(Clearwisdom.net) Today's News from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 18 cities or counties in 10 provinces. In this report, 22 practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention and at least 19 practitioners were illegally arrested.
1. [Panjin City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Yao Guilan Died as a Result of Persecution
Panjin City police illegally arrested 56-year-old Ms. Yao Guilan who worked at Gaosheng Oil Extraction Factory in Liaohe Oilfield in Panjin City. The reason they gave for her arrest was that she spoke with people about Falun Gong. They held her at a detention center for 15 days. Panjin City 610 Office agents later took her to the Masanjia Labor Camp in Shenyang City. She did not pass the physical exam and died at home at noon on August 9, 2009.
2. [Hulin City, Heilongjiang Province] Mr. Liang Yifan Died as a Result of Persecution
60-year-old Mr. Liang Yifan worked for the Yingchun Grain Station in Hulin City. The police and grain station officials pressured him after the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began the persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999. Mr. Liang set off for Beijing to appeal at the end of December 2000. The police intercepted him at Harbin Train Station and took him back to Hulin City. Officials at the Hulin City Police Department detained him for approximately three months after charging him with "sabotaging the social order" and have withheld his salary since the date of his arrest. The same group of police officers had previously detained him for 15 days, as of April 22, 2003, under the same false charges.
Officials from the Yingchun Town Police Station, from the Yingchun Town Comprehensive Administration Office, and from Liang Yifan's workplace harassed and intimidated him over the past decade. They also followed and monitored him. They even broke into his home in the middle of the night and ransacked it, leaving Mr. Laing severely stressed and apprehensive. He died on May 11, 2009.
3. [Jiaocheng County, Shanxi Province] Ms. Li Qing and Ms. Cai Ping Persecuted
Someone reported Ms. Li Qing and Ms. Cai Ping to the police at 5:00 p.m. on August 9, 2009 as the two women explained Falun Gong to passersby in Yiwang Township, Jiaocheng County. Liang Zonghui and other officials from the Politics and Security Section at the Jiaocheng County Police Department and Yiwang Police Station arrested them.
4. [Song County, Henan Province] 610 Office Agents Ransacked Ms. Lang Hongying's Home
Officials from the Song County Police Department's Domestic Security Section and from the 610 Office ransacked Ms. Lang Hongying's home in Song County, Luoyang City on August 11, 2009. They confiscated copies of Zhuan Falun and Minghui Weekly, among other things.
5. [Wuchang City, Heilongjiang Province] The Persecution of Mr. Zhang Meng
Mr. Zhang Meng from Xingsheng Township, Wuchang City, was sentenced to seven years in prison. He went home in March 2009 to find out that the local police had canceled his residence registration. Mr. Zhang was told to renounce Falun Gong before he could re-register.

6. [Weihai City, Shandong Province] Police Ransacked Ms. Ma Junhua's Home
Two officers from Chengli Police Station in Weihai City ransacked the home of 74-year-old Ms. Ma Junhua in the evening on August 8, 2009. They confiscated one computer, two inkjet printers, Falun Gong books, four bottles of ink, U drives, copies of the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party, and other Falun Gong materials. Ms. Ma was taken to the police station and interrogated. Her captors demanded 1,000 yuan, but she refused their demands and went home soon after.
7. [Leshan City, Sichuan Province] Police Persecute Mr. Xiao Yongcong
Several plainclothes police officers attacked Mr. Xiao Yongcong near Shuiximen River at 3:00 p.m. in mid-June 2005. They handcuffed him, falsely claimed he was selling government-regulated drugs, and took him to the Zhongxin Police Department in Shuiximen City, eventually sending him to Shizhushan Prison. He was released a month later, as soon as his non-practitioner wife paid the officials a bribe.
8. [Qingdao City, Shandong Province] Laixi City Health Department Officials Plan to Fire Two Practitioners
Recently it was learned that Laixi City Health Department officials in Qingdao City plan to fire two practitioners for their belief. Health department officials went to the Jinan Prison where the Ms. Wu Xiuxin and Mr. Li Guoen are currently held. The officials arrived on August 11, 2009, and coerced the practitioners to sign documents to agree to the dismissal. Both practitioners had worked for Laixi City People's Hospital in Qingdao City.
Ms. Wu Xiuxin is in her 50s. Laixi 610 Office agents arrested her on July 31, 2008, and ransacked her home. She was savagely tortured at the Dashan Detention Center in Qingdao City, to the extent that she could barely stand. Laixi City Court agents sentenced her to three years in prison in March 2009, despite complete lack of evidence. She is now in the Jinan Women's Prison.
Mr. Li Guoen is in his 40s. Laixi 610 Office agents arrested him in October 2006 and sentenced him to four years in prison. He is now in the Jinan Men's Prison.

