[Tiananmen Square, Beijing] Information from Tiananmen Square on May 13, 2001
At about 9:30am on May 13, 2001, six Dafa practitioners suddenly held up a
Dafa banner reading, "Truth, Compassion, Forbearance," and said out
loud, "Falun Dafa is the righteous Fa [Law or Great Principle],"
"Falun Dafa is Good," "Restore our Teacher's reputation."
Plainclothes policemen mobbed the practitioners, snatched the banners from them
and forcibly dragged them into police vehicles. The good Dafa practitioners did
not cooperate with the vicious policemen, but the policemen kicked and beat the
practitioners anyway. A policeman grabbed a female practitioner's hair and
kicked her hard in the head. Another practitioner was kicked down to the ground.
Five other policemen dragged and pushed a practitioner onto a police vehicle.
This horrible, abusive spectacle lasted ten minutes. After the practitioners
were forcibly packed in the police van, they opened the door, unfurled a Dafa
banner and shouted together outloud, "Falun Dafa is Good!" Policemen
in the van harshly jerked the practitioners back and snatched the banner away
from them. Shortly after, in the west corner of Tiananmen Square, another two
practitioners held up a Dafa banner while saying out loud, "Falun Dafa is
Good!" The square was in chaos. A lot of foreign tourists witnessed the
scene. Policemen were so angry that they began to viciously beat up the
practitioners and dispersed the surrounding crowd that had gathered to watch.
Practitioners constantly went to the square throughout the whole day to validate
Dafa, an activity they continued until 4pm. [Note: International news sources
also reported that European visitors who filmed the scene had their film removed
from the cameras by the police and were required to erase their video film]
On May 13th, 2001, according to witnesses, altogether
approximately 300 Dafa practitioners were detained in Tiananmen Square without
due process of law.
[Beijing] Dafa Slogans Appeared in Beijing
From Sihui Road to the Beiyuan Roundabout, an eastern extension of Changan
Street, walls, trees and bridges sported red, spray-painted phrases reading,
"Falun Dafa is Good," "Falun Dafa is the righteous Fa" A
passenger riding a city bus who saw the scene was heard to exclaim: "Look,
Falun Gong!"
[Northeast China] Loudspeakers in a Northeastern China County Broadcast
"The Truth of the Tiananmen Self-immolation Incident"
On the night of May 14, 2001, Dafa practitioners set up five loudspeakers.
They broadcast the truth of the Tiananmen self-immolation to the offices of the
County Party Committee, County Government, Public Security Bureau, police
station, school and residential building, for all to hear. At first, this
planned, daring activity looked daunting to the Dafa practitioners, but they
easily completed what they set out to do. From this experience we sensed the
miraculous power of Dafa. Often, doubts creep in which try and prevent one from
achieving the positive goals. It is very important for us to generate and hold
on to righteous thoughts to eliminate the doubts and hesitations.
On the morning of May 15, Falun Dafa music echoed above the offices of the
County Committee, County Government, Public Security Bureau, police station,
school and residential buildings, which potently suffocated the vicious forces.
[Heilongjian Province] Practitioners in Heilongjiang Province Clarified the
Truth about Falun Dafa via a Loudspeaker.
On May 6, 2001, practitioners clarified the truth and spread the Fa with
wisdom. They placed a loudspeaker high off the ground, making it possible to
broadcast repeatedly for several hours. We think people in their work units and
also nearby residents benefited a lot. From various locations, several police
vehicles filled with policemen in a panic drove to the spot to remove the
"small" loudspeaker. The citizens looked very happy, while the vicious
policemen looked crazed, as if confronting an arch enemy.
[Nanjing City, Jiangshu Province] A Shameful End To the Judong Illegal
"Reform Class" in Nanjing City
October 2000 was the beginning of the illegal "reform" class in
Judong District. After Dafa practitioners went on a hunger strike three times,
the Judong illegal "reform class" ended on January 19, 2001.
