(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Wang Guixiang from Qingdao City, Shandong Province was arrested in February 2011. Local police prevented her lawyer from meeting with her. Jiaozhou Court officials first deceived her lawyer and told him that the trial would be postponed, but then they covertly put Ms. Wang on trial without informing him. Ms. Wang's lawyer will file a lawsuit against the Jiaozhou Court.

Yanghe Town police officers arrested Ms. Wang Guixiang on February 18, 2011, as she delivered two Shen Yun Performing Arts DVDs at a market. Ms. Wang was then taken to the Dashan Detention Center. One month later Jiaozhou Police Department officials mailed Ms. Wang's husband, Mr. Liu Shijun a notice informing him of his wife's arrest.

Mr. Liu hired attorney Mr. Xie Yanyi from Beijing to enter a non-guilty plea for his wife.

It is a fundamental right granted by law that a defense attorney shall meet with his client to discuss the case. But Mr. Xie was subjected to all kinds of obstructions. First, officers from the Yanghe Town Police Station exerted pressure on Ms. Wang's husband and other family members, and ordered them to dismiss their Beijing lawyer; otherwise, Ms. Wang would be given a heavy sentence. At the same time, the local authorities used all kinds of excuses to prevent Ms. Wang's defense attorney from meeting with her, and hindered him from having access to the related documents and materials regarding his client's prosecution.

Ms. Wang was scheduled to stand trial at 9:30 a.m. on May 25. Lawyer Mr. Xie left Jiaozhou and returned to Beijing to wait for the trial date. But two days ahead of the trial, at 4:00 p.m. on May 23, a Jiaozhou Court official called Mr. Xie in Beijing and told him that Ms. Wang's trial would be postponed, and that he had to wait for further notice regarding the specific trial date.

While Mr. Xie waited to be notified by the Jiaozhou Court, the court officials covertly tried Ms. Wang on the morning of June 3, and illegally sentenced her. As of now, Mr. Xie still hasn't received a notice from the Jiaozhou Court on the updated trial date.

Mr. Xie is very angry at the Jiaozhou Court for blatantly trampling the law. The accused has a Constitutional right to hire a defense lawyer, no one has the right to deprive the accused of the right to be defended, or the defense attorney of the right to defend the accused.

Mr. Xie has started preparing indictment documents, and will sue the Jiaozhou Court at an appropriate time.
