A Non-Practitioner's Opinion: Western Falun Gong Practitioners' Magnificent Feat in Tiananmen Square Shocks the Chinese Party Authorities

On November 20th, more than 30 Western Falun Gong practitioners from over 10 countries staged a peaceful appeal in Tiananmen Square. The Chinese police's crude behavior was as if they were being faced with a formidable enemy. In addition, their fast and low key handling of this incident showed that the Western Falun Gong practitioners' magnificent feat intensely shocked the Chinese government and that Jiang Zemin's regime is extremely afraid of Falun Gong. Its impact was no less than that of the peaceful appeal by ten thousand Falun Gong practitioners in Zhongnanhai on April 25, 1999.

If the "April 25" event touched off Jiang Zemin's suppression of Falun Gong, then, the foreign Falun Gong practitioners' peaceful appeal this time symbolized the complete defeat of that suppression, marking the beginning of the end of the Jiang Zemin regime's bloody persecution and the starting point of the rehabilitation of Falun Gong.

Before this, the Jiang Zemin regime had been trying to categorize the suppression of Falun Gong as China's own internal business, and had continuously claimed that [outsiders would be] "interfering with China's internal affairs," or they would use other means in order to stall the unanimous condemnation from various countries and the international community. Through their own state-run media, by buying [various] overseas media, and via their consulates in different countries as well as their delegations that canvass around, the Jiang Zemin regime actively brought false charges against Falun Gong overseas, even at the cost of damaging the national interests of China. Their intention is nothing other than to confuse the international community, and to evade the international condemnations and sanctions against the persecution of Falun Gong.

On the other hand, China's success in the Olympic bid and in joining the World Trade Organization impels the Chinese authorities to further open up the country. However, the control over press, the internet blockade and the violent autocracy adopted for the persecution of Falun Gong have seriously hindered China from assimilating into the international community. In addition, sectors within the Chinese XX Party [party name omitted] as well as various other social circles have well recognized the severe damage the persecution has brought to the country and the nation. More and more people have come to learn the truth about Jiang Zemin regime's brutal persecution of Falun Gong. The persecution has become extremely unpopular. On the other hand, it has helped Falun Gong to grow increasingly strong overseas.

At such a moment, over 30 foreign Falun Gong practitioners went to appeal peacefully in Tiananmen Square. Their act has shown to the world that the persecution of Falun Gong is not a matter of China's internal affairs, and that any citizen from any country who practices Falun Gong will suffer human rights abuses in China and will be denied entry to the country. The persecution of Falun Gong has already seriously violated international human rights and has damaged the international relations between China and other countries in the world. Moreover, this event has helped the international community to further recognize Falun Gong's peaceful nature of Truth, Compassion and Tolerance. It has also helped people to see more clearly the deceit, the evilness and the violence of the Jiang Zemin's regime and their state terrorism that is used in suppressing Falun Gong.

Presently, the international community's campaign against terrorism set off by the September 11 terrorist attack is developing like a raging fire. The crude treatment that those over 30 foreign Falun Gong practitioners experienced in China has awakened Western countries and the international community as a whole, of the need to act together and to aim directly at the state terrorism committed by Jiang Zemin in his persecution of Falun Gong. The hasty deportation of the over 30 foreign Falun Gong practitioners, precisely demonstrates how the Chinese government was impelled to handle the situation rationally under formidable international pressure. But this alone will not offer a fundamental solution to the Falun Gong issue. Jiang Zemin's state terrorism will inevitably bring about even larger scale repercussions to China from the international community.

Under great pressure from the government and society both inside and outside of China, the Jiang Zemin regime is now facing increasing resistance against the brutal persecution of Falun Gong from various members of the Chinese government, and from within the XX Party as well as from various social circles. Along with the growth of this force of justice and rationality, Jiang Zemin's evil group is declining rapidly, and is facing complete disintegration. Just as the poem by the founder of Falun Gong says, "The evil ones should think twice about their flagrant savagery, When heaven and earth are bright again, down to the boiling cauldron they go; Punches and kicks do little to change people's hearts, Violent winds usher in an autumn with even harsher chill." ("The Chill of Autumn's Winds") This is the precise portrayal of the current state of Jiang Zemin's evil clique. We can foresee that the date for the final trial of Jiang Zemin's gang is not far away.
