Elderly Female Practitioners in Benxi City, Liaoning Province Sentenced Up To 8 Years in Jail

Case 1. Dafa practitioner Cong Fulan, female, 66 year-old, from Benxi City, Liaoning Province, was taken into custody on March 2, 2001, and was arrested on April 25, 2001. On August 31, 2001, the Xihu District Court sentenced her to 8 years in jail on a charge of "committing a crime by using evil organization to block the execution of the law." This practitioner was accused of having photocopied and distributed about 4,000 copies of Falun Gong fliers between April and October of 2000.

Case 2. Dafa practitioner Zhou Yuyan, female, 60 year-old, from Benxi City, was taken into custody on March 2, 2001, and was arrested on April 25, 2001. On September 3, 2001, the Xihu District Court sentenced her to 6 years in jail on a charge of "committing a crime by using an evil organization to block the execution of the law." This practitioner was accused of having photocopied and distributed about 1,000 copies of Falun Gong fliers in October 2000. She was also accused of spray-painting "Falun Dafa is good," "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance" in Xihu and Caitun Districts of the city.

These two practitioners appeared in court at the same time on August 29, 2001. In the courtroom, I saw them calm and at ease, with a kindly expression. They used their positive personal experiences in Falun Dafa cultivation to defend Dafa and themselves. Their righteousness in the courtroom made the evil frightened, and gained admiration from their relatives, friends, colleagues and neighbors. In the final defending session, they stated: "Falun Dafa is innocent! Our Teacher is innocent! Falun Dafa is good! We will keep on cultivating all the way until the end!" Now they are in the process of appeal.

Case 3. Benxi City Dafa practitioners Wang Lijuan and Chen Shuwen were unlawfully arrested on April 25, 2001(Wang Lijuan was taken into custody on February 19, 2001). They have been indicted and are waiting for the session.

Case 4. Four Dafa practitioners Wu Xia, Bai Yang, Jiang Min and Bian Lihua were sent to the Masanjia Labor Camp.

This was another round of the evil forces' intensified persecution in Benxi City since July 1999, which aroused strong emotions among ordinary people. Many people commented, "An elderly woman is sentenced to 8 years in jail just because of her cultivation, and the sentence is even heavier than that of a criminal offence. What law is that?!"
