Ms. Duan Linxin Arrested

Ms. Duan Linxin is in her fifties. She is retired from the Supply and Marketing Cooperative of Malanzhuang, Qianan City. At around 2:00 p.m. on March 1, 2010, police officer Pu Yonglai and four other people broke into Ms. Duan's home, which they searched without showing any legal documents. The police ordered Ms. Duan to go with them and forced her into a police car. The reason they gave her was: "The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is holding its 'two conferences' [i.e. the National People's Congress (NPC) and the Political Consultative Conference]."

Back on July 22, 1999, Ms. Duan went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. She was detained in Malanzhuang Police Station for over ten days. Her workplace later detained her for some time, and her employer subsequently stopped paying her and would not allow her to work.

In July 2000, Ms. Duan was illegally arrested and held in the Qianan City Detention Center for nearly a month. She was detained several times in the following years. Every time she was held, her family had to pay 3,000-5,000 yuan. On one occasion Ms. Duan was taken into custody in a place in Leting County, Tangshan City. The police there slapped and kicked her. Her family had 7,000 yuan extorted from them.

Officers from the Qianan City Police Department arrested several practitioners in October 2007. Ms. Duan and her husband went to the police department and clarified the truth about Falun Gong to officer Peng Minghui, who put the couple in the Qianan City Detention Center. Several days later, their relatives paid 10,000 yuan in exchange for their release.

It was discovered back home that Ms. Duan had been injured both physically and mentally. The muscles in her legs and arms atrophied, and her hands and feet were deformed, causing severe pain. She was later bedridden and unable to move or take care herself. For over a year, she had to depend on her husband to take care of her. Gradually her health improved, but she has been arrested again.

Ms. Wen Cuijuan

Ms. Wen Cuijuan, 43, is from Shenjiaying Village, Yangdianzi Town, Qianan City. Six or seven policemen from the Domestic Security Division of Qianan City broke into her home at around 3:00 p.m. on March 2, 2010, while she was not there, and searched the place without showing any legal documents. The police forced her husband, who was home at the time, to lead them to Ms. Wen. The reason they gave was, "The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is holding its 'two conferences.'"

In July 1999, when the CCP started persecuting Falun Gong, Ms. Wen wrote a letter to the county magistrate to explain how practicing Falun Gong benefited her both mentally and physically. As a result, she was held in a detention center. Guard Hui Zhijiang slapped her over twenty times. She was released two weeks later.

In December 2000, Qianan City established a brainwashing center. The county magistrate at that time personally gave an order to put Ms. Wen into the center. Han Shengcai, director of Shenjiaying Village, along with CCP government officials of Yangdianzi Town, illegally arrested Ms. Wen and had her sent to the brainwashing center, where Ms. Wen was detained for five or six months. She was starved and forced to crawl on the ground, jump like a chicken or frog, squat down for prolonged periods, stand straight, motionless, and march like a solider. She was also subjected to other means of torture, including beatings, left to freeze in cold weather, put outside to burn under the sun in the summer, held in solitary confinement, etc. Her body was covered with scabs. Li Chengxia, head of the brainwashing center, incited Ms. Wen's husband to beat her. When Ms. Wen was released, 5,000 yuan was extorted from her. Ding Shuai, head of Yangdianzi Police Station, went to her home many times to threaten and harass her.

In October 2007 during the CCP's Seventeenth National People's Congress (NPC), Pu Yonglai from the Domestic Security Division of Qianan City, led police to arrest Ms. Wen and take her to the police station, where two officers took turns torturing her with electric batons. The skin on her legs and arms was badly burned. She was later taken to a detention center and a brainwashing center, and released only after being tortured to the brink of death. Yang Yulin, head of the brainwashing center, extorted 300 yuan from Ms. Wen's husband right before her release.

Before the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008, village director Wen Yongfu led police officers Ding Shuai, Pu Yonglai, and others to arrest Ms. Wen and take her to Kaiping Forced Labor Camp. She was persecuted so badly at that time that she had symptoms of diabetes and high blood pressure (which reached 240). Both the forced labor camp and the brainwashing center dared not admit her due to her precarious health. Two months later she was released.

In 2009 around the CCP's 60th anniversary celebration, village director Wen Yongfu again led officers Ding Shuai, Pu Yonglai, and others to Ms. Wen's home, attempting to arrest her. Fortunately she was not home at the time.
