Details of the Case

Mr. Xu was born in January 1983 and is from Xinyi City, Jiangsu Province. He began to practice Falun Dafa in May 2013.

On August 20, 2013, he went to Shanghai to clarify the facts about the persecution of Falun Gong to people. Police from Pudong New District arrested him and sent him to the Pudong Detention Center without any legal procedure.

Starting on August 29, guards forced Mr. Xu to sit still on a small stool for six days and deprived him of sleep. Two guards took turns monitoring him. When he dozed off, they beat him.

On October 5, the guards deprived him of sleep again. They woke him up at 4 a.m. and forced him to sit still on a small stool until midnight. When he fell asleep, the guards shocked him with electric batons. They also force-fed him mustard water through his nostrils and beat him.

Starting on November 2, Mr. Xu was forced to sleep on a wet concrete floor. He went on a hunger strike again to protest the abuse. The guards force-fed him through a plastic tube while holding him down.

To prevent Mr. Xu from struggling, the guards handcuffed him to a chair and put shackles on him. A thick plastic tube was inserted from his mouth into his stomach and taped on his face. The tube was not removed after the force-feeding. Mr. Xu could barely breathe. If he moved even slightly, the tube poked his stomach lining and caused extreme pain.

Mr. Xu was subjected to such torture for five months.
