Facts of the Persecution

1. More than ten Falun Dafa practitioners were tortured in Daqing prison in May

After the May 1st Chinese Labor Day Holiday, Daqing Prison carried out another round of torture of all detained Falun Dafa practitioners, with brutal beatings and threats. More than ten practitioners went on hunger strikes to protest. They were tied up with strips of cloth all day, some for more than 24 hours. Three practitioners were locked in small cells (1), and were forced to sit on an iron chair for fifteen days. Practitioners were not allowed to talk face to face, nor were they allowed to sleep or leave the cell to walk around. They were forced to use the toilet inside the cell. The prison authorities focused their attacks on one practitioner, Mr. Cheng Peiming. They grouped more than ten prisoners together, tied Mr. Cheng up, and tormented him with cursing and sleep deprivation. Mr. Cheng had an incision wound from an operation he had received after previous torture necessitated it. The incision was torn open when the prisoners pulled him too hard.

2. Vicious and brutal methods used in Jilin Prison to force Falun Dafa practitioners to give up cultivation

Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Zhang Hongwei is jailed in the Tenth Ward of Jilin Prison. Guards there have tried to force him to give up his belief in Falun Dafa by locking him in a small cell, putting him on a "death bed" or a "stretching bed" (2), forcing him to drink water from the toilet bowl and other brutalities. He was tortured like this for two years. Many Falun Dafa practitioners went on a hunger strike to protest the tortures. Guards from the 6th Ward instructed prisoners to kick and beat practitioners who were on hunger strikes. They put Mr. Cao Hongyan on the stretching bed, causing the tendons in his feet to almost sever. They force-fed some practitioners with large quantities of salt, but refused them water to drink. Prisoner Xi Yanjun (male) put a bottle of boiling water on the abdomen of practitioner Mr. Wang Fengcai who was locked on the dead person's bed, causing a huge blister to form on the skin. Guards in the 9th Ward instructed prisoners to beat Mr. Cao Zhonghua so severely that his two front teeth were knocked out.

Notes

(1) small cell: The detainee is locked up alone in a very small cell. The guards handcuff the practitioners in a fixed position on their back, in which the practitioners can neither move nor lie down. The small cell is very damp with no sunshine. Detainees have to urinate and defecate in the cell. Only half of a regular meal is served to detainees locked in the small cells during the daytime. During the night rats move around in the cells. The stench in the small cells is so bad that it is difficult to breathe.

(2) "stretching bed": The police fix the practitioner's limbs on a specially-made bed on which there are four rings. The practitioner's hands and feet are fixed in the rings. Then the police apply tension to the rings, pulling the practitioner's body away from the bed as the limbs are stretched. If enough force is used, one will pass out in just a few seconds. If one is left in this position for more than ten minutes, all of his muscles and bones in the limbs will be dislocated, and the person will be permanently maimed. Further, the police forbid anyone to care for the maimed practitioners. See illustration on http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2005/2/11/57390.html
