1. Changlinzi Forced Labor Camp Enslaves Practitioners, Forcing Them To Produce Traffic Control Batons and Toothpicks

(Clearwisdom.net) In the fifth brigade of the Changlinzi Labor Camp in Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province, the Dafa practitioners who have better eyesight are forced to weld together traffic control batons used by traffic police. The batons are exported to South Korea.

Practitioners with worse eyesight are forced to make toothpicks. The labor camp forces them to work 16-17 hours a day. Those who can't work as fast end up having to work day and night. Corn noodles and bread are the only food ever available. Only on April 24, when higher authorities came to inspect the labor camp, were the practitioners given something better to eat. Practitioners receive electric shock torture and beatings all the time.

The police here have totally lost control in persecuting Dafa practitioners. They often start torturing practitioners after mealtime. Some of them even force-feed practitioners with alcohol.

We call for the support of all kindhearted people to ask the labor camps in China to stop this illegal slavery and persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.

2. Samples of Products Made by Falun Gong Practitioners Imprisoned in the Wangcun Labor Camp (Photos)

(Clearwisdom.net, March 13, 2004) The following photos show samples of products that Falun Gong practitioners imprisoned in the Wangcun Labor Camp were forced to produce.

These are half pre-fabricated artificial eyelashes. To make a pair of artificial eyelashes, one needs to use tweezers to pick up more than 300 strands of hair and adhere them on the adhesive tape along the template. One earns 27 cents1 for each pair. Then the product has to go through several procedures including cutting, braising and shape-finalization to finish. A pair of finished false eyelashes costs 35 cents. This work places great strain on the worker's eyes. On average, a person has to make 20 to 30 pairs a day.

It costs 8 cents for a piece of 39-fold-per-side coil and 11 cents for a piece of 52-fold-per-side coil. On average, a person has to produce 20 to 30 pieces a day.

It costs 8 cents for a necklace of this type. On average, one has to produce about 100 pieces a day.

Each bundle contains 12 flowers. It costs 2 Yuan2 for a bundle. On average, a person has to make two dozen per day.

Most of these kinds of handcrafts are exported. We strongly appeal to all countries in the world to boycott the handcrafts produced by prisoners in China's labor camps. This is in direct violation of international laws and norms.

1 Cent in Chinese currency, 100 cents is equal to one Yuan.

2 Yuan: Chinese currency.

3. Xinjiang Tebian Electric Corporation Teams Up with Changji Forced Labor Camp to Make Products with Slave Labor

Exposing Slave Labor in a Company with International Distribution

By a Dafa Practitioner in Xinjiang Autonomous Region, China

(Clearwisdom.net) On March 2002, Xinjiang Tebian Electric Corporation (TBEA) made a formal agreement with the Xinjiang Changji Forced Labor Camp to set up a production unit at the Changji Labor Camp. They agreed to have Falun Gong practitioners and other detainees work for no compensation. Their only goal was to make a big profit for TBEA. The products are machine parts for the manufacture of utensils and other semi-finished products.

View of Xinjiang TBEA Corporation

Xinjiang Changji Labor Camp only focuses on profits. Certain members of the prison staff are so depraved and immoral they were deemed unqualified to work for other judicial systems. Changji Labor Camp has set economic goals for its different sections. Economic benefits are the driving force for the promotion and bonus of the prison's employees.

Each section has to turn over its earnings to retain its position in the Labor Camp. At the same time, all employees want to assure that their economic desires are met. Therefore, to assure that they maintain a high level of earnings, they cruelly persecute the detained Falun Gong practitioners and other detainees. They force the detainees to work continuously. If they resist, they are insulted and beaten.

The supervision method is very simple but harsh. The policemen's minds are driven by greed, thus their depraved thoughts allow them to enslave and torture the detainees. They also have no qualms about extending the time in the labor camp of those they have enslaved.

Another torture method is to keep the detainees hungry. Year-in and year-out, the detainees are fed only soup with some Chinese cabbage. (Note: This kind of food is low in calories and it is not nutritious. It is not enough to keep a person fully fed, but only enough to keep the person from dying.) They only are given a little bit of meat on some major holidays.

During an inspection or visit, the Labor Camp will pretend to serve chicken and beef to fool the visitors. After the inspectors or visitors leave, the food will be taken away. The Labor Camp would also post menus, which show meals with meat as a smokescreen.