9. [Qingdao City, Shandong Province] Ms. Zhao Yangling Arrested
Officers from the Hongdao Police Station and plainclothes agents arrested Ms. Zhao Yangling from Xidayang Village on Hongdao Street at 8:30 a.m. It happened on August 10, 2009, as she exposed the crimes of the Communist Party in public. The police climbed over the wall into her home at 10:00 a.m. and ransacked it in her absence and confiscated her Falun Gong books.

10. [Liaoyang City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Wang Yucui and Ms. Huang Guixiang Detained
Officers from the Ximafeng Town Police Station in Liaoyang City arrested Ms. Wang Yucui and Ms. Huang Guixiang in Dengta City on August 8, 2009. The same officers ransacked the two practitioners' homes later that night and took them to the Liaoyang City Detention Center.

11. [Huludao City, Liaoning Province] Additional Information Regarding the Arrests of Mr. Wang Hongting and Mr. Wang Shigui
Xintaimen Township Police Station head Li Wei in Huludao City and four officers broke into private homes at 10:00 a.m. on July 18, 2009. They arrested Mr. Wang Hongting in Xintaimen Township and Mr. Wang Shigui in Baimashi. They later ransacked both homes in the occupants' absence. They entered through the windows and took photo reprints with Mr. Li Hongzhi's image, exercise instruction sheets, and Falun Gong books and articles.
Mr. Wang Shigui's face looked injured face when he returned home. Officers from the Lianshan Police Department's Domestic Security Division and from the Xintaimen Police Station took Mr. Wang Hongting home. His face also looked injured. His captors broke the lock and confiscated two notebooks and other items. Mr. Wang Hongting and Mr. Wang Shigui are currently held at the Huludao City Custody Center.

12. [Chongqing] The Persecution of Ms. Zhang Xiaoyun
Ms. Zhang Xiaoyun is in her 60s. Six officers from the Guanyinyan Police Station and from the Pailou Street Office broke into her home the evening of August 5, 2009, and arrested her.
Ms. Ran Maozhen is 50. Around ten officers from the Baiyan Police Station and from the Taibaiyan Street Office in the Wanzhou District broke into her home the morning of August 8, 2009, and ransacked it. They also arrested her.
Both practitioners were taken to the Zhoujiaba Detention Center in the Wanzhou District.

13. [Shanghai] 70-year-old Ms. Quan Ying Taken to the Qingpu Brainwashing Center
70-year-old Ms. Quan Ying, who lived alone in Room 404, Building 10, No. 937 Alley on Quxi Road, the Luwan District, Shanghai, disappeared in mid June 2009. She eventually went home but was taken to the Qingpu Brainwashing Center in mid July 2009, less than two weeks after her return.
Changning District 610 Office agents recently took practitioner Mr. Xu Hanming from a detention center to the Qingpu Brainwashing Center.

14. [Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province] Ms. Tang Lijuan Taken to the Guangzhou Women's Prison
Ms. Tang Lijuan, who was held at Futian Detention Center in Shenzhen City, was taken to the Guangzhou Women's Prison on July 17, 2009.
15. [Shouguang City, Shandong Province] Ms. Wang Meifeng Held at the Shouguang Detention Center
Ms. Wang Meifeng from Shouguang City was held in Shouguang Detention Center. Her lawyer went to the detention center on August 11, 2009, and requested a meeting with her, but officials denied his request.

16. [Suining City, Sichuan Province] Mr. Duan Shoumu Arrested
Three police officers went to Mr. Duan Shoumu's home in the Guanzikou Neighborhood District in the Hedong District, Renli Town, Suining City, on the morning of August 10, 2009. They tricked his wife into opening the door. Once the door was open, they barged inside and arrested him. They called for back-up, and between 20 and 30 more officers arrived. They took Falun Gong books and materials. It is not known where Mr. Duan is currently held.
17. [Xiaogan City, Hubei Province] Ms. Wang Xinbi's Home Ransacked
Five officers from the Xiaogan City Police Department's Domestic Security Division arrived at Ms. Wang's home the morning of August 11, 2009, in her absence. They summoned a locksmith, who opened the double doors. The police confiscated one notebook computer, two printers, VCDs, PDA(s), MP4 player(s), reprints of photos with Mr. Li Hongzhi's image, and Falun Gong books and materials, among other things.
18. [Hengyang City, Hunan Province] Three Practitioners Arrested
Mr. Zhou Zhangbao, Ms. Zou Qinghua, and Mr. Long Yiping, all Hengyang Railroad Bureau employees, have been held at the Hengyang City Railroad Security Division for close to one month.

