(Clearwisdom.net) Practitioner Mr. Xu Yaxuan, 60, is a resident of Yushu City, Jilin Province. He was once manager of Yushu Construction Materials, Match, and Lumber Factory. He was well known and respected by his employees for being a law-abiding citizen and a caring person who was concerned about the welfare of the employees. The following documents the persecution to which he has been subjected by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for practicing Falun Gong.

1. Detention and Forced Labor

On January 16, 2000, Mr. Xu was illegally arrested by local police officer Ma Yanming and taken to the Police Department's National Security Team, where he was tortured and interrogated. The police used the excuse that Mr. Xu would not give up practicing Falun Gong to justify detaining and torturing him. They wanted to know what he did when several practitioners went to his home on January 5. The interrogation continued from around noon until midnight that day. He was then locked up in the detention center for over two months.

On April 30, 2000, officer Wang Guang from Zhengyang Police Station drove Mr. Xu to Weizigou Forced Labor Camp in Changchun City. On the third day at the forced labor camp, Mr. Xu was ordered to dredge up Kalun Lake. At the time, there were two teams of around 200 people working on the dredging from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. At noon they ate and rested for an hour at the work site. As it was still cold in early May in northeast China, people wore thick winter clothes. The ice at the bottom of the lake that was more than 30 centimeters (12 in.) thick had not melted yet. The labor camp inmates and Falun Gong practitioners had to carry on their shoulders heavy bags of wet pebbles, while their sweat and muddy water kept dripping down their backs and buttocks to their ankles. After they cleaned the asphalt sheets in the waist-deep water, they had to come ashore to dry their own clothes. Sometimes they were slow and had to wear the wet clothes while being herded onto the vehicle. The camp guards would sometimes whip them with bamboo broomsticks or throw rocks at them.

In June 2000, the forced labor camp launched a campaign to force all detained practitioners to give up practicing Falun Gong. Those who did not give in were forced to stand in the scorching sun and go through military-style drills. After an eight-hour day of exhausting training, they were then forced to sit straight on small benches.

The Jilin Province 610 Office and Changchun Forced Labor Administration gathered all of the male practitioners detained at Weizigou Forced Labor Camp, Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp, and Fenjin Forced Labor Camp, at Fenjin Forced Labor Camp for an intense campaign on July 20, 2000. During that time, Mr. Xu was deceived by inmates and gave up practicing Falun Gong. Afterward, he realized he had been deceived and reversed his decision.

One day after breakfast, Mr. Xu removed his guarantee statement, which was posted on the propaganda bulletin board in the hallway. Deputy Captain Yin saw this and prolonged his term by four months as punishment. In September, he was transferred to the Sixth Team, the so-called "strictly disciplined" team. Six inmates took three shifts a day, two to each shift, to monitor him every day. Mr. Xu was diagnosed with high blood pressure during a physical examination. His blood pressure was as high as 230, yet the authorities would not release him. Instead they extended his term by six months and released him on July 18, 2001.

The day after he got home, personnel from the local Discipline and Inspection Committee delivered a notification letter telling him that he had been expelled from the Chinese Communist Party.

2. Displaced and Homeless

Mr. Xu's wife Peng Zhanrong went through tremendous physical and mental suffering. She lived in the shadow of fear daily as the local police and National Security Team often harassed her family and sent her husband and her daughter-in-law to forced labor camps. She had a relapse of illness and passed away on February 21, 2002.

Personnel from the Yushu Municipal Government, 610 Office, local police department, Radio and Television Bureau, National Security Team, and Zhengyang Police Station, with several vehicles and dozens of people carrying cameras, broke into Mr. Xu's home. They attempted to tape scenes and then falsify news to defame Falun Gong. Only after Mr. Xu's relatives resisted did they stop and leave.

At around 3:00 a.m. on March 6, 2002, officer Wang Liang from Zhengyang Police Station led Chen Wei and another officer to Mr. Xu's home. They told him that National Security Team Captain Zhang Deqing wanted to see him and that he must go with them. He managed to escape, but his knee was injured in the process. After that he led a displaced life to avoid further persecution.

3. Arrest

Mr. Xu was arrested again by officer An Yanguo and two other policemen from Zhengyang Police Station on July 30, 2007. He was taken to the police station in a vehicle by Shi Hailin and Liu Xuzheng from the National Security Team, where he was interrogated. The authorities fabricated charges and sent him to the detention center. On the morning of the fifteenth day in the detention center, he was taken to Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp in Changchun and sentenced to a one-year term. Due to his deteriorating health that was highlighted during the physical examination prior to entering the forced labor camp, he was released after the authorities extorted 1,000 yuan from his family.
