Jan. 13, 2004

November 13, 2003

(Clearwisdom.net) Since July 20, 1999, according to incomplete statistics, over 400 Falun Gong practitioners in Dazu County have been persecuted to various degrees. Some were sent to forced labor camps trial, some had money extorted from them and their salaries withheld. As a result, their normal work schedule and daily life were severely disrupted. Some practitioners were put under surveillance by the local police department and also monitored at their workplaces for extended periods of time. Other practitioners had to leave home and live in different places to avoid arrest and being targeted for further persecution. These 400 practitioners were targeted for persecution by Jiang's Regime's campaign to eradicate Falun Gong simply because Falun Gong practitioners live their lives according the principle of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance," strive to be good people and refuse to renounce their belief in Falun Dafa. Below is an account of the facts of the persecution suffered by many practitioners in this county:

Mr. Li Jian is in his 40's and is the section chief for the Epidemics Prevention Station for Dazu County. He was sent to a forced labor camp for 1.5 years after he went to Beijing in October 1999, to exercise his constitutional right to peacefully appeal for Falun Dafa. His detention in the labor camp was arbitrarily extended for another nine months, after he was unwilling to renounce his belief. In April 2002, he was seized and put into detention for 30 days then sentenced to forced labor education for two years. Later, with the power of his righteous thoughts, he was successfully able to leave the camp. In May 2003, he was seized by police again and put into detention at Chongqing City's No. 1 Detention Center.

Ms. Zhou Zhongxing is in her 60's and is a retired manager of a school-affiliated company in Dazu County. In October 1999, she was fined 1,000 Yuan [500 Yuan is the average monthly income for an urban worker in China] for exercising her constitutional right to peacefully appeal and traveling to Beijing. Her pension was deducted through improper procedures. Because she firmly refused to write the "guarantee statement,"* and publicly clarified the truth and exposed the persecution against Falun Dafa, she was detained for over 20 days in a brainwashing center in September 2000. In November 2000, she again went to Beijing to appeal, and was put in a forced labor camp for a period of one year. In April 2002, she was again sent to a forced labor camp for an additional two years for clarifying the truth about the persecution of Falun Gong. At present, she is being detained in the Maojia Mountain Women's Labor Camp.

Mr. Chen Qingbing is in his 30's and was a teacher at the Sanqu High School in Dazu County. In July 1999, he was detained without proper legal procedure for two days by persons from the town police station for refusing to write the "guarantee statement*." Wang Zhengdong, a corrupt policeman and others humiliated, threatened and brutally beat him. In May 2000, the practitioner was detained for a month for gathering together and sharing experiences with fellow practitioners and was fined 4,000 Yuan. In July 2000 he was detained for 24 hours by police for refusing to report to the police station. In August 2000, because he refused to write the "guarantee statement," he was summarily transferred from the high school where he had taught to work in a remote country elementary school. In September 2000, he was forced to attend a brainwashing class for over 20 days. In November 2000, he was illegally sentenced to one year in a forced labor camp for going to Beijing to appeal. The authorities confiscated a whole year's salary from his workplace. During the period of his forced labor, as he exposed the facts of the persecution, he was beaten by five cruel policemen headed by Xu Zhongfu, leader of the training team. They even knocked him down on the floor, and furiously stomped on his head with their shoes. Chen Qingbing's face was swollen from the beating causing his vision to become blurry, his legs to become numb and his head felt dizzy. In Section 1 of No.7 Team, he was watched over by a drug addict prisoner. Prisoners were directed to follow him everywhere, even when washing clothes, taking showers, washing his face, brushing his teeth and going to the restroom. He wasn't permitted even to have the basic freedom of speaking. In 2001, he staged a hunger strike to protest the labor camp's practice of torturing practitioners to death, and was beaten by the guards with electric batons. After that the guards had a tube inserted into his stomach and he was violently force-fed, causing him to suffer extreme pain. As a result, he was dazed, weak, delirious and had a fever.

