(Clearwisdom.net) Today's News from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 19 cities or counties in 13 provinces. In this report, 16 practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention and at least 22 practitioners were illegally arrested.
1. [Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Ms. Tan Shuqin Sentenced to Four Years in Prison
Ms. Tan Shuqin, who lives in Jiang'an District, Wuhan City, was taken into police custody while distributing truth clarification brochures on January 8, 2009. On June 12, the Jiang'an District Court sentenced her to four years in prison.
2. [Tangshan City, Hebei Province] Ms. Zhang Xiuzhi Beaten in Luan County Detention Center
Ms. Zhang Xiuzhi, from Tangshan City, has been held at the Luan County Detention Center. Detention center guards beat her. There were bruises on her arms. Her face had marks left from the guards slapping her.

3. [Jing County, Hebei Province] Mr. Sun Yunqing Taken into Custody
At around 1:00 p.m. on August 18, 2009, Li Guisheng, head of the Jing County Domestic Security Division, took Mr. Sun Yunqing into custody at his home. The police also confiscated two Falun Dafa books. Mr. Sun is a teacher at the Jing County No. 1 High School. After being held at the Jing County Police Department for a few hours, he was transferred to Hengshui County for detention.
4. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Wang Liuli, a Professor at Dalian University, Taken to Forced Labor Camp
On July 6, 2009, Ms. Wang Xiuli, a professor at Dalian University, was arrested. On July 7, she was taken to the Yaojia Detention Center. On August 14, she was taken to the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp in Shenyang City. Her 7-year-old child has been left unattended at home.
5. [Jinan City, Shandong Province] Latest Development of Practitioners Taken into Custody During Group Study
Eight practitioners were taken into custody. Of the eight practitioners, Mr. Li Guoqing, Mr. Wang Qingru, Ms. Feng Qingdong, and a practitioner with the surname Xin (gender unknown) were taken to the Liuchangshan Brainwashing Center. Mr. Zhang Chunchao, Ms. Liu Yuzhen and Ms. Dong Aiyun were held at a detention center.
It has been reported that Mr. Wang Qingru, Ms. Liu Yuzhen, and practitioner Xin have been sentenced to 18 months, 15 months and 21 months of forced labor respectively. Mr. Wang and practitioner Xin were taken home after they failed to pass a physical examination at the labor camp due to high blood pressure and other factors. The two practitioners live under the surveillance of the local police department and stations.
6. [Henan Province] Mr. Zhao Xueshun Taken into Custody
Mr. Zhao Xueshun, a Korean minority, around 66 years old, lives in the Xinyuan Apartments in Henan Province. At around 10:00 a.m. on August 18, 2009, he and his wife were taken into custody at home. The police confiscated a computer and a printer among other personal belongings.
7. [Cangzhou City, Hebei Province] Ms. Liu Fengling and Ms. Liu Guiying Taken into Custody by Patrolling Officers
At around 7:00 p.m. on August 18, 2009, Ms. Liu Fengling and Ms. Liu Guiying were taken into custody by patrolling officers while telling others about the persecution. At around 9:00 p.m., half a dozen officers arrived in two police vehicles at Ms. Liu Fengling's home. They confiscated brochures and personal belongings worth over 4,000 yuan.
8. [Weifang City, Shandong Province] Ms. Tan Xuzhen Taken into Custody
Ms. Tan Xuzhen, 57, lives in the Weiwan Residential Community in Kuiwen District, Weifang City. On August 5, 2009, she and her mother Ms. Du Zailan were spotted by plainclothes police while giving out truth clarification brochures. The two practitioners were taken to the Kuiwen Police Department. At around 1:00 a.m., Ms. Du, who is 84 years old, was released. Ms. Tan has been taken to the Weifang Detention Center.
9. [Linghai City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Wei Xiuying Loses Hearing in Both Ears
Ms. Wei Xiuying lives in Jincheng Town, Linghai City. On August 14, 2009, she was sentenced to seven years in prison by the Linghai City Court.
Ms. Wei has to live on oxygen support and cannot take care of herself. She has lost hearing in both ears as a result of severe abuse.
10. [Lingyuan City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Chen Fengjuan Forced to Leave Town; Ms. Liu Cuihuan Not Allowed to Work
Three domestic security officers and a local police officer from the Lingbei Police Station, led by Chen Zhi, deputy head of the Lingyuan City Domestic Security Division, broke into Ms. Chen Fengjuan's home. The police confiscated Falun Dafa books and a computer. Ms. Chen has been forced to leave town with nowhere to live.
Ms. Liu Cuihuan has returned. However, officials of the Oxygen Factory of Lingyuan Steel Company have prevented her from going back to work. She is waiting for re-employment at Lingyuan Steel Company.
11. [Tianyang County, Guangxi Autonomous Region] Ms. Zhang Fengrong Taken into Police Custody
Ms. Zhang Fengrong lives Tianyang County, Guangxi Autonomous Region. On the morning of July 28, 2009, the police took her into custody in Tianzhou Town, Tianyang County. Ms. Zhang is being held at the Tiandong County Detention Center.
12. [Chaoyang County, Liaoning Province] Additional Information on Ms. Zhang Xiaoyan and Ms. Yu Haiyun Being Taken into Police Custody
Ms. Zhang Xiaoyan and Ms. Yu Haiyun live in Liaocheng Township, Chaoyang County. At around 2:00 a.m. on July 21, Yu Zhengyun and other officers from the Liucheng Township Police Station took the two practitioners into custody at their homes. Ms. Yu was taken to the Chaoyang City Detention Center. The police demanded 1,000 yuan from her family and promised to release her in seven days. Ms. Yu was not released until the fifteenth day.
Ms. Zhang was taken to the Chaoyang County Detention Center and held there for 22 days. On August 12, she was transferred to the Chaoyang City Detention Center. At 8:00 a.m. on August 19, her mother, who is over 70 years old, went to the county police department and the Chaoyang City Detention Center to ask about her. She was told that by 8:00 a.m. Ms. Zhang had been taken to the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp by officers from the county police department.
13. [Jieyang City, Guangdong Province] Ms. Wu Yueyin and Ms. Chen Wenzhu Taken into Custody
On the evening of August 17, 2009, Ms. Wu Yueyin and Ms. Chen Wenzhu were turned in to the police while telling others about the persecution on Yanjiang Road in Dongshan District, Jieyang City. Officers from the Dongsheng Police Station in Dongshan District took them into custody. Their homes were searched the same night. The two practitioners are being held at the Dongshan District Detention Center.

