(Clearwisdom.net) Li Cuihong is a physics teacher at Tianshui Middle School in Gansu Province. After witnessing the dramatic changes in her husband after he began practicing Falun Gong, she also started the practice in March, 1997. Since then, all the diseases that she'd previously suffered from have been cured. However, since July 20, 1999 when the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started persecuting Falun Gong, she has been repeatedly persecuted and was subsequently forced to leave home in order to avoid further persecution.

Arrested After Appealing to the Provincial Government

When the persecution began, Li Cuihong and other practitioners participated in the peaceful appeal at the provincial government office entrance on the morning of July 20, 1999. However, the government dispatched armed security forces, and police arrested the practitioners, then took them to the Qilihe Stadium. Later, they were taken to another location in Tianshui by Tianshui Public Security Bureau officials. After interrogation and documenting their names, the police notified their work units to bring them home, with the exception of Wang Yongming and several other practitioners, who were taken to the Maiji District Public Security Bureau. They were released the following day.

Arrested After the Beijing Appeal

During the initial stages of persecution, all of the television stations broadcasted reports which defamed and attacked Falun Gong with false information. Ms. Li and her husband felt very sad after viewing this misinformation. On January 4, 2000, they went to appeal for the right to practice Falun Dafa in Beijing, and practiced the exercises in Tiananmen Square. As a result, several plainclothes police beat them, and then took them to the Tiananmen Square Security Office. That same day, they were taken to the train station by the Tianshui Office in Beijing, then forced to return home.

As soon as they got off the train, they were taken to the Maiji District Public Security Bureau. Officer Feng Jitang handcuffed them to water pipes in different rooms. Officials also told the authorities from the department of education to threaten their jobs if they didn't give up their practice. Ms. Li didn't cooperate, so Feng Jitang and others decided to incarcerate her at the detention center for fifteen days. Later, her husband Wang Yongming was also detained there and then released on New Year's Eve. Ms. Li went on a hunger strike to protest the torture. She was released four days later.

When they returned home, they learned that Feng Jitang and other officers had already extorted over 1,000 yuan from their family, without providing a receipt.

Illegal Detention Prior to Two Conferences

Just prior to the opening of the Two CCP Conferences, a group of officers from the Mapaoquan Police Station drove to the Mapaoquan Sanshidianzi Affiliated Middle School. The principal summoned Ms. Li to his office. After all the students were dismissed, they took her to the Mapaoquan Police Station. That evening, a group of people representing officials from all levels of Beidao District, Mapaoquan Town including the Mapaoquan District superintendent and the Police Station director, threatened Ms. Li to stop practicing Falun Gong. They attempted to make her give up her belief in Falun Dafa until the next evening, but without success. Three police station officials took practitioners Li Cuihong, Zhang Yingtang and Yang Yanguang to the Daobei Detention Center in Tianshui, where they were held for thirty days.

Sentenced to Two Years of Forced Labor

In April 2001, the Maiji District Post Office in Tianshui along with the Public Security Bureau illegally tapped Ms. Li's phone. Officers Feng Jitang and Wu Hongxia withheld a personal letter sent by Ms. Li. They broke into her home and confiscated Dafa media and the book Zhuan Falun. In addition, they detained her at the Maiji District Public Security Bureau, where she was interrogated for three days.

On the third morning, Feng Jitang beat her, injuring her face and nose. Later, Feng Jitang, Wu Hongxia and another officer beat her again, injuring several parts of her body. Her legs were swollen and she couldn't walk. She was finally released after Feng Jitang and another official extorted over 1,000 yuan from Ms. Li's parents. Officials threatened her, “Wait and see. We'll give you another lesson later this year.”

On Oct 17, 2001, officers Feng Jitang and Pei Junqing from the Maiji District Public Security Bureau illegally arrested Ms. Li, then took her to the Maiji District Public Security Bureau. The following morning, they took her and practitioner Wang Qiaorui to the Gansu Province Second Labor Camp, where they were detained for two years.

Three days later, Li Cuihong passed along one of Teacher's articles to other practitioners in the labor camp. As as a result, instructor Wang Yonghong tortured her. Ms. Li was handcuffed behind her back to the top deck of the bunkbed, leaving only her toes touching the floor - this was truly painful. She was handcuffed for seven days, and not allowed to drink water. They even limited her food and toilet use. Seven days later, the handcuffs had cut so deeply into her skin that a bone was exposed. She lost sensation and use of her arms.

Torture Re-enactment: Beating

Falun Gong practitioners were subjected to “military training” activities. Sometimes, they were forced to work for extended periods and do intense labor. Most of the time, they worked twenty hours a day. They were beaten or physically punished whenever they failed to complete their tasks. Ms. Li was tortured for two years in this physically and mentally stressful environment. After she wrote a solemn declaration about her persecution, she was forced to undergo sleep deprivation for several days, and her term was extended by another month.

Forced to Leave Home to Avoid Further Persecution

The day after she returned home, and before she could recover from the long-term torture, principal Gao Shuangwei asked her father (who was disabled) to accompany her to work. In January 2005, authorities ordered Zhang Guixian and Zhao Wanzong to go to her home to force her to write a guarantee statement, stating that she would stop practicing Falun Gong.

Officer Fan Yirong and a Second Forced Labor Camp official in Gansu Province drove from Lanzhou to Tianshui to revisit all practitioners previously detained at the Second Forced Labor Camp in Gansu Province. They went to their work units or homes to interrogate, monitor and harass them. They also interrogated Li Cuihong at the principal's office.

Since that time, Ms. Li has been followed and monitored by police station and Public Security Bureau officials. She was subsequently forced to leave home in order to avoid further persecution.
