(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhou Bin, from Shanghai, was arrested on January 17, 2001. He was sentenced to twelve years of imprisonment. He has been subjected to maltreatment in prison for ten years now. Below is a partial account of the persecution he has suffered.

Shanghai Tilanqiao Prison

Mr. Zhou Bin started to practice Falun Gong in 1995 when the practice was flourishing in China before persecution started in 1999. On January 17, 2001, he was illegally arrested and interrogated by Wang Yu and other police officers from Shanghai Changning District Public Security Subdivision. It is believed that Mr. Zhou was sentenced to prison in December 2001. After he was taken to the detention center, the police officers kept him handcuffed with his hands behind his back for a very long time.

Torture Re-enactment: Handcuffed behind the back

Mr. Zhou was taken to Tilanqiao prison at the beginning of 2002. He was detained in a small cell year-round. In the cell, he was forced to sit on the ground and keep his legs straight, his hands were placed either behind his back or on his legs. Sometimes the police forced him to straighten his arms and hold them at a 45 degree angle away from his body. He was forced to sit without moving in this position from 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., more than 15 hours every day.

Led by Dai Wenlong, the police used every possible means, tough and soft, to “transform him”. They arranged inmates to hold meetings against him to pressure him and create an atmosphere of terror. The police also ordered inmates to repeatedly beat him, adding more injuries to his body that had already become disabled after the severe beatings he was subjected to at the detention center.

Torture Re-enactment: Violent beatings

One night in 2004, Mr. Zhou bent his legs while sleeping. The inmate who was ordered to watch him reported him, claiming he was doing the fifth exercise. The police ordered the inmates to beat him, and they locked him in a small cell with both hands cuffed. At the end of 2004, police officer Dai Wenlong tied his arms to the sides of his waist with a leather belt. The width of the belt was about 8 inches. Except for his head, he couldn't move his upper body at all. Dai kept Mr. Zhou tied up tightly this way for several months. Mr. Zhou suffered great physical and mental pain. Another time around June 2005, while he did the sitting meditation, several inmates who guarded him surrounded and beat him. One of them kicked his joints with his feet. This time after the beating, his legs and feet were severely injured and he limped for a very long time.

Torture Re-enactment: Severe beatings

On February 24, 2005, the police ordered the inmates to savagely beat him, severely injuring his genitals.

Mr. Zhou's mother wrote letters to related government departments to report the situation and demanded that the prison guards be held accountable for his injuries. Mr. Zhou has been subjected to brutal beatings and tortures, but not a single person involved in persecuting him has been charged yet.