However, personnel from the Gulou District Government of Nanjing City carried
out "disintegration" orders. They not only illegally asked ordinary
citizens to monitor Dafa practitioners, but also set up an unlawful district
"reform class" on January 20. At the beginning the class was held in
the Jingxi Hotel on Caochangmen Street. As the expense of 350 Yuan per day per
practitioner [about, 5 months of the average monthly income in China] for
holding the class there was high and was also opposed by some work
units, the "reform class" was transferred to 26 simply-built
bungalows behind the Xinchun residential building on Caochangmen Street. Nearly
20 practitioners are detained there. We urge everyone to
collectively resist the vicious persecution of Dafa.
[Nanjing City, Jiangshu Province] Information about Dafa Practitioners Being
Persecuted in Nanjing
Dafa practitioner Zhang Lining (female) had worked at the Academy of Social
Sciences. From December 2000 to the present, she has been detained in the
Changzhou Mental Hospital. She received this punishment because she went to
appeal twice for Falun Dafa in Beijing and also wrote letters of appeal to
officials in the provincial government and the central government, her right
under China's Constitution. She is now enduring suffering for exercising her
constitutional right.
Dafa practitioner Yang Xingfu (male), was the senior colonel in Nanjing's
Military Region. He was court-martialed and sentenced to 3 years in jail for
distributing Dafa materials.
Some work units were ordered to be responsible to "reform" those
Dafa practitioners who had been to Beijing and been involved in Falun Dafa-related
activities. For example, although Zhang Lining was imprisoned in a mental
hospital, the provincial government asked the director of the Provincial Touring
Department to add to her suffering and "reform" her.
In some areas, Dafa practitioners were forced to sign the pre-printed
"guarantee statement," to guarantee they would "not go to
Beijing, not have contact with other Dafa practitioners, not distribute Dafa
materials, and not practice Falun Gong..." Most of the practitioners did
not sign. The upshot was that, in the end, practitioners' relatives were asked
to sign the statements for those practitioners who would not sign themselves. In
some areas, as the authorities realized that Dafa practitioners would not sign
the statement to "guarantee to not practice Falun Dafa", they changed
it to "guarantee to not practice publicly."
Two retired officials were video-taped in a park and arrested, and detained
for 17 and over 40 days, respectively, for copying Teacher's article
"Rectifying the Colossal Firmament " in the park.
Other practitioners being persecuted:
Wan Yuanshang, Jiang Zhong, and Dai Xiaomin were sentenced to a 1-year forced
labor in a labor camp for holding up a banner in Tiananmen Square.
Wan Yuanzhen was sentenced to 1 ? years in a labor camp for distributing
Falun Dafa truth-clarifying flyers.
Zhang Aihong was sentenced to 3 years in a labor camp for appealing in
Beijing.
Cheng Xiuying was arrested because she went to appeal in Beijing.
Xiang Hong was detained 15 days. She was intercepted at a railway station on
her way to appeal in Beijing.
Jiang Tao was detained due to appealing in Beijing.
An elderly lady, Ms. Duan, was sent to stay in a labor camp.
Jiang Jianhuai was detained 15 days for appealing in Beijing.
Pang Hao, Ge Hongmei, were sent to a labor camp for appealing in Beijing.
Li Xueqin was imprisoned in a mental hospital.
Zhuang Cuihua was detained more than 1 month.
Wang Ting was sentenced to 2 years stay in a labor camp for duplicating Dafa
truth-clarifying flyers.
An elderly lady, Ms. Hu, a former contact person, was sent to a labor camp.
Pan Rujing was sentenced to 1 year in a labor camp.
Bao Shunyuan was sentenced to 1 year in a labor camp for attending an
experience-sharing meeting.
Cao Zhiyun was sentenced to 1 year in a labor camp for appealing in Beijing.
Three additional months of detention were added to his sentence for refusing to
write the "guarantee" statement.
