's president. If he ever goes abroad he would very likely be subpoenaed or arrested, as happened to Chile's former military dictator, Pinochet. This video provides first hand information on the case in detail.
