Seeing the Chinese Spectacular for a Second Time

March 14, 2008 |

(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Chong Li-Mien, an oncologist, saw the Chinese Spectacular for the first time in Kaohsiung City on March 5, 2008. On the night of March 7, 2008, he came again to the fourth showing. He indicated that the show had impressed him so deeply the first time that he came again, hoping to study each program more carefully. After the show, Mr. Chong shared his impressions of the show.

The Visuals Are Fresh and New

Mr. Chong said that, this time, he carefully compared each program to the backdrop to identify the connection between whatever the program was interpreting and the backdrop.

He specifically mentioned that in "The Lady of the Moon," the scene where the suns first appeared and were finally shot down by Houyi was vivid, and it had an entirely different effect than a static backdrop would have had. That gave the audience a fresh, new perspective.

He thought the backdrop of the "The Fruits of Goodness" fluctuated quickly and looked lifelike. "At first, the backdrop was relatively static. Afterwards, when all the Buddhas and heavenly maidens showed up, the backdrop suddenly turned bright, and it was as if the audience was brought to a different place. When the Buddhas began to display hand signs, the golden light flared up all of a sudden: that was extremely dynamic."

The Female Dancers Demonstrated Gentleness and Beauty

As for the dance programs, he especially liked "Qing Elegance" and "Snowy Mountain, White Lotus," which were primarily performed by female dancers. He thought that they performed with happy expressions from beginning to end and showed the inner meaning of the dances with their limbs and expressions in a way that wasn't histrionic. Their movements, from their heads and shoulders to their waists, were different from dancers who emphasize the movement of just the four limbs. The dancers in the Spectacular moved from the joints, and moved from head to shoulder, so that the audience could see their gentle and beautiful carriage. He said that the two dances impressed him deeply and he watched them even more attentively.

Perception of Powerful Energy

Regarding the Chinese Spectacular in general, Mr. Chong said, "I came to the first show at the recommendation of my teacher. He said that the show touched him greatly, so I brought my family to watch the show. Afterward, my parents said that it had more depth and inner meaning than any of the other shows they had seen overseas."

He indicated that how the show touched him could not be conveyed in one word. "The artistic concept is different to each person that grasps it." He said that he sensed a powerful energy. "Like compassion or thoughts, it was invisible, but each person needs it and not everyone realizes that."
