Taiwan: Report from the "Oppose Terrorism by Jiang's Regime" Signature Campaign in Neili (Photos)

July 20, 2004 |   By a Falun Gong practitioner in Neili, Taiwan

(Clearwisdom.net) To urge the South Africa government to bravely investigate the shooting incident and severely punish the culprits, and to prevent the persecution against Falun Gong practitioners from going rampant overseas, Falun Gong practitioners in Taiwan have been holding an "Oppose Terrorism" national signature collection campaign. The major theme for this campaign is to stop the Jiang regime's global terrorism, and expose that Jiang's accomplices hired a gunman to kill Falun Gong practitioners in South Africa. Through this campaign, we hope to get more attention and support from just and kind people, and to stop the terrorism by Jiang's regime together. The more condemnation of the violence, the more guardianship there is for kind people and world peace.

Falun Gong practitioners in Neili, Taiwan have been collecting signatures in the small park next to the busy Yuandong Department Store since July 11, 2004. Although there are not many practitioners in this area, everybody tried to rearrange their schedule in order to participate in the signature collection. Practitioners told the passing crowd that, during China's Vice President Zeng Qinghong and Minister of Commerce Bo Xilai's visit to South Africa in June 27 through 29, Australian Falun Gong practitioners drove two cars from Johannesburg International Airport to the Oresidertid Guest House at Pretoria and intended to hold a press conference to expose the crimes of the two officials and to have legal papers served against them for their active role in the persecution against Falun Gong. While driving on the highway, a vehicle overtook them and a gunman fired gunshots at one of the cars. The gunman drove away after shooting and did not try to steal anything. Among five practitioners in the car being shot at, the driver, Mr. David Liang's feet were shot and the heel bones in his right foot were shattered. He was sent to a hospital for emergency treatment. The car was disabled. This case has caused high concern of the South African authorities.

The reason of the incident is the persecution of Falun Gong. Because of the persecution, many high-ranking officials including Jiang himself have been sued overseas for genocide and these lawsuits have brought upon huge pressure on the perpetrators. Therefore, it seems likely that they use this act of terrorism to intimidate practitioners from filing lawsuits against them. We severely condemn this act of terrorism. It is attempted murder. It is the exportation of Jiang's regime's persecution of Falun Gong to overseas.

There were many touching stories during the signature collection. For example, an ice cream vendor who was selling ice cream at the signature location accepted a flyer and read it for a long time. When a practitioner asked him if he wanted to sign, he signed his name immediately.

Another example was when a motorcyclist watched practitioners on the roadside, he asked for a flyer and read it. Then he parked his motorcycle and walked up, taking the initiative to sign his name. There were also foreigners, who passed and did not want to sign anything at the beginning, but as soon as they heard the words "human rights" they came back and signed their names. There were also couples strolling along the street, elementary school students, young adults and family members... as long as they heard what had happened, they all stood on the side of "opposing the persecution," signed their names to uphold justice, for themselves, for their families, for the world, and for thousands and thousands of Falun Gong practitioners suffering brutal persecution for their belief. They signed for the hope of future!