14. [Jilin City, Jilin Province] Ms. Xu Min and Ms. Wang Yanjie Taken into Custody
On the morning of August 18, 2009, Ms. Xu Min and Ms. Wang Yanjie were taken into custody by officers from the Dachangtun Police Station in Fengman District, Jilin City. Their homes were also searched by the police.
15. [Anguo City, Hebei Province] Ms. Li Xiaoying Taken to Forced Labor Camp
On the afternoon of August 17, Ms. Li Xiaoying, from Anguo City, was taken to the Shijiazhuang Women's Forced Labor Camp. She had been secretly transferred to the Li County Detention Center and held there for three days before being taken to the labor camp.
16. [Dangshan County] Ms. Ali Taken into Police Custody
Ms. Ali works at Bulaoshen Chicken Store. At around 2:00 p.m. on August 18, 2009, the police took her into custody while she was at work in the store. There are still police officers staked out at the store for surveillance.
At the same time, the police failed to catch Ms. Zhang Liying. They are staked out both outside and within her home.
17. [Guanghan City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Yang Yonghui Harassed in Her Home in Sanshui Town
At 4:30 p.m. on August 13, 2009, Qing Sanjiang, an officer from the Sanshui Town Police Station in Guanghan City; Chen Yiwei, a member of the 610 Office; and three other people broke into Ms. Yang Yonghui's home while she was reading. The officers tried to grab her book and take a picture of her. Ms. Yang refused to cooperate. The officers were not able to take pictures.
18. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Ms. Li Guiying and Her 14-Year-Old Son Taken into Custody
At around 2:00 a.m. on August 17, 2009, Ms. Li Guiying's 14-year-old son Zhang Pengyuan, who is not a practitioner, went to a cooked food store to buy snacks. Four officers from the Sijian Police Station in Luyuan District, Changchun City took him into custody. At around 2:00 p.m. the following day, the officers intercepted Ms. Li, who was returning home, outside her home. The police then forced their way into her home. They confiscated Falun Dafa books and other personal belongings.

