At 8 a.m. on January 19, 2011, Ms. Chen Xue was arrested at work. The police ransacked her home, confiscating her Falun Dafa books, computer, and other personal belongings. The police left a detention certificate issued by the Cangshan District Police Department of Fuzhou, although Ms. Chen's home was not in the Cangshan District. Ms. Chen was detained at the Fuzhou Number One Detention Center.

On February 15, Ms. Chen's family hired an attorney to defend her. The next day, her attorney called police officer Lin Feng of the Second Brigade, Domestic Security Division, Fuzhou Police Department, requesting to meet Ms. Chen. Lin returned the call and told the attorney that the authorities did not want the attorney to see her before any court action, and that her attorney had to wait until the prosecution against her started. In China, the law guarantees a defendant the right to meet with an attorney, except in classified cases. However, orders from Communist Party officials nullified the defendant's and attorney's rights. On February 25, Ms. Chen was secretly sentenced and taken to Fujian Provincial Women's Forced Labor Camp.

During the past few years, Ms. Chen has been persecuted by the head of her university and the police because she practices Falun Gong and tells people about the persecution of Falun Gong.

At the end of November 2011, someone reported Ms. Chen to the authorities for telling students about the staged “Tiananmen Self-Immolation” incident and about how tens of millions of Chinese citizens have quit the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its affiliated organizations. Under the direction of Chen Hua, Party Secretary of the Fujian Provincial Education Work Committee, the university removed Ms. Chen from her teaching position and reassigned her to administrative tasks.

On December 29, 2006, Ms. Chen was arrested by police officers from the Jinnan District Domestic Security Division of Fuzhou. She refused to write the guarantee statement and was detained for 15 days. After she returned to school, the university continued to persecute her. They gave her a rating of “failed” on her annual performance evaluation, resulting in the loss of part of her salary.

To enhance her teaching skills, Ms. Chen had enrolled in a part-time Master's program. She had completed all the course work and was working on her Master's thesis, but the school administration informed her that she would not be awarded a Master's degree since she did not pass the “political investigation.”

On the afternoon of May 9, 2008, Ms. Chen was arrested and taken to the Hongshan Police Station in Fuzhou by police from the Gulou District Domestic Security Division, also in Fuzhou. Her home was ransacked that night. Police confiscated her printer, computer, and other personal belongings.