Xinjiang Changji Forced Labor Camp
(located about five miles from Xinjiang Wujiaqu City)

The TBEA workshop in No. 6 Brigade is divided into four small groups: cutting board machine group, assembly group, insulation finishing group, and wooden fixtures group.

Many steadfast Falun Gong practitioners are forced to work in the TBEA workshop. They suffer a lot. Among them are Ge Lijun, Nu Erlan, Wang Xiu, Wang Hui, and Wang Hongjun, and others.

This illegal TBEA workplace is poorly set up and thus the detainees are continuously exposed to dust and other pollutants. They produce the parts for the final products, but do not often have the tools or know-how to do it well. Thus the products would not pass quality control in a normal workplace, especially since the raw materials used are scraps and waste materials from TBEA. It is hard to imagine what kind of trouble products assembled under such conditions will bring the buyer. However, TBEA does not care about the suffering of the detainees, the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners, and the inferior quality of the products, they only wish to continue to increase production to receive more and larger orders and make big profits.

Besides Falun Gong practitioners, the staff members also suffer from the enslavement. Most of them are of low education and have no real technical skills. The Labor Camp does not perceive this as a major problem. In this so-called "Ministry Level Civilized Labor Camp," Commissar Zhu Xuefei (former commissar), Director Li Jianjiang (present commissar) and other ordinary policeman "diligently" insult and beat the detainees. A person without elementary education in the labor camp can be trained as a "skilled worker" within a very short time. As the detainees are not skilled with the proper use of the tools, suffer from long-term sleep deprivation and malnutrition, endure mental and physical torture from the policemen and the task leader, many of the detainees injure their fingers and feet. Yet, although they continue to suffer in these appalling conditions, they have no recourse and cannot stop working or they will be physically punished for "escaping from work." The detainees' bodies are in horrible condition. One can see open wounds, scratches and signs of beatings all over their entire bodies.

TBEA announced that it publicly traded and was a well-recognized national level corporation in a good competitive situation. Besides Jiang's regime, including numerous Chinese government agencies, TBEA received favorite recommendations from foreign entities, such as the UK Accreditation Service (UKAS), U.S. Quality and Environmental Professional Safety, the International High Pressure industries, as well as companies from Italy. TBEA products are sold in Canada, Australia, Malaysia, India, Singapore, and twenty more countries and regions throughout the world. Yet no one seems to realize that components in TBEA's products are produced through slave labor in the labor camps.

TBEA is secretly circumventing international trading laws as it is hiding from the international community the fact that components in its products are produced through slave labor. They suppress the fact that they are willing participants in the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners at Changji Labor Camp in Xinjiang. They naturally do not disclose information that clearly shows that they are in violation of human rights and other international trade laws.

We appeal to the international community and all international investigative entities to scrutinize and verify the above facts. This company is violating international laws and covenants. Please, help us stop this exploitation and this violation of human labor laws. Please stop this violation of international laws, revoke international commendations of this company and put an end to this manipulation of international trust. This company does not deserve to be recognized and its products should not be sold in the international market. We appeal to all businesses worldwide to no longer purchase products manufactured by TBEA.

TBEA and China's inhuman labor camps should be condemned for intimidating and forcing detainees to work for huge profits. We condemn TBEA's board chairman, Zhang Xin, who is the congressional representative of Changji. He does not care about people's sufferings. Instead, he is blinded by financial gain and power, conceals his evil deeds, and colludes with Jiang's cohorts to brutally persecute Falun Gong practitioners.

4. Practitioners Forced to Do Slave Labor and Exposed to Environmental Contamination at the Qingpu Female Forced Labor Camp in Shanghai, China

(Clearwisdom.net)

1. Packaging "Chachaxiang Seeds" under Unsanitary Conditions

For some time, the fifth team (a team formed solely to torture Falun Gong practitioners) at the Shanghai Qingpu Female Labor Camp was hired to package "Chachaxiang Seeds" (a food product). Practitioners put stickers on small plastic clamps (free giveaway with a purchase) and enclose one with each seed bag. The clamps were kept in washbasins generally used for washing the face and feet. Everyone was given one basin. This work is very unsanitary! Clamps that fall on the ground and are stepped on are not cleaned before they are put into the seed bags.

Besides Falun Gong practitioners, members of the fifth team include drug abusers, thieves, prostitutes and those who committed fraud. Most of those prisoners suffer from skin diseases. Isn't it obvious that a healthy person, having to live in such an unsanitary environment, would become infected with the same diseases? These rooms serve as bedrooms and working areas. Isn't it true that producing food-related products in such an environment is unsanitary and irresponsible? Wouldn't this be considered an environmental hazard and affect the consumers' health? They also package hairpins, rubber bands for the hair and backpacks that are used as promotional items. Work habits are appalling, as items such as food, clothes, etc. are dumped on the floor of the bedroom/working area for further processing. Even the people there say that they would not buy these products once they gain their freedom.

