[Clearwisdom.net] At around 10:00 am on December 29, 2000, General Chi Haotian, arrived at Tiananmen Square to investigate the current arrests of Falun Dafa practitioners who engaged in peaceful appeal.
By 11:00 am, Luo Gan and some officials of the Bureau of Public Security also arrived at Tiananmen Square. They secretly informed the police to take stricter measures against Falun Gong.
December 29, 2000
On December 29, 2000, many Dafa disciples unfurled banners or passed out flyers in order to validate Dafa. Some practitioners were brutally beat by police officers, even to the point that their eyes were swollen, and their noses and mouths were bleeding. Despite this, practitioners were firm in standing up for the righteous principles of Zhen, Shan, Ren (Truth, Compassion, Forbearance) and continued to clarify the truth. At the National Flagpole, some practitioners unfurled a 99-meter long banner. They said loudly, "Falun Dafa is Good," "Return the Reputation to Falun Dafa," "Good is rewarded with good and bad with bad." No matter how hard the policemen punched, tripped and kicked them, they protected their banners courageously. The whole event lasted near 10 minutes. About 100 practitioners participated in it. Near the end of it all, the officials cut the beautiful banners into pieces. Furthermore, they divided practitioners into 7 to 8 groups with the broken banner and beat any practitioners left standing with the remainder of the banners. These practitioners refused to go into police vehicles, and continued their peaceful chants. This continued another 20 minutes before I left Tiananmen Square.
December 31, 2000
It was the last day of year 2000. Wave upon wave of Falun Dafa disciples advanced to Tiananmen Square to make a stand to stop the persecution of Falun Dafa. Unafraid to reveal the truth to others about Falun Dafa, they used their physical bodies to protect and validate Dafa.
At around 10:30 am, a male practitioner started to practice and was then instantly beaten. His blood streamed down his face, and he was quickly whisked away into the police van. By noon, Dafa disciples began unfurling banners, one after another clarifying the truth. At about 4 PM, Dafa disciples from Shandong Province unfurled a huge100-meter long banner in Tiananmen Square. The sincere hearts and courage of Falun Dafa disciples gained much notice from onlookers. Even the police were caught off guard by the practitioner's efforts and some even trembled with fear. One officer mistakenly arrested a plainclothes agent and the two of them were fighting with each other; the crowd chuckled with amusement.
With the coming of the New Year, the Bureau of Public Security began their vicious arrests of Dafa disciples. They questioned about 4,000 people, and examined 3,500 purses in Tiananmen Square. This lasted into the night, and they arrested nearly 300 Dafa disciples (approximately 100 males and 200 females). Another group of disciples were also arrested at around midnight near the bamboo garden of the National Museum of History. It was roughly estimated that 10,000 disciples were arrested in Tiananmen Square during day on December 31; even the police vans were not enough to hold them. In Beijing, the arrests and interception of Dafa disciples took place throughout the day and lasted into the following morning. An estimated total of 10,000 disciples were arrested.
According to the insiders of the Bureau of Public Security, an urgent notice was released at 5:00pm on December 31, proclaiming that all the main streets in the city were to be under martial law. Meanwhile, a number of public security officers, military officers and plainclothes policemen were arranged to be on post. The notice also required that every entry into Beijing and/or all major intersections be watched. One to three vans were requited at each entry in order to carry away the Dafa disciples. In addition, the Bureau of Public Security required that all disciples arrested by the Joint Defense, the Security and the Organization of Residence be sent to local police stations.
January 1, 2001
On the morning of the New Year's Day, Falun Dafa disciples unfurled many banners, and were thus beaten by police. At the moment the nation's flag was raised, four Dafa disciples spread out a banner, this commenced a tide of peaceful petitions.
At 10 am, a banner was unfurled on a bus traveling from outside Andingmen to downtown.
