(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Gong practitioner and career Army officer Mr. Wang Youjiang was secretly sentenced to ten years' imprisonment in 2001. He has been severely abused at Dashaping Prison in Lanzhou City, and now walks with a cane. Despite the fact that he has been tortured severely over these past ten years of persecution, Mr. Wang has never given up his belief.

Fifth Ward Warden Xiao Bin said to Mr. Wang, "It has been ten years, and we don't treat you that bad. Now that your term is about to end, it would be better if you wrote the three statements." Mr. Wang absolutely refused. Xiao Bin became furious, and threatened Mr. Wang, "If you do not write them, you will be directly taken to the brainwashing center." Mr. Wang answered, "Even if you take me to be beheaded, I will not write the three statements."

Brief Account of Mr. Wang's Case

Wang Youjiang was a major in the Military Regional Communications Unit in Lanzhou City. He began practicing Falun Gong in 1998. After the persecution began on July 20, 1999, he went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong and was detained several times. In late December 2000, he went to appeal again but was arrested on the way to Beijing in the Zhongwei Train Station waiting room in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. Officials transferred Mr. Wang to the Taoshuping Detention Center in Lanzhou City and held him for a week.

Someone reported Mr. Wang to the authorities on March 6, 2001, and he was again arrested. The truth-clarification materials production site that he had maintained was destroyed. The police ransacked his quarters and destroyed property valued at more than 100,000 yuan. This was the total settlement he had received from the military, which had been transferred to his civilian occupation.

While incarcerated in the Xiguoyuan Detention Center, the guards beat Mr. Wang ruthlessly. He was compelled to work at forced labor for a long time and was deprived of sleep. By the time he was transferred to the Siergou Detention Center, Mr. Wang's back was injured and he was unable to stand up.

On July 3, 2001, the Yuzhong Court sentenced Wang Youjiang to ten years in a covert trial. Mr. Wang was extremely weak from torture and from being on hunger strikes to protest his illegal detention. He recovered somewhat in the Dashaping Prison Hospital, but when he got a little better he was sent back to the prison.

Wang Youjiang has been incarcerated for ten years. He is languishing in the Fifth Ward of Dashaping Prison in Lanzhou City. In August 2008, citing security for the Olympics as a pretext, prison officials once again grossly abused Falun Gong practitioners in prison. Mr. Wang was twice locked in a small isolation cell, once for 15 days. In addition, he was forbidden to have family visits for six months.

(1) The detainee is locked up in a very small isolation cell. The guards handcuff the practitioner's arms behind their back in a fixed position, in which the practitioners can neither move nor lie down. The small cell is very damp and no sunshine comes in. There are no toilet privileges and detainees have to urinate and defecate in the cell. Only half of a regular meal is served to detainees locked up in a small cell during the daytime. During the night rats run around. The stench in the small cell is so bad that it is difficult to breathe.