Mr. Wang Xin, approximately 28 years old, was a resident of Shiwan Town, Dazu County. In February 2001, Mr. Wang was seized after walking into a trap set by the police. Police officers from Shima town in Dazu County committed several crimes when they seized Wang Xin and forced him to sit through brainwashing sessions designed to psychologically torture him until he renounced his belief. Because he firmly resisted, he was transferred to detention center for four months. The authorities attempted to extort 5,000 Yuan from his family, but as his family was too poor, they relented and took away only 1,000 Yuan without issuing any receipt. The police even confiscated the 200 Yuan from his pocket, which he had borrowed from other people. Since then, these corrupt police often went to disturb his family in the middle of the night and conduct illegal searches of their home. In April 2003, more than 30 people, including the corrupt policemen and hired men from Shima Town surrounded his family residence, and tried to take him by force to a detention center. Because of the firm resistance of his family and the outrage of their neighbors, the corrupt police' attempt was in vain. Wang Xin was not detained on that evening but he had to leave home to avoid further harassment and persecution by the police.

Mr. Liu Qianhui is over 60 years old and lived in Wangu Town, Dazu County. He is a veteran member of the Party, formerly was enlisted in the army and was a member of the Political Consultation Conference. He had been diagnosed with lung cancer before practicing Falun Gong, and at that time, the doctor gave him only 3 months to live. After he practiced Falun Gong, his lung cancer miraculously disappeared. After July 20, 1999, no matter how viciously the evil persecuted Falun Gong, Liu Qianhui was firm in his belief and was not at all affected. On February 28, 2003, Wangu Town Police Station persons colluded with the county's "610 Office**" and seized Liu Qianhui, taking him to the Wangu Police Station. With his righteous thoughts, he left the police station with dignity in full view of numerous people on duty. The police were so angry that they retaliated against his wife, daughter, son-in-law, nephew and even the childcare teachers. They arrested his nephew and son-in-law and did not release them until they had extorted 5,000 Yuan from them. Since then, Liu Qianhui was forced to leave home to avoid further persecution and harassment.

Ms. Tang Jin is a resident of Longshui Town, Dazu County. In May 2000, she was sent to a forced labor camp for one year because she had gone to Beijing to legally appeal for Falun Dafa. On March 4, 2003, she was reported by some people for clarifying the truth to the public and was picked up by the police and taken to a detention center. Upon arrival, the police tightly handcuffed both of her hands behind her upper back causing her to sustain several deep scars on her hands. In September 2003, she was given a four year prison sentence with out proper legal procedure for upholding her belief in Falun Dafa. Now she is detained in a prison in Chongqing City and is suffering from further persecution. The county's "610 Office" even ordered the local "Dazu Newspaper" to report a fabricated story about her in order to poison the minds of the public and turn them against Falun Gong.

Telephone numbers of the newspaper are: 43722360, 43727142. The editor of the general section of the newspaper is Yin Daoyong; his phone number is 43734071.

Ms. Deng Shangyuan is a teacher in Baoxing Town, Dazu County. In November 2000, she and her husband took their one-year-old child to Beijing to peacefully appeal. The family was seized by police on Tiananmen Square and sent back to their hometown where Ms. Deng Shangyuan was detained for a month. After being released, she was then forced to attend a brainwashing program that lasted for five months. When the brainwashing program was dismissed, the town government colluded with the county government and they threatened her father with losing his job unless she would cooperate with them. The town's Party secretary Shi Lei, town chief Yang Wei, deputy chief Zeng Xianchao participated in the persecution, and would not permit her to work. Since January 2002, Deng was only allowed a living expense of 150 Yuan. Furthermore, in January 2002 the local government and persons from the Political and Judiciary Committee colluded with the police station. They seized Deng Shangyuan again and forced her to attend a brainwashing program for the second time where they used force to attempt to make her renounce her belief. Later, she protested their brutality against her by conducting a hunger strike for four days together with other practitioners, and was able to get released from the brainwashing program.

*The "Guarantee Statement" is a statement to declare that he or she is remorseful for practicing Falun Gong and guarantees not to practice Falun Gong again, not to go to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, and never again associate with any Falun Dafa practitioners.

** The "610 Office" is a bureau specifically created by the Chinese government to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party, as well all other political and judiciary systems.
