(Clearwisdom.net) A Falun Gong practitioner in Shenzhen was illegally detained at a detention center, and was released only after she suffered persecution-induced renal failure. Nonetheless, local police arrested her again several days later, and seized her residence permit. The police claimed to have a document stating that Falun Gong practitioners are not allowed to have residential permits. The Chinese Communist Party's persecution of Falun Gong has gone so far as to deprive practitioners of the right to have a place to live. The following is the practitioner's account of the persecution imposed upon her.

“I was released from a detention center on December 4, 2010, when I was on the brink of death. Unexpectedly, at around 5:00 p.m. on January 5, 2011, the security officer at my community, along with some police officers, came to my rented residence, searched everywhere and turned everything upside-down, in an attempt to find so-called evidence to justify my continued persecution. They seized my residence permit, my computer, and other personal belongings. They also took me to the police station where several officers made two attempts to take a photo of me. I warned them, 'Because of the persecution, I'm now a renal failure patient. You will be held responsible if anything happens to me. I have done nothing wrong, why do you want to take my photo?'

The officers later reported the situation to their higher-ups and sought instructions, and several hours later they had to send me back home. However, they cancelled my residence permit. My residence permit was issued to me after having been approved nearly two years ago. The police even claimed that they have a document stating that Falun Gong practitioners are not allowed to have residence permits.

The police threatened me, saying I needed to leave my home. They also pressured my landlord, urging him not to rent the house to me. I have been living here for more than three years and I get along well with my neighbors.

I went to the police station several times to ask for my residence permit, but the officials said they had turned it over to their higher-ups. I went to talk with the head of the police station, and he told me I would have to move out. I then went to the police department but I was forbidden to meet with the officials. I eventually went to the Bao'an Police Department's Appeals Office, but they avoided my case when they learned that it was related to Falun Gong.

I have no way to sue the police who beat me into disability in the detention center, and neither can I get back the 500 yuan that was stolen by them. I was still harassed after suffering from serious renal problems as a result of persecution. Now my legal residence permit has been annulled and I was forced to move out.

Where is there a safe place for Falun Gong practitioners to live?”
