I am an alumnus from No. 14 Middle School in Wuhan City. I just heard that our English teacher, Zhang Shuangsong, has been detained illegally for almost 6 months because of practicing Falun Gong (Great Law; Universal Principles). I feel shocked and very sad at hearing this news. Teacher Zhang received high prestige and respect in our middle school. He treats others with consideration and was nicknamed "the superb of the Superb Teachers [Highest title and award for middle school teachers - by translator]". He impressed all who took his classes. Teacher Zhang not only taught us the English language, but also taught us how to be good people. It is said that he donated more than RMB1000 Yuan, earned from teaching summer classes, to help fight the big flood and aid the victims in 98'. That was unprecedented in our middle school. He has many such stories.
It's hard to believe that such a good teacher was detained illegally just for practicing Falun Gong! Teacher Zhang improved his health by practicing Falun Gong so much that he was able to add one more class to his teaching schedule. He said Falun Gong purified his body as well as his heart and helped him awaken to the true meaning of life by following the universal principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance". I admire Teacher Zhang and from his example, I am deeply moved by the great influences of "Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance". Who is qualified to be a good person if such a noble man would be sentenced to imprisonment? The persecution of Falun Gong is so brutal and unreasonable that they (the corrupt officials led by Ziang Zemin) arrested our amiable and respected Teacher Zhang! It is said that Teacher Zhang was a substitute teacher in a class for senior high students in the School of Foreign Languages, Wuhan University, when he was arrested. I know exactly how those students would feel when they learned that their great Teacher Zhang was arrested. What a great loss to the school and students, as he is such a positive influence!
It is a pity that I am unable to save our Teacher Zhang myself. So I strongly urge Jiang Zemin and his associates to release our Teacher Zhang and the other thousands of good people just like him! I also call on all students of Teacher Zhang to appeal to the government because as his students, we are the people who know Teacher Zhang best and we are best qualified to speak on behalf of him.
