(Clearwisdom.net) Despite pressure from the Chinese Embassy not to issue a proclamation for Falun Dafa month - Mayor Barry J. Janyk and the Town Council of Gibsons, British Columbia, Canada refused to violate Canada's traditions of human rights and freedom, and instead chose to uphold their country's values.

The mayor of Gibsons said that if contacted by the Chinese government again, he would ask them to take their dictatorship elsewhere. The town invited a Western practitioner to accept the proclamation on behalf of the British Columbia Falun Dafa Association and to further inform everyone about the Chinese Communist Party's persecution of Falun Gong. The practitioner solemnly stood in front of the town's mayor and council and through a microphone clarified the truth to them and left each of them a flier introducing Falun Gong and exposing the persecution.

The town of Gibsons is on an island just off western Canada's coast of Vancouver.

Below is the text of the proclamation issued by Mayor Barry J. Janyk.

Town of Gibsons

Proclamation

Whereas Falun Dafa teachings have helped over 100 million people worldwide improve their health, elevate their mind, uplift their spirit, and deepen their understanding of life, humanity, and the universe;

And Whereas Falun Dafa practitioners practice the principle of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and incorporate it into their daily lives, striving to become better people in all environments and situations;

And Whereas more Canadians are learning the practice, thereby purifying their hearts and minds, and all Falun Dafa activities, including exercise classes and cultural events, are open to the public and free of charge;

And Whereas Falun Dafa practitioners from across Canada will gather to hold the 2010 Canada Experience Sharing Conference in Toronto this May, to share their experiences and continue to improve in the spirit of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance;

Now, Therefore I Barry J. Janyk, Mayor, Town of Gibsons do hereby proclaim May 2010 to be "Falun Dafa Month" Honouring Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance.

Barry J. Janyk, Mayor
