(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Liu Yulan from Lijin Town, Lijin County, Shandong Province, 62, was recongized as a model official during her career as a government official. Because she remained steadfast in her belief in Falun Gong, she was detained in a forced labor camp and tortured until she was in critical condition. She died on August 18, 2011.

Before she passed away, Ms. Liu had been severely maltreated three times by the communist regime. In April 2002, she was taken to the Wangcun Brainwashing Center by the Lijin County 610 Office, where she was brutally tortured. In April 2004, she was forcibly taken to the Wangcun Brainwashing Center again, where she went on a hunger strike to resist the persecution. She was persecuted so severely that she became extremely feeble.

On August 15, 2009, Ms. Liu was illegally arrested while telling people the facts about Falun Gong in Baimaozhang Village. She was detained for three days and was then sentenced to one year and nine months in the Wangcun Women’s Forced Labor Camp in Zibo City.

While in the labor camp, Ms. Liu was subjected to all kinds of brutal torture. Due to the extreme mistreatment, within six months she became very thin and developed heart disease, cirrhosis and ascites. She suffered edema all over her body and she was unable to take care of herself.

Because of her fragile health condition, Ms. Liu was granted medical parole while her trial was pending. However, by the time she was released for medical treatment, she was emaciated and in critical condition, with severe symptoms of many illnesses. She died at 1:30 a.m. on August 18, 2011.
