(Clearwisdom.net) Because they practiced Falun Gong, Ms. Wang Guilan and her daughter Zhang Xiuying from Wuhan City were arrested by the 610 Office, illegally detained and sent to brainwashing centers, where they faced severe mental and physical abuse.
Ms. Wang Guilan is 75 years old and lives on 27th Street, in the Jiangan District in Wuhan City. She is a retired employee of the Jiangan Car Factory. Her daughter Ms. Zhang Xiuying, 59 years old, lives in the Xuzhouxincun Area, Jiangan District in Wuhan City, and is a retired employee of the Wuhan Agricultural Machines Company.
At around 4 p.m. on July 13, 2003, Ms. Zhang was at home when a gang of policemen from the Xincun Police Station stormed in and forcibly took her to the Danshuichi Brainwashing Center in the Jiangan District. At the brainwashing center, each Falun Gong practitioner is forbidden from leaving the room and is monitored by two prison guards. Practitioners are also restricted from seeing each other, even in the washroom. All the walls and boards in the brainwashing center are covered with slogans slandering Falun Gong. Practitioners are forced to watch and listen to communist propaganda defaming the practice of Falun Gong and they are pressured to write the Three Statements. If the practitioners do not give in, they are deprived of sleep and forced to stand for many hours. The prison police sometimes torment practitioners by drawing a circle on the ground with the words "Falun Gong" and Master Li's name written in it, and try to force practitioners to step on Master Li's name.
On the first day that Ms. Zhang was at the brainwashing center, she had diarrhea right after her first meal. It did not stop until she left the brainwashing center. This draws suspicion as to what they put in the food. After leaving the brainwashing center, Ms. Zhang had 300 yuan taken from her. Gao Zhian, Luo Jin and another female officer from the 610 Office, as well as Yu Hanyi from the Community Security Team of the Community Party Council, and many others have all participated in the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.
On March 30, 2005, Ms. Wang and Ms. Zhang were visiting relatives in Muyang County, Jiangsu Province, when they were reported to the authorities because they were clarifying the facts about the persecution of Falun Gong. They were taken away by policemen from the Muyang County 610 Office. These policemen included officers Hong, Wu, Cai and several others
Ms. Wang was taken to the Xiyu Police Station. The police confiscated her money, pension card and other personal belongings without giving her a receipt. She was interrogated and tortured with electric batons, and subjected to sleep deprivation and brutal beatings. Her teeth were damaged and her face was bloodied. Ms. Wang was detained at the police station for fifteen days.
Ms. Zhang was taken to the 610 Office for interrogation. She was brutally beaten, struck with electric batons, and tortured. Two policemen pulled her arms in opposite directions while a third one slapped her face. One of her teeth was broken and fell out. Ms. Zhang was prevented from sleeping, and was not allowed to close her eyes. After ten days of torture, she was detained at the Muyang County Detention Center for another five days.
On April 29, Gao Zhian from the Xincun 610 Office, a policewomen from the Xincun Police Station, people from the Jiangan Car Factory Security Section, and an unknown 610 Office agent brought Ms. Zhang and Ms. Wang back to Wuhan. Ms. Wang was put under house arrest and was constantly monitored, while Ms. Zhang was taken to the Chenjiaji Brainwashing Center.