20. [Panzhihua City, Sichuan Province] Mr. Liao Jianpu Arrested
Mr. Liao Jianpu from Panzhihua City went to work at a computer company at the Chengdu Division of the Chinese Academy of Sciences on July 20, 2009. Officers from the Tiaosanta Police Station arrested him the next day, along with four other practitioners including Mr. Gu Huaibing. They are now held under criminal detention.
21. [Kaiyuan City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Chen Yukun Arrested
Ms. Chen Yukun lived at Group 6, Kuntun Village, Songshan Township, Kaiyuan City, Tieling. Someone reported her to the police several days ago as she handed out Falun Gong flyers. She is now held in Tieling.
22. [Shenyang City, Liaoning Province] Four Practitioners Arrested
Officers from the Yuhong District Police Department in Shenyang City arrested Ms. Liu Ping, Ms. Zhang Huilan, Ms. Mao Juan, and Mr. He Tao from Shenyang City. The arrests took place on August 10, 2009, near the Zaohua Detention Center in Shenyang City. The police ransacked their homes on August 11 and are holding the practitioners at the Zaohua Detention Center in Shenyang City. [Shenyang City in Mukden is a site dating from the Neolithic era of Chinese civilization from 7,200 years ago.]
23. [Shouguang City, Shandong Province] Ms. Wang Meifeng Held at the Shouguang Detention Center, Money Extorted from Her Son
Ms. Wang Meifeng is in her 50s. Shouguang City police arrested her from her son's home in Hangzhou City at the end of April 2009 and eventually transported her to the Shouguang Detention Center, where she is still being held. They subsequently took her son's private car, computer(s), and other personal belongings and only returned these items after her son paid them a bribe of 20,000 yuan.
Officers from the Shouguang Domestic Security Division ransacked Ms. Wang's home in May 2008 and took computer(s), printer(s), mobile phones, DVDs, and wristwatches she had bought for her son's wedding. They took her non-practitioner husband to the Gucheng Police Station and released him once the family paid the police 20,000 yuan. Furthermore, the police have withheld Wang Meifeng and her husband's salaries up until now.
Ms. Wang left safely. A fellow villager and practitioner, Mr. Zhao Xiushun, was also arrested and was taken to the Zhangqiu Labor Camp, to be held for 18 months.
24. [Yichang City, Hubei Province] Ms. Jiang Guofang Taken to Wuhan City
Wujia District Domestic Security Division 610 Office agents arrested 59-year-old Ms. Jiang Guofang on July 31, 2008, and held her at the Yichang Detention Center. They covertly sentenced her to three years in prison in March 2009. She appealed to an intermediate court, which upheld the original sentence. She was transferred to Wuhan on August 7, 2009.
25. [Yanan City, Shaanxi Province] Ms. Li Shulian Arrested
50-year-old Ms. Li Shulian, employed at the Yanan Nursing School, was arrested on June 24, 2009, when she was distributing Falun Gong flyers in public. The police also monitored her family.
26. [Kunming City, Yunnan Province] Ms. Kou Qiaoyun Sentenced to Prison
Police officer Hu Shenjian and others arrested Ms. Kou Qiaoyun, Ms. Zheng Shengling, and her husband, Chen Xiasheng, on February 13, 2009. The arrests took place as the three practitioners explained Falun Gong to grade school students outside Qingyunwenwu School in Qingyun, Boluo Village. Ms. Zheng and Ms. Kou were taken to the Panlong District No. 1 Detention Center that same day. Mr. Chen was released on medical parole due to high blood pressure. Panlong District Procuratorate officials in Kunming City issued arrest warrants for these practitioners on March 17, 2009. Kunming City Procuratorate officials filed lawsuits against them on June 8, 2009.
Kunming City Intermediate Court officials sentenced Ms. Kou Qiaoyun to three years in prison on July 8, 2009. Her term will be from February 13, 2009 to February 12, 2012. She is currently held at the Panlong District No. 1 Detention Center.
Ms. Zheng Shengling was sentenced to two years in prison with three years' reprieve; Mr. Chen Xiasheng was sentenced to two years in prison with three years' reprieve.
27. [Zhengding County, Hebei Province] Mr. Liu Shulin Arrested
Officers from the Zhengding County Domestic Security Division and from the Xipingle Police Station arrested Mr. Liu Shulin. He lived in Donganfeng Village, West Pingle Town, Zhengding Town. The arrest happened at 5:00 p.m. on August 6, 2009. The practitioners were transferred to the Zhengding County Detention Center on August 7, 2009.

Ms. Quan Ying from the Luwan District, Shanghai, disappeared in June 2009 and returned home in mid July 2009. She was arrested again in early August 2009 and taken to the Qingpu Brainwashing Center.
