Ms. Ding Zhenfang Tortured; Prison Authorities Keep Her Family from Seeing Her

October 14, 2008 |

(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Ding Zhenfang was transferred from the Yaojia Detention Center in Dalian City, Liaoning Province, on July 9, 2008, but her family was not informed of her whereabouts. They made phone calls to ask where she is, but the authorities in the detention center replied that they did not know.

Ms. Ding's older and younger sisters took a train to Shenyang Women's Prison on September 24. They discovered that Ms. Ding was detained at the 9th Division. They contacted the head guard. Guards Li and Zhang met with Ms. Ding's sisters and said that she had not cooperated with them and had never registered her family members' names. Therefore, even though Ms. Ding's sisters showed their IDs, they could not prove that they were her family members and were therefore not allowed to see her. The head guards told the sisters to bring their identification documents issued by their local police station, and then they would let them see Ms. Ding.

It was very obvious that they had made up an excuse to keep them from seeing Ms. Ding. Actually, she had been tortured and taken to a hospital, so they did not want her family members to see her.

Ms. Ding's family asked the guards if she had been placed solitary confinement and then admitted to a hospital. The guards replied that she had not been put in solitary confinement. They said that she had developed heart disease, cerebral thrombosis, and high blood pressure, so they took her to the hospital. They asked her family whether she had had any other diseases before. The family replied that she had not had any heart disease or high blood pressure. While she was detained in Masanjia Forced Labor Camp, she had a stroke. After she was released she recovered quickly. The guard immediately changed her attitude and said that, due to Ms. Ding's increasing age, it was possible that she had developed new diseases. She also said that Ms. Ding was very ill and warned her family to expect more consequences.

Ms. Ding's elder sister stated that, since Ms. Ding was very ill, the authorities should send her home. The guard said that she could not be released on parole. Her family's only option was to leave her some money and clothes. However, the guards did not allow them to leave anything because they could not prove they were Ms. Ding's family members.

We call on kindhearted people to show concern about Ms. Ding Zhenfang's situation.
