Ms. Lu Ran was arrested outside of the residential building where she lives on March 25, 2011. It was the seventh she had been arrested. The police took Ms. Lu's keys and ransacked her home. They confiscated some personal belongings. Ms. Lu was taken to Hebei Women's Forced Labor Camp on March 30.

Ms. Lu's mother had an accident at the beginning of this year and was in critical condition. She finally improved after two weeks of emergency treatment. She had two major surgeries and is about to have a third. She is hospitalized and needs her family's company and support. Ms. Lu took time off from work for two months to take care of her mother. Ms. Lu and her father, who is in his 60s, took turns caring for her mother. Ms. Lu also has a young child to care for. Her arrest put the whole family in a very difficult situation.

During the past 11 years of the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) persecution of Falun Gong, she has been detained in a forced labor camp twice. Her mother was arrested several times and was subjected to beatings, extortion, and brainwashing.

The following is a summary of what Ms. Lu and her mother have endured over the last 11 years:

Daughter Denied Employed, Mother Fired and Fined

Ms. Lu Ran graduated from Shijiazhuang Normal College in 1999. Because she practiced Falun Gong, the local Education Bureau refused to employ her. Her mother, Ms. Liang Huiling, was fined 1000 yuan at her workplace. The authorities said, “We will not allow you to have any food and then see if you continue practicing Falun Gong.” Her job as an accountant was terminated. Her work paid her 200 yuan per month initially and stopped paying even that several months later.

Mother and Daughter Beaten

Ms. Lu was detained in the Yudong Police Station for 15 days in February 2000. She was interrogated and tortured for three days and nights by Zhang Jianhong and several other officers from Yudong Police Station. She was beaten, forced to stand, deprived of sleep, and verbally abused and sworn at during the interrogation. Her mother went to Beijing to try to appeal for justice for Falun Gong in April 2000. She was detained in Yudong Police Station for 30 days. Han Zenglu, an officer from Yudong Police Station, slapped Ms. Liang's face dozens of times.

Ms. Lu Suffered Physically and Mentally in Forced Labor Camp

In July 2000, Ms. Lu was illegally sent to Shijiazhuang Forced Labor Camp. She was forced to do more than ten hours of hard labor a day. The Falun Gong practitioners were subjected to beatings, shocking by electric batons, and forced to stand while being sworn at.

Mother and Daughter Detained Several Times

Ms. Lu was released in January 2001, but the police still kept harassing her. Ms. Lu became homeless to avoid further persecution. On December 21, 2001, Ms. Lu was arrested by the Shijiazhuang 610 Office and illegally detained in the city's No. 1 Detention Center until November 2002. She had convulsions twice, but the detention center doctor refused to treat her. She was sentenced to three years of forced labor in November 2002. Officers from Xinshi Police Station took her to the forced labor camp even though she was having convulsions at the time. She was on the brink of death when they arrived at the labor camp. Camp authorities refused to admit her. The officers had to take her to the hospital and assign an officer to monitor her. They carried her from the hospital to the labor camp even though she was still in critical condition. She almost died from the convulsions. She was held in the fifth division and subjected to brainwashing.

Her mother, Ms. Liang Huiling, went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong in March 2001. She was arrested and detained in many places. Officers from Yudong Police Station were about to send her to the forced labor camp, but her blood pressure was high, and the camp didn't dare to admit her. Yudong Police Station continued to detain her. She was released after lots of rescue efforts. In the summer of 2002, Ms. Liang was taken to a forced labor camp and subjected to brainwashing. They deprived her of sleep and indoctrinated her with lies in order to force her to renounce Falun Gong.