19. [Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Ms. Li Juhua Taken into Custody
At around 9:00 a.m. on August 19, 2009, a dozen plainclothes police officers from the Huangpi District 610 Office and the Domestic Security Division broke into Ms. Li Juhua's home. They took her and her son into custody. Her family brought her son home later that day. Ms. Li's whereabouts remain unknown.

20. [Yanji City, Jilin Province] Mr. Zhao Xueshun Taken into Custody
At around 9:00 a.m. on August 18, 2009, domestic security officers in Yanji City broke into Mr. Zhao Xueshun's home. They confiscated a computer, a printer, a fax machine, and Falun Dafa books and materials. They took 68-year-old Mr. Zhao into custody.

21. [Fujian Province] Ms. Lin Meifang Held at Hefei No. 1 Detention Center in Anhui Province
Around July 26, 2009, Ms. Lin Meifang was taken into custody for telling passengers on the train about the persecution. According to insiders, Ms. Lin is being held at the Hefei City No. 1 Detention Center in Anhui Province. Police officers from Hefei City searched her children's homes in Fuzhou City, Fujian Province. The police confiscated portraits of the founder of Falun Gong, Falun Dafa books, and brochures.
22. [Shulan City, Jilin Province] Mr. Wang Zhenshu's Home Searched
At around 9:00 a.m. on August 18, 2009, four or five officers from the Tiedong Police Station in Shulan City broke into Mr. Wang Zhenshu's home. They confiscated two color inkjet printers, a computer, and a paper-cutter. Mr. Wang is being held in the Nanshan area in Shulan City.
23. [Shulan City, Jilin Province] Ms. Wang Shufang Taken to Forced Labor Camp
On July 20, 2009, Ms. Wang Shufang, who lives in Tiande Township in Shulan City, was taken by Wang Shicheng and other officers to the Tiande Police Station. Wang Shicheng viciously beat her until she passed out. The police then asked her husband for cash to cover medical expenses. Her husband refused to pay the police. The police took Ms. Wang to the Nanshan Detention Center in Shulan City. It took a long time before Ms. Wang regained consciousness. The police were afraid of being held responsible. They released her seven days later. Wang Shicheng ordered village officials to keep an eye on her every day. When they observed that Ms. Wang had recovered, the police took her to the Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp to serve a one-year forced labor term.

24. [Xiaogan City, Hubei Province] Two Practitioners Released after Being Taken into Custody
At around 10:00 a.m. on August 19, 2009, officers from the Xiaonan District Domestic Security Division in Xiaogan City took Mr. Yan Haishen into custody. The police also searched his home. Mr. Yan returned home the same day.
On the same day, an elderly practitioner in Xiaogan City was taken to the Sanli Police Station by officers from the Xiaonan District Domestic Security Division. The practitioner was soon released.

25. [Wucheng County, Shandong Province] Mr. Han Jiaofei Taken to Forced Labor Camp
Mr. Han Jiafei, 43, lives in the Hanzhuang area in Haowangzhuang Town, Wucheng County. He has been forced to stay away from his home since the persecution started in July 20, 1999.
On July 18, 2009, Mr. Han was arrested in Dezhou City by officers from the Dezhou City Police Department. He was taken to the Dezhou Detention Center. Several days later, officers from the Wucheng County Police Department took him to the Wucheng County Detention Center. On August 12, he was taken to the Zibo Forced Labor Camp in Shandong Province to serve a two-year term.
On July 18, when the officers arrested him, they cleaned out the room he rented. The police confiscated two computers, a printer, a DVD burner, a CD burner, various supplies, and a scoop.
