Back in 1868, Marie Ann Smith—aka Granny Smith—grew a batch of deliciously tangy green apples on her farm in Eastwood, and the festival is named in memory of her contribution to the community.

This year, more than 2000 people from 45 different ethnic groups participated in the parade. Twenty thousand spectators lined the streets to watch.

The Divine Land Marching Band and celestial maiden dancers, all local practitioners, performed in the parade. The host of the parade briefly introduced Falun Gong to the spectators, who applauded with enthusiasm. A Chinese gentleman said that the practitioners presented a positive reflection of Chinese culture, and as a Chinese, they made him proud.

Practitioners also handed out many informational brochures, calling for help to end the persecution.