At 12 noon, a Japanese foreign student of the People's University took some pictures, and refused to give the film to police. He was sent to the 5th office of Bureau of Public Security.
Two Dafa disciples were arrested at Guanganmen, due to hanging banners and distributing flyers.
Dafa disciples from Hebei Province distributed a great amount of truthful materials at Muxuyuan Shopping Center. They all managed to get home safely.
One taxi was driving fast on the 3rd cycling highway with a Dafa banner hanging on the back. Police failed to stop it.
Many police vehicles and police boxes were sprayed by colorful words, "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance," and "Falun Dafa is good!"
Meanwhile, countless Dafa disciples were revealing the truth about Falun Dafa by using different kinds of methods to expose the evil forces.
Taxi Driver's Comments on Witnessing Violent Acts on Tiananmen Square
The morning of January 1, I took a Taxi ride through Tiananmen Square. I saw many police and plainclothes police on both sides of Changan Street. When passing by Tiananmen Square, I saw many police vehicles full of arrested Dafa disciples make their departure. Some Dafa disciples managed to unfurl a banner from the windows of the police van. In a distance, a male Dafa disciple was running about while holding his banner. Six to seven plainclothes police officers were chasing him. He evaded many plainclothes police, but was knocked down in the end. The taxi driver told me, a tourist came this morning and saw the plainclothes arresting and beating people. The tourist said angrily, "Anyone with a consciousness can no longer stand this!" The driver added, "Why don't they dare to wear the police uniform and do things aboveboard (rather than beating people in plainclothes/added by translator for clarity)?"
Sidelights of Defending Dafa at Tiananmen Square桪ecember, 2000, the Wisdom of Dafa Blossomed Everything
1. Answer with Wisdom; don't Voluntarily Let the Evil Take You Away
Disciple A was questioned by a plainclothes, "is Falun Dafa good or not?" The disciple felt that he had not made a good enough impression and remembered "don't voluntarily let the evil take you away." (Rationality) So he answered, "I do not understand what you are talking about." The plainclothes continued his interrogation, "What's in your pocket?" The disciple replied, "Why do you ask? Are all the people who come to Tiananmen Square forced to answer this?" The plainclothes left quietly. After he rested a little, the disciple unfurled a Dafa banner.
2. The Sound of Righteousness Echoed in Tiananmen Square
Disciple B found a crowd, took out a wireless speaker, and followed this with a clear chant that, "Falun Dafa is good! Falun Dafa is righteous! Return the Reputation to Falun Dafa! Return the reputation to my Master!" He was running and used his left hand to throw out flyers, and he unfurled a banner at the end. Many police were running after him, picking up flyers, grabbing his speaker and banner. They were quite busy.
3. A Human Falun Dafa Banner!
Disciple C unfurled a Dafa banner. When he saw police approach him, he came up with a bright idea. He wrapped himself with the banner, while throwing out flyers like snowflakes. Police took a great while to take away his banner.
4. Make a Feint to the East while "Attacking" in the West
Disciple D "dived" into the crowd and chanted, "Falun Dafa is good!" Police came, but he went to another crowd and chanted again, "Falun Dafa is good!" He did this 2-3 hours, and went back home safely.
5. Group Wisdom桾ourists
A tourist group came to Tiananmen Square. Two members stepped out of the group and unfurled a Dafa banner chanting, "Falun Dafa is good!" Police beat them. Some members of the tourist group stepped forward to reason with the police. Some blocked the police's vision with their bodies, so others could take pictures.
6. Using "Camouflage" to Escape
We were arrested in a police van. Police were body searching us, while some other Dafa disciples were unfurling banners. The police went down to the van to arrest them. The driver was busy watching his direction. I patted an older lady, who wore dark clothes similar to that of a police uniform , and said, "Go! Hurry go!" She did not hesitate and stepped out of the van after those police. When police looked back, they only saw us who were wearing bright color clothes. The lady with "camouflage" escaped right under their eyes.
