(Clearwisdom.net) Since Jiang’s regime and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began to persecute Falun Gong practitioners in July 1999, about 100 practitioners have been documented as being illegally imprisoned, detained, and/or taken to labor camps or brainwashing centers in Ninghe County in Tianjin. Among them, three died as the result of abuse and 28 were sentenced to imprisonment. In 103 instances the practitioners were sent to forced labor camps and, practitioners were taken to brainwashing centers 230 times. Not only were these practitioners deprived of their personal freedom, many of their families were destroyed due to this persecution. Below are some examples.

Detained and mistreated in a brainwashing center

Mr. Zhang Jintang lives in Fengtai Town in Ninghe County. Before the 2001 Chinese New Year, he was arrested and taken to the Dayu Brainwashing Center, where he was detained for two and a half months. His salary was reduced by two months (a total of 1,500 yuan), and police extorted an additional 750 yuan from his family. Police officers arrested him again on January 1, 2002, and detained him at the township compound for 15 days. They ransacked his home, extorted 1000 yuan from him, and later deducted one month's salary from him.

Ms. Dong Shumin is a practitioner from Ninghe County. Village head Zhu Defu and Ninghe Town head Han Zhenhe drove to Ms. Dong’s place one evening at 10:00 pm in September 1999. They made her go to the township compound. She was deprived of her personal freedom and was watched even when she used the toilet. Officials also extorted 500 yuan from her. Zhu and Han went to her home again one evening at 8:00 p.m. in December 1999 and arrested her. They detained her in the township brainwashing center for more than three weeks and extorted 1000 yuan from her.

Ms. Liang Fen is from Fengtai Town in Ninghe County. Liu Yuhai, Party secretary of the Xiaoli Town Political and Judicial Office, and than 10 people and went to Ms. Liang’s home in the middle of the night in July 2000. They forced themselves in and arrested her. They kept her in the county detention center for 15 days and extorted 300 yuan from her. Ms. Liang had a happy family life when both she and her husband practiced Falun Gong. After the persecution started, however, her husband was terrified and collapsed mentally. After giving up the practice, he died on December 14, 2003.

Ms. Zhao Chunwen is a 59-year-old practitioner who lives in Ninghe County. Police agent Yang Shujun, together with three other agents and staff from the 610 Office, went to Ms. Zhao’s home at 7:00 p.m. on May 13, 2002. They ransacked her home, arrested her, and took her to the Lutai Police Station. Wang Xueying, head of the cotton mill, took Ms. Zhao to her workplace on May 14, and ordered people to watch her even when she went to the toilet. Officials took her to the county detention center on May 16, 2002, and kept her for 15 days. After returning home, Ms. Zhao was still being monitored by people from her workplace or from the residential committee. This continued until 2008.

Ms. Wang Zizhong is a 48-year-old Falun Gong practitioner who lives in Biaokou Town, Ninghe County. Police station officials kept her in a brainwashing center for three days starting on December 23, 2000. They forced her to write statements to denounce Falun Gong and extorted 300 yuan from her. Police agents went to her home again on December 25, 2002, and ordered her to write statements denouncing Falun Gong. They threatened to send her to the Dayu Brainwashing Center. Police agent Tian Shuzhong and others went to harass her every day after that.

Labor camp detention and imprisonment

Ms. Sheng Fuhua lives in Fengtai Town, Ninghe County. She went to Beijing to appeal for the second time on November 4, 2000. Officers arrested her and took her to the county police department the same day. After being kept at the detention center for more than 40 days, she was sentenced to forced labor for one year. In Banqiao Forced Labor Camp in Tianjin, she was deprived of sleep and often forced to stand for a long time. Agents from the Chaoluowo Town Police Station arrested her in the evening on August 25, 2002, because she was distributing {{truth-clarification} materials. The agents transferred her to the Yutian County Detention Center the next day and detained her for 81 days. The officials then sentenced Ms. Sheng to forced labor for one and a half years. She was sent to the Kaiping District Labor Camp on November 9, 2002, and was released on January 17, 2004.

Ms. Qi Yuying, 57, also lives in Fengtai Town. Agents from the Chaoluowo Town Police Station arrested her in the evening on August 25, 2002, for distributing truth-clarification materials. The agents transferred her to the Yutian County Police Station the next day. Officials kept her in a cage for three days without food or water. Ms. Qi was transferred to the county detention center on August 28 and forced to pick hot peppers. Because of the intensive labor, both her thumbnails fell off. Officials sent her to the Kaiping District Forced Labor Camp in Tangshan City for two years on November 19, 2002.

Mr. Song Zhishan, 67 years old, lives in Fengtai Town. Officials beat him on April 25, 1999, for going to Tianjin Normal University and clarifying the truth. Officials detained him in the Fengtai Town Brainwashing Center for a month. Mr. Song went to Beijing to appeal again in 2000, and the Ninghe Court sentenced him to a term of three years. Officials detained him in Liyuan Prison in Tianjin City and extorted 400 yuan from him. During the imprisonment, Mr. Song was forced to do slave labor, had blood samples taken, was force-fed, and had to sit on a small stool for a long time. During the force-feeding, Mr. Song had pulmonary hemorrhage and almost died. He was also deprived of food, sleep, and the use of a toilet for three days. Police arrested him again on December 20, 2008.

Ms. Liu Qiufang lives in Xiaoli Town in Ninghe County. Officers from the Xiaoli Town Police Station arrested her in November 2000, kept her in the township brainwashing center for a month, and extorted 500 yuan from her. Ninghe County court officials sentenced her to imprisonment for a term of two and a half years on June 5, 2005. While she was in Tianjin Women's Prison, guards ordered inmates to beat her and force her to sit on a small stool for a long time. As a result, she could not move her left leg.
