Practitioner Shao Qiang's Mother Calls for His Release After He Became Mentally Unstable from a Police Beating (Photo)

August 28, 2006 |

(Clearwisdom.net) Since July 24, Ms Zhang Huizhu from Longkou District of Yantai City in Shandong Province has been holding a sign outside the Shandong Provincial Prison to protest the police's beating of her son Shao Qiang. She is urging the prison to unconditionally release him.

Shao Qiang is a Falun Dafa practitioner. He went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Dafa after July 20, 1999. He held up a Falun Dafa banner and was subsequently sentenced by the Beijing Judiciary Department to ten years in prison. While Shao was illegally detained in Beijing and Jinan City, he was often brutally beaten by the police, and this caused him to become mentally unstable.

Many passers-by read the sign that Ms. Zhang held and understood the truth. Some provided her with food and drink. Some suggested that she call upon the world's people to pay attention to her son's condition and rescue him as soon as possible.

Mr. Shao was severely beaten by the police in Beijing in December 2000. He fainted and his head started bleeding. While he was illegally detained in the Shandong Provincial Prison, he was once again brutally beaten by the prison group led by policeman Li Wei and the "transformation team" of the Fourth Ward.

At the end of 2002 and early 2003, as Shao Qiang refused to give up Falun Gong, he was detained in the Fourth Ward of the Shandong Provincial Prison and was strictly monitored. While other people in the prison were free to move around after coming back from work during the day, Shao was forced to copy prison regulations until as late as 10 p.m. before he could rest. There were several occasions when Shao was locked into solitary confinement in a tiny room. The police gave him only two buns per day and a bucket to serve as a toilet. He was locked in the room for a month. He was later locked in a cell and monitored by the guards.

Up until 2004, Shao was placed under strict monitoring by the Fourth Ward and no one was allowed to visit him. Several practitioners tried to visit, but were informed that Shao had become mentally unstable and that no one was allowed to see him. Shao Qiang is currently still detained in the Shandong Provincial Prison.
