2. [Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province] Gross Abuse and Mistreatment at a Forced Labor Camp Mentally Traumatizes Ms. Li Hong

Xindian Women's Forced Labor Camp officials subject Falun Gong practitioners to gross abuse and torture. They incite drug offenders to torture the practitioners, force them to do hard labor, subject them to 24 hours of sleep deprivation, and physically and verbally abuse them. Ms. Li Hong from Taiyuan City suffered a mental breakdown from the torture.

When Ms. Li was incarcerated in the Strictly Controlled Team, No.3 Division political head Liu Zhongmei incited drug offenders to beat her. She was subjected to 24 hours of sleep deprivation and forced to take nerve-damaging drugs. Ms. Li is now in a confused state of mind and appears retarded.

Ms. Shi Guiying from Taiyuan was also subjected to 24-hour sleep deprivation and verbal abuse. The persecutors took turns beating her, and forbade her to take a bath.

In addition, the guards forced practitioners in the Strictly Controlled Team to process and package some products at the end of the year. The practitioners lacked sleep and were forced to work overtime. Ms. Peng Jufen, Ms. Liu Ying, Ms. Li Shumin, and 67-year-old Ms. Sun Xiufang protested the mistreatment by refusing to do the hard labor. The guards threatened them, "For each day you refuse to work, we extend your term by one day!"

3. [Jiansanjiang, Heilongjiang Province] Many Practitioners Arrested

Jiansanjiang Agricultural Reclamation Branch Bureau authorities still hold many practitioners in custody. The practitioners have held persecution protest hunger strikes for several days. Ms. Pan Shurong and Mr. Lu Chuangang from the Qianjin Farm were on a hunger strike for more than ten days and are kept in the Qianjin Farm Hospital. Practitioners who are in the Qixing Detention Center, including Ms. Sun Xianhua, Ms. Zhang Lihua, Mr. Zhang Xizeng, Ms. Han Shujuan, and Ms. Zhang Yanqiu, are also on a hunger strike that has lasted for several days.

Mr. Meng Xianjie from the Qianjin Farm became physically weak due to gross abuse and was carried home on the afternoon of January 24, 2010. Mr. Meng was injected with unknown substances while detained. He is now in very poor health, is weak and limp, and unable to sit, stand or eat. He feels cold and hot, often convulses and loses consciousness.

Mr. Jiang Xinbo was arrested in September 2009 and held in custody at the Jiansanjiang Detention Center. He was tried on January 26, 2010. The court proceedings lasted for only 40 minutes and yielded no results.

4. [Qitaihe City, Heilongjiang Province] Mr. Wei Jinqiang Subjected to Gross Abuse and Mistreatment (Belated Information)

Mr. Wei Jinqiang from Qitaihe City traveled to the provincial capital of Harbin to appeal in 1999. Armed police took him to a stadium. He was only released when he wrote down his home address. After returning home, local police station head Wang Lixin led people to arrive at his home. They confiscated one copy of Introduction to Falun Gong and many other Falun Gong books. Mr. Wei was placed under surveillance and physical restraint in the police station. He was later taken to the detention center affiliated with the Bureau of Mine Affairs at the Mid-Autumn Festival and detained for 15 days.

Mr. Wei's employer found him on October 28, 1999 and attempted to force him to give up Falun Gong. Mr. Wei traveled again to Beijing on November 2, 1999 to appeal for the justice for Falun Gong. Tiananmen Police Station officers arrested him as soon as he arrived at Tiananmen Square. He was later taken back to Qitaihe City and within five days sentenced to three years in a forced labor camp. While in the Jiamusi Forced Labor Camp, the guards denied him restroom use. He held a hunger strike and was force-fed with a concentrated saline solution. He was also subjected to other gross abuse and torture: He was forced to watch slanderous videos, placed in solitary confinement, forced to sit on a metal chair, handcuffed to a bed frame, forced to sit on a small narrow bench, forced to do high-intensity manual labor (building a structure that aims to persecute women practitioners housed there), deprived of sleep, physically and verbally abused, and forced to take drugs and stand for a quite long time. The camp officials refused to release him when the three-year term had expired. He was made to pick small beans. After Mr. Wei returned home in November 2002, Xincheng Police Station officer Kou Yanlong and others ransacked his home twice and left it in a big mess.

Mr. Wei went to his employer at the Xinjian Mine to get his job back, but instead of rehiring him they fired him. A kind-hearted person helped him find a job at the Jixiang Company in May 2003 but he lost this job in early 2004, because someone reported him to police when he spoke with people about Falun Gong.

Mr. Wei found another job in May 2004. The employer was afraid of being implicated and forbade him to speak with his co-workers about Falun Gong.
