(Clearwisdom.net) Several officials of the Development Zone Hospital in Dalian have acted as enforcers for the Chinese Communist Party in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. They attempted to force practitioners to give up their belief many times and pressured them to write guarantee statements declaring that they would give up their practice. They also demanded that practitioners not go to Beijing or local areas to appeal, and to hand over their Falun Gong books. They confiscated their ID cards, forced them into brainwashing centers, and transferred them from their original positions. Three outstanding nurses were persecuted very severely: Ms. Yang Xiulan, Ms. Zhou Yanbo, and Ms. Wang ChunE.

Ms. Yang Xiulan was the head nurse at the Dalian Development Zone Hospital. She and the two other practitioners, Ms. Zhou Yanbo and Ms. Wang ChunE, were the founders of this hospital. To try to force them to give up their belief, hospital cadres talked to them during meetings and face to face, plus they put pressure on their families. Secretary Gui Jinfu once said to Ms. Zhou, “If you continue to practice and refuse to write the guarantee statement, then it will mean dismissing you from work and involve the issue of being 'inside or outside the walls' (meaning detention).” In addition, a hospital cadre once attempted to send these three to the Dalian Drug Rehabilitation Center to be brainwashed, but they firmly resisted. Afterward, they found out that a police car had already been waiting downstairs and that the hospital cadres had already found nurses to replace them and had paid a 2000-yuan brainwashing fee to each person at the Drug Rehabilitation Center.

During the holidays, employers and the 610 Office colluded to send practitioners to brainwashing or detention centers. Once during working hours, they seized Ms. Yang and Ms. Wang and took them to the detention center in Dalian, where they held them illegally for 15 days. After they were released, the cadres at their workplace demoted them from their nursing posts, removed Ms. Yang from her position as head nurse, and had them assigned to clean the restrooms. Later, due to the persuasion of others, the cadres re-assigned them to the Hospital Guide section.

In 2000, Gui Jinfu talked to two of the nurses again and told them that if they didn't denounce their practice and hand over their Falun Gong books, they would be put into forced labor camps. They were given one day to consider this. Finally, they had to leave the hospital and become destitute in order to avoid further persecution. However, the cadres fabricated lies and said Falun Gong practitioners did not want to work, didn't care about their families, and so on.

When the nurses wanted to go back to work after being released from a forced labor camp, the hospital cadres ordered them to write a guarantee statement, denunciation statements, etc. Otherwise they were not allowed to resume work.

Ms. Zhou Yanbo used to be emaciated and ill, but after she started to practice Falun Gong, all her illnesses disappeared. She did not even have to spent one cent on prescription drugs, thus she saved many thousands on medical expenses. She worked on the front lines in the clinic for over ten years, never made mistakes, and exercised solid professional skills. She always performed her duties according to the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and earned high praise from colleagues and cadres. She received honors, including “outstanding guidance teacher,” “outstanding nurse,” and “advanced worker.”

In 2000, she went to Beijing over a weekend to appeal for justice for Falun Gong, but before she was able to reach her destination, she was arrested.

Two other nurses went together to see warden Li Xuezhong and ask to resume work. Li Xuezhong shouted that they could not come back to work if they did not write a guarantee statement. Afterwards, he called the police and claimed that practitioners were hindering him from doing his work and had the two nurses dismissed. After this incident, these practitioners asked to be reinstated many times. He actually said to them, “You no longer belong to this hospital; you are dismissed.” Normally a dismissal involves going through a certain procedure, but he mentioned there would be no procedure, as this was an oral dismissal. Li Meng from the Human Resources Department casually removed Ms. Zhou Yanbo from the employee list.

Ms. Zhou Yanbo has not been allowed to work for 11 years. Since October 2000, she has not received one cent in wages or subsidy. Due to pressure from both his workplace and the police, her husband was forced to divorce her. This lady has a son, does not receive any wages, and has no family, but she must pay the rent and her son's college fees. She has moved innumerable times during these years, enduring unimaginable hardship and mental stress.
