(Clearwisdom.net) The Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre, in Orlando, Florida, proudly hosted the Shen Yun Performing Arts show on June 30, 2010.

Patricia Bates, the mayor of Altamonte Springs, a beautiful suburb of Orlando, was clearly impressed by the Shen Yun show

"Wow, two-and-a-half hours, but as it turned out, it went by way too fast," she said. "I wasn't done yet. I needed to see more. It was phenomenal--everybody, the orchestra, the voices were excellent--such a range of voices!

"And of course, the dancers were amazing. I still want to know how they twirled those handkerchiefs [in the "Handkerchiefs" dance]. That to me is quite impressive."

She continued. "I am so glad I got to see it. The "Handkerchiefs" dance really did get me. I don't understand how they threw them and they came back to them. I kept thinking there had to be a trick, but there was no trick. They were just excellent.

"But, I think every dance was unique ... [The dancers] were phenomenal. I thought, gee, I wonder if there was a day I ever could have done that?"

The music also delighted the Mayor. "Excellent music. I've heard Chinese music before, but this was so different ... This [music] was unique. It just brought a whole different light to Chinese culture, as far as I'm concerned. I really didn't know about this type of dance ... so I was, I was in awe."

Mayor Bates talked a little about the two dance sets, "Nothing Can Block the Divine Path" and "Astounding Conviction," which portray the persecution of the Chinese meditation group, Falun Gong.

"I felt for the Chinese people because I know that this show brought out some of the problems going on there and some of the things that people are having to deal with there.

"It bothers me, because everybody should be able to do what they want to do. This show should be able to be seen by Chinese people. But it really brought to light problems that we don't really hear about. I think they keep the problems in China, meaning, we don't hear about it, but this was a real lesson for ... all of us to realize how lucky we are."

Commissioner of Winter Park: Shen Yun Was a "Sheer Pleasure to Watch"

Carolyn Cooper, the commissioner of Winter Park

Also in attendance was Carolyn Cooper, the commissioner of Winter Park, a delightful city adjacent to Orlando.

"Everything was perfect--the choreography, the scenery, the voice, and the music. And I just want to say thank you for sharing your culture with us, the beauty of your culture. And thank you for helping us heal the pain and loss, and understanding the hope and the strength that you bring here and share," said Ms. Cooper.

She continued. "The City of Winter Park prides itself in being a city of culture and heritage, and I will say it was sheer pleasure to watch your passion and your dedication to the arts and your passion for bringing your culture and continuing to tell the story of traditional Chinese culture, and I thank you for that," explained the Commissioner.

"While you're here, I hope you have the opportunity to visit Winter Park. We have outstanding, world-class shopping, fine-dining, and we also have wonderful museums and galleries," she said.

On behalf of the city's mayor, Ms. Cooper presented a letter paying homage to Shen Yun. She said she felt very honored to do that.
