Belgium: DPA Chinese Spectacular Staged in Antwerp, Audience Offers Rave Reviews (Photos)

(Clearwisdom.net) The Divine Performing Arts Touring Company presented the Chinese Spectacular to a packed house on February 26, 2008, at the Stadsschouwburg Theater in Antwerp, Belgium. This was the company's opening performance in Antwerp, a city well-known as the "Diamond Capital of the World." Traditional eastern culture, diversified programs, splendid costumes, and amazing backdrops dazzled the audience. After the show, the audience offered very favorable comments about the performance.


Gambari, a former jet pilot says," I found the show very professional, I liked the 'Mongolian Bowl Dance.'" He felt that the Chinese Spectacular presented the roots of Chinese traditions.


Els said of the performance, "I found it marvelous, I did not expect that it would be so dynamic and varied. I found it beautiful. I liked the act with the drums, the masculine energy, very smart."


Eduard enjoys Chinese performing arts: "Everything was perfect."

Eduard has been to China and enjoys Chinese performing arts. He said, "I think the show is fantastic. I saw performances in China over a period of three years, but did not find them to be anything special. But I find this show wonderful - the backdrops, the costumes, everything about it ... fantastic."

Reng-Fo said, " I also found the show beautiful. A lot of colors and very beautiful dances, and especially the music makes it very spectacular. I liked the dance, 'Nymphs of the Sea.' The dance and the backdrop were blended appropriately - very impressive!"


Retired couple Herman and Lilian Vermere at the Chinese Spectacular

A retired couple, Herman and Lilian Vermere attended the show, and talked about their impressions afterwards. Mr. Vermere said, "It was a really beautiful show. The costumes were fantastic, and the effects were wonderfully beautiful."

Mrs. Vermere said, "I found the drums very beautiful, and the dance, 'The Lady of the Moon' was very nice."

Mr. Vermere continued, "I found the first act, 'Descent of the Celestial Kings,' where they entered the stage, the most beautiful." His wife continued, "That was very wondrous, because the fog created a special effect."


Hilda Bosman said, "I've never seen anything as beautiful as this. Graceful... colorful, I found it beautiful. I'm very happy I came."

Hilda Bosman, a waitress from Antwerp, said, "I found everything beautiful, especially the dance with the lotus flower ["The Risen Lotus Flower"], and I enjoyed the singers as well. The lyrics, the backdrops and the costumes - I liked everything."


Talking about the Chinese Spectacular, Jeff Vertig, a retired PR worker said, "Good, good, good!"

Jeff Vertig, a retired Public Relations worker said, "I especially enjoyed the acts that are closely related to the Chinese tradition. The first and the last performances ["Victory Drums"], and the dance with bowls on the head [referring to the "Mongolian Bowl Dance"], I found extraordinarily beautiful. About the songs, I found them good as well; it is a different tonal system."

Jettie Wouters, a fashion shop owner, said, "It's high class, super. My favorite performance was the drum piece."

Marleen Aartsen, a health care worker, said: "The tickets were my brother's presents to us. The dances and singing in the show are wonderful. The coloring in the costumes is fantastic. I enjoyed the 'Mongolian Bowl Dance' very much."


Robert, a physiotherapist, said, "The drumming at the end was fantastic! It was really amazing."

Robert, a physiotherapist said, "I liked the show a lot - colorful, and the performers were so dedicated. [The show] was touching and amazing. There was no moment of weakness."


Sophie, a secretary, said, "I liked the show very much."

Sophie, a secretary, said, "I liked the show very much; it was very special for a Belgian. The movements were nice, and the music was very nice."

She continued, "The Erhu was great. I had never heard it before. It has a very large range of sounds, just beautiful. I liked the vocalists also. The lyrics were well translated. And the men danced wonderfully!"

Sophie summed up her impressions of the evening with, "The show was like a fairy tale. I like 'Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance;' I think those are good principles."


Wim: "I'm an anthropology student, so when I can see Chinese culture, it's especially meaningful to me."

Wim, a student in the Department of Anthropology said, "The show was very nice. My father told me that the show has some content related to Falun Gong. I think the Spectacular expressed the message about peace and belief. Practicing one's belief should not be discriminated against."

Wim continued, "The show was very enjoyable, and also had a lot of inner meaning. My favorite part was the 'Mongolian Bowl Dance,' and also the dances, 'Lightness and Grace,' and 'Drummers of the Tang Court.'
