Editors' note: In both Western and Chinese cultures, the principle of karmic retribution, that is, being held ultimately accountable for one's own actions, is widely accepted. The fundamental teaching of Falun Gong is the characteristic of the universe, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. The universe will reward acts that are in harmony with this principle, while doing things such as beating, torturing and murdering people will incur karmic retribution. Stated another way, good deeds will be rewarded with good, while evildoings will meet due retribution. Articles such as this one are meant as a compassionate reminder of this principle to those who would commit wrongdoing. While many of those who persecute Falun Gong are merely "following orders," the universal law requires that they, too, be held responsible for their actions, and that only by reversing their course of wrongdoing may they escape retribution.
Hou Dajian, head of the Politics and Security Section of Anping County Police Department in Hebei Province, died of lung cancer at age 57 on July 2, 2010. Hou Dajian was said to have done all kinds of terrible things. A few examples are presented below. He refused to listen to practitioners' kind advice and even said, "I am not afraid of death. I don't want to live any longer."
Hou Dajian was known for his poor character and was apparently recognized in some circles as the "worst police officer." After Jiang Zemin and his followers started to persecute Falun Gong on July 20, 1999, Hou Dajian ganged up with officials from the Political and Judiciary Committee, the 610 Office and Hengshui City Police Department to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. Every time Hou Dajian arrested practitioners, he body-searched them by force, whether they were male or female. If he couldn't find money or just found little money, he would yell at and beat the male practitioners until he became tired, and he would curse female practitioners with dirty words.
Hou Dajian considered arresting practitioners as an easy way to obtain money. He collected money from ransacking practitioners' houses, searching them, and forcing their relatives to hand over money. From January to March 2004 alone, 16 practitioners from Anping County were illegally arrested. Among them, four were sent to forced labor camps, six had to leave their homes, at least five had a total of 49,000 yuan extorted from them.
In Nanzhuanghuotou Village on January 27, 2004, Hou Dajian and Wu Zhenxiang kicked down an elderly practitioner who was posting a truth-clarifying message and arrested another female practitioner as well as extorting 1,000 yuan from her. Around 11 p.m. on February 4, 2004, Hou Dajian and Wu Zhenxiang ganged up with Wang Yundao from Liangwaxiang Police Station and Yan Shushan and Du Jianping from the 610 Office in Hengshui City to arrest Mr. Wen Quan and his wife, Ms. Rong Rong, from Donglitun Village and stole the couple's valuable personal belongings, leaving their 10-year-old son at home alone.
On February 29, 2004, Hou Dajian again arrested an elderly practitioner. Because the practitioner had symptoms of illness, Hou Dajian repeatedly called the practitioner's relatives and extorted 10,000 yuan under the pretext of a release fee so she could receive medical treatment.
An elderly non-practitioner passed by the front door of Anping County Police Department at around 10 a.m. On January 21, 2005. She found a truth-clarifying poster (on which was written "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good") about to fall off a utility pole, so she reached out to fix it. Just as she lifted her arm to touch the poster, two police officers came out and arrested the woman and took her to the police department. Hou Dajian and Wang Yu frisked and interrogated the old woman and tried to force her to admit that she practiced Falun Gong and that she had put up the poster on the utility pole. The old woman said she knew nothing about it. Hou Dajian then smacked her across the face several times and viciously kicked her.
Hou Dajian's cell phone rang at that moment. He picked it up and was told that his wife was in critical condition, so he went home. Afterward, he contacted with officials from the detention center and planned to detain the old woman. Several days later, his wife died of a stroke. Hou Dajian had to hold her funeral during the Chinese New Year holiday while others celebrated the holiday.
Soon after his wife died at the beginning of 2005, Hou Dajian came down with diabetes.
Hou Dajian built a gas station in Tangshan City with some local partners in 2006. However, the local partners almost killed him financially, and he lost his investment, over 200,000 yuan. Soon after leaving Tangshan City, Hou Dajian was knocked down by a motorcycle and received a concussion. He had to stay in Shijiazhuang Hospital, which cost him 100,000 yuan in medical expenses just for several days. Because he was short of funds, Hou Dajian transferred to Anping County Hospital. After that he became thin and could only walk with the help of crutches.
After his traffic accident, several practitioners visited him many times to try and help him understand the truth about Falun Gong. Hou Dajian said that he did all the evil things he did following orders from higher-level authorities. Before he died, Hou Dajian finally understood that he was suffering karmic retribution because he had persecuted Falun Gong. In the end, Hou Dajian said that he would like to make a public declaration to quit the evil Chinese Communist Party.
