(Minghui.org) Hubei Province Legal Education Center is a covert location used for detaining local Falun Gong practitioners who refuse to give up their faith. As referenced in “Black Jail Profile: Hubei Brainwashing Center,” this “legal education center” is actually a brainwashing facility charged with “transforming” practitioners via mental manipulation and physical torture.
During the past decade, this facility has conducted forced brainwashing sessions on 1300 practitioners, at least three of whom (Wang Haoyun, Yang Xianfeng, and Zhen Yuling) died as a result of injuries sustained there. Many more became physically disabled or suffered mental breakdowns over that period.
Most recently, a total of 22 Hubei practitioners were arrested between December 2013 and June of this year. As shown in the following table, they come from 7 cities and 4 counties within the province. Xianning City had the most practitioners (5) arrested, while the rest of the locales had 1-3 residents taken into custody.
Except for one practitioner (Ms. Xiong Fenglian) who escaped on the way to Hubei Province Brainwashing Center, all of the other 21 practitioners were taken to the facility for forced brainwashing. Most were sent straight there following their arrest, while a few were kept in some other facilities before being transferred to the center.
March of this year saw the most admissions to the brainwashing center (7), followed by May (6), April (4), and June (2). In addition, two practitioners were arrested and sent to the brainwashing center back in December of last year.
Among the practitioners are several professionals who were taken away from their workplaces, including Xu Changhong (Xianning City Central Hospital) and his wife Su Xiaolian (Xianning City Agriculture Department), Chen Song (Hubei Yuandong Company), He Zhuojun (Suizhou City Bureau of Commerce), Liu Longping (Gongan County Bureau for Industry and Commerce), and Xie Jinping (Xintiandi Preschool).
Xie Jinping, who is originally from Hubei Province and now runs a preschool in Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province, was arrested while teaching her students and then driven all the way back to her hometown. Chen Song, an engineer, saw his computer, cash, cell phone and other personal belongings confiscated.
The 21 practitioners have all been subjected to various degrees of physical and mental abuse. Li Qiguo went on a hunger strike for more than 20 days in protest. He is now emaciated and cannot walk by himself. However, the brainwashing center still refuses to set him free.
