(Minghui.org) Mr. Ma Zhiwu, a resident of Yinchuan City, Ningxia Autonomous Region, filed a criminal complaint against former Chinese Communist Party leader Jiang Zemin. The 46-year-old man accuses Jiang of initiating the persecution of Falun Gong that resulted in his being wrongfully detained for 12 years.

Mr. Ma mailed his criminal complaint to the People's Supreme Court and People's Supreme Procuratorate in June 2015.

Mr. Ma was first given three years of forced labor, shortly after he was arrested in September 1999 for appealing for Falun Gong. Because he went on a hunger strike to protest the illegal detention, the authorities sentenced him to six years in prison at the two-year mark of his labor camp incarceration.

On his scheduled release date of November 6, 2007, he was taken straight to a brainwashing center, where he was detained for two more months.

Mr. Ma was arrested again on September 12, 2010 and sentenced to three and a half years in prison.

He suffered brutal torture during his years of incarceration, and was on the verge of death several times.

His wife was pregnant with their daughter when he was first arrested in 1999. The little girl grew up without her father around. She was taken into police custody when she was two years old, as the police tried to use her to force her mother to renounce Falun Gong.

Background

In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.

The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners in the past 16 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.

Under his personal direction, the Chinese Communist Party established an extralegal security organ, the “610 Office,” on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang's directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.

Chinese law allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.
