(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Fan Ruiming was a Falun Gong practitioner in Wuguanzhai Village, Luannan County, Hebei Province. While in custody in 2000 and 2001 she was subjected to brutal torture at the hands of the Luannan County police officers. She died later, due to illness. While sorting through her personal items, her family found the following note she wrote in 2001:

My name is Fan Ruiming, and I am a Falun Gong practitioner from Wuguanzhai Village, Luannan County, Hebei Province. I went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa on December 16, 2000, and was arrested. The next day I was sent back to Luannan County Police Department. During my interrogation, policeman Li Shusen slapped my face numerous times. A woman recorded the interrogation. Around noon the officials sent me to Luannan County Detention Center.

The next day Li Shusen took me to the Sigezhuang Police Station, where I was led to the police chief's office. As soon as I stepped into the office, several officers kicked me down and stripped me of my coat. Two of them grabbed my arms and held their feet against my back. At the same time, others tied me with a rope that ran from my back to my chest, and through my armpits to my shoulders. They wound the rope around my upper body and kept yanking it. After a few rounds, the rope cut into my flesh, leaving bloody welts on my chest, shoulders and back. I couldn't hold back my tears from pain, but they didn't stop until the rope broke. Then they asked me why I went to Beijing, and who was the leader. I told them no one asked me to go to Beijing. They got a new rope and repeated the same torture. I still had bloody scars on my body three months later upon my release.

The police never gave me a break in their attempts to torture me. They tortured me repeatedly, for example, by holding me down and twisting one of my legs over to the top of the other. They then pushed the top leg down as hard as possible. Another torture was to hit my head, face, back, legs and bottoms of my feet with police batons, resulting in purple and blue bruises. They also took turns slapping me on the face until I spit blood. Around midnight, they handcuffed my arms and tied my legs to a metal cage. At the same time they stripped me of my coat to make me suffer from the freezing weather. Two police officers were on duty to watch me. As soon as I closed my eyes and dozed off they beat me on the head. When other policemen came to work the next morning, they again took turns torturing me. At night they handcuffed me again to the cage, with my legs tied up.

While beating me they told me explicitly, "If we beat you to death, we'll simply dig a hole and bury you there. No one will ever know about it. We have the secret order from Jiang ["If Falun Gong practitioners are beaten to death, it is to be counted as suicide]." [Note: This was an official directive from former President Jiang Zemin.]

Six people were involved in torturing me, among them Political Security Section Chief Jin Shumin of the police department (who had tortured many practitioners before me), Li Shusen, Hua Shuli, a deputy police chief, a tall man in his forties, and a young man in his twenties. They beat me like this until December 30, 2000, when they sent me back to the detention center.

Because I refused to give up my cultivation practice, Li Shusen arrested me at home and drove me to the Xicheng Police Station on May 11, 2001. Six police officers whose names I didn't know beat and kicked me. Jin Shumin shouted, "Hang her up and beat her!" Even before they did that I spit blood due to the brutal beatings. Seeing this, they stopped. They then sent me to the Ningtuo Gun Range where I was held for ten days before being taken back to the detention center.

I was detained for a total of eleven months following those two arrests.
