At Nanmusi Female Labor Camp, all Falun Dafa practitioners are held in the No.7 Brigade. They are first put in solitary confinement and forced to face the wall about 4-5 inches away, standing upright in military fashion at all times under 24 hour surveillance, before they can take a break. Those who come into the cell to check on the practitioners can kick and punch the practitioners at will. In addition to facing the wall, practitioners are put through a program of brainwashing in an attempt to force them to renounce their belief in Falun Dafa. When practitioners refuse to cooperate, the guards bring in "collaborators" [former practitioners who have gone astray due to brainwashing and tortures], who pretend to share their experience and attempt to mislead the practitioners with their deceptive reasoning or what they call "using the Fa [law and principles] to break the Fa." Some practitioners who did not have a good foundation in their understanding of Falun Dafa principles fell into the collaborator's trap, while many others remained steadfast. For those who were steadfast, the persecution against them at the hands of the guards was escalated.

Once a month at the No 7 Brigade, an assembly was held to defame Falun Dafa. In 2002, at one of those assemblies, as soon as Zhang Xiaofang, the Captain of the guards announced that the assembly had started, practitioners Zhu Lin and He Yumei stood up and shouted "Falun Dafa Is Good," and "Falun Dafa is Righteous." The guards were all startled. It took them a while to order collaborators Li Jinwen, Yao Yuan and a few others to push the practitioners onto the ground, gag their mouths, and kick and punch them. The carefully arranged assembly to defame Falun Gong was hastily ended.

In the summer of 2002, practitioners from the No.7 Brigade were forced to "march in military fashion." Practitioners He Yumei (female) and Wu Houyu (female) refused to cooperate. Zhang Xiaofang brought a dozen inmates to push and pull the two of them to chase the inmates who were running in the exercise yard. When a group of inmates got tired, they were replaced with another group. When the two practitioners could not move anymore, they dragged them on the ground until their clothes were torn and their bodies were full of scrapes with blood dripping on the ground.

Many practitioners were shackled to tree trunks. Some had their hands cuffed behind their backs with their hands holding the tree from behind, while others were shackled with their hands held around the tree trunk while facing the tree. The practitioners were kept in this position for several hours or even an entire day. Chilling screams of pain could be heard from far away.

Late October 2002, the abuses at the camp escalated. Dozens of inmates and collaborators were transferred to No. 7 Brigade. Zhang Xiaofang told them "with every practitioner transformed, your terms will be reduced by 20 days. You can use all means to do it because they are anti-revolutionaries." So another round of torture and abuse started. Some practitioners were locked in foul-smelling small cells and forced to face the wall and stand for an extended period of time. Some were forced to stand in the field from 6 a.m. in the morning to 1.am. or 3 a.m. the next morning. Practitioners were not allowed to talk or move. Non-compliance resulted in brutal beatings.

During the night in late November 2002, in the field of No.7 Brigade, one could hear the swearing of inmates, followed by screams of pain from practitioner Ms.Yang Hualian. The captain of the guards pretended that he/she did not hear. This is what they called "Night Training."

On November 25, 2002, after several days of snow in Nanmusi, the guards forced all practitioners to stand in the snow with their pants and sleeves rolled up to freeze them from 6 in the morning till 1 am before they were allowed to go back to rest. A few days later, many practitioners suffered frostbite on their hands and legs and had great difficulty walking.

From February 5, 2003 on, practitioners in Nanmusi were only given one third of their ration of food, and forced to to drink 5 pitchers of water each time. If they could not finish, the inmates would force feed them until the practitioners were soaked all over with cold water. At the same time, they were not allowed to use the toilet while being forced to endure the standing punishment. Many practitioners could not hold their urine and urinated in their pants onto the floor. Then the inmates would strip them and use their clothes to mop the urine and excrement off the floor. They even forced practitioners to pay 20 Yuan to buy mops. A female practitioner who had lost control of her bladder and bowel movements was stripped by the inmates [under the guards explicit orders] and made to stand in the field for the whole morning with the lower part of her body naked.

Headed by Meng Qing, Team Leader of Education Team, Zhang Chaoqun, Zhu Xuequn, Xie Huiying, Li Jinwen, Man Zhangshou, brutally persecute practitioners with the endorsement of Zhang Xiaofang. They force practitioners to sit in lotus position and tie them up for 24 hours. Practitioners are not allowed to talk. The authorities would use the soles of shoes to hit practitioners faces, shove stinking socks into their mouths, and gag their mouths with tape.

Ms. Shui Huilan, whose term had been extended illegally by the guards, was made to copy the "Letter of Repentance" while she was suffering a mental collapse after being tied up and tortured for over 20 hours. When she regained consciousness and realised what she had done, she cried. She said that she did something wrong and that she could not face up to herself or Teacher.