2. Forced Labor Involving Poisonous and Harmful Substances

Production changes from time to time. At one time the inmates had to package pencils. There were many boxes with pencils piled along the walls in the hallways and the lobby. Even the sunlight coming from the windows was blocked. Practitioners took the boxes into the bedrooms to package the pencils. When opening the boxes, there was an overpowering smell of paint. Isn't it well known that the paint on pencils is poisonous? The bedrooms are relatively small. There are10-20 people in each room. Pencils were piled up in the middle of the room. When moving around, one would inadvertently step on pencils. It was the middle of the summer and the windows were wide open, but the overpowering smell did not dissipate. Daily, these inmates work from 7 am to 9:30 pm, although the labor reform law, which regulates working hours, allows only six hours per day for such work. The pencils were moved to the hallways during the rest hours, but the smell remained. Generally it takes several days to complete each batch. The labor camp had taken on such tasks a number of times, though given the low profit margins, such work has been stopped.

3. High Intensity Labor

Camp authorities enforce production quotas. If the quota is not met, punishment ensues. Punishment includes sleep deprivation or being given only vegetables over a long period of time.

From late 2001 to early 2002, the most important task was to polish electronic components with a plastic material until they were smooth enough to fit into the respective electronic devices. The goal for those who renounced Falun Gong was 3.5 kg per day. The goal for steadfast Falun Gong practitioners was 7 kg. Sometimes practitioners would be forced to work until midnight. They often suffered from back and shoulder pain, as well as blurred vision. Thus, they were able to complete only about half of the assigned work. Their hands were swollen, their index fingers, because of constant use, got much bigger and their shoulder and elbow joints became stiff and painful. Regardless of the labor camp's regulation that stipulated working hours could not be extended beyond 11 pm (this is already unacceptable under labor reform laws), the captain of the fifth team would order Falun Gong practitioners and their monitors to change to a room without surveillance cameras, where they had to keep on working. There was no clock or watch in open view. The captain and a few monitors controlled the time. Sometimes when the captain would find the people still working he would ask everyone to go and sleep. The monitor would tell everyone to stop working. But, immediately after the captain left, the monitor would order them to go back to work. When practitioners protested, the monitor told them that the person in charge of production named Shao was in control of rules about sleeping times and not the captain.

The labor camp tried to increase the workload and prolong work hours to persecute the determined practitioners who refused to be brainwashed. The labor camp's intention was to destroy the practitioners' willpower. A practitioner, Ms. Qian, who was just about to be released, was forced to work daily until midnight. During that time the work was to connect light bulbs. A practitioner had to link eighteen small light bulbs together with metal clamps, which meant connecting two wires for each section. The goal was one and a half bags, or connecting many sets of a total number of 4,800 light bulbs daily. Many people's hands became deformed, finger-nails broken and some suffered from stiff finger joints or tendonitis. The practitioners were not allowed to sleep until the goal was reached. Meanwhile, the captain and monitors accused them of being lazy.

4. Deceiving the Practitioners and Covering up Crimes

Falun Gong practitioners asked the captains why they had to work these long hours and why they did not observe labor laws. The law stipulated that one should not work more than eight hours a day and the labor reform law stipulates a maximum of a 6-hour work day. The captains would come up with excuses and then deny everything. During official visits by higher-level government employees or other visitors, the captains ordered that the work tools and materials be hidden. Everyone had to sit down together and the captains would turn on the television and let the practitioners watch entertainment programs. Even those practitioners who were being punished and had to stand still over a long period of time got to sit down temporarily so no one would question the labor camp.

The aforementioned tells of the persecution Falun Dafa practitioners suffer at the Shanghai Qingpu Female Labor Camp. We hope that such information can be published and such persecution exposed.

******************

[Editor's note: Incidents where Dafa practitioners are being tortured and used as slave labor show the labor camps' intent. As Dafa practitioners, we should not follow such orders and demands from the corrupt labor camp staff. We have to adhere to what Teacher said in his new article "Stop the Evil Acts with Righteous Thoughts." Practitioners should use pure righteous thoughts to stop the persecution. Practitioners should not accept nor cooperate with the persecution.]