[Jilin City, Jilin Province] Labor Camp Officers Brutally Abused Dafa
Practitioners
On December 2, 1999, I was sent to Jilin City labor camp and detained in the
second team of Unit No. 4. On the 2nd day of my detention, as I
practiced Falun Gong exercises, I was severely beaten. Team leader Liu and
guard Zhu beat me twice with an electric stun baton. At the end of
December they also beat another Dafa practitioner, Bai Yunxing, the same way. In
February of 2000, practitioner Jiang Yihong was brutally tortured with an
electric baton by the team leader Liu. Jiang Yihong was in such agony
that he couldn't tolerate any more pain. But Liu didn't stop torturing him until
he slammed his head against the wall.
In July of 2000, in order to validate Dafa, the following six Dafa
practitioners did the exercises together: Li Dianwen, Hou Yuji, Zheng Chengfan,
Bai Yunxing, Wang Hongliang and Jiang Yihong. As punishment, the guard forbade
us to sleep. We were still forced to mop the floor at the midnight hour. They
also handcuffed Zheng Chengfan to the iron bar of the bed frame and beat him.
One morning, the team leader Li found the six of us practitioners
performing the exercises. He fetched the electric baton and shocked Jiang Yihong
for half an hour, until the baton ran out of power. Once, simply because he only
spoke one sentence to practitioner Luo Guang, practitioner Wang Hongliang was
beaten by the team leader Wang Jinsheng. Another time, the team leader Wu
Yanwang beat practitioners Wang Hongliang, Luo Guang and Ji Wenguo,
because they refused to write the "Guarantee" statement [renouncing
their belief in Falun Dafa].
During the Middle-Autumn Festival of 2000, leader Wu Yanwang
bought a live duck and tried to force us to kill it, even though he knew that we
practitioners will not take any lives. We refused to comply, so he slapped our
faces with the sole of his shoe. Nevertheless, we still strictly followed the
requirements and standards of Dafa and validated Dafa through our actions.
[Anhui Province] The Current Persecution Situation of Dafa Practitioners in
Anhui Province
The evil forces of the Ma'anshan area were in their death throes. They
arrested more than 30 practitioners overnight, including those practitioners who
were accessing the Internet. A printing machine was also confiscated.
Practitioners suffered heavy losses.
Fang Lihua (male), a student of the class of ྜྷ at Anhui University was
illegally sentenced to 2 years forced labor for going to Beijing to appeal. Now
he is detained in the Nanhu Labor Camp (Farm), Anhui Province.
The department of Applied Physics at Anhui University expelled Wang Shengquin,
class of ྜྷ, for persisting in practicing Falun Dafa.
In October of 2000, Li Gangfeng (male), a student of the class of ྟ at
Anhui Agriculture University was arrested and illegally sentenced to one year
forced labor. His brother, Li Xuefeng, was illegally sentenced to 3 years in
jail for going to appeal in Beijing in 2000.
Wu Yuedi (female) from Hefei City, Anhui Province, was caught and about to be
taken away by the police from Wuhu Road Police Station. As she didn't cooperate
with the police, four policemen at last forcefully carried her away.
The College of Economic Management, Hefei Industrial University, expelled Wen
Yan (female), class of ྟ, for persisting in her Dafa cultivation practice. She
has been arrested twice for appealing and clarifying the truth about Falun Dafa.
Her mother, Shi Changying, was sent to a labor camp because of her appealing,
and now is illegally detained at Anhui Province Female Labor Camp.
On the evening of May 13, 2001, Dafa practitioner Ou Bin (male) from Hefei
City was taken away by officials from his work unit and also by personnel from
City Politics and Law Committee.
Officials from Anhui University are holding a "reform class" in
their guest house, located in the Xishi District, Hefei City. Right now, over a
dozen practitioners are detained there.
[Shanghai City] Dafa Practitioners Sent to Labor Camp
Fang Limin (female), 47-year-old, prior to the Chinese Spring Festival [January
24, 2001], the police requested her to write a "guarantee" that
she would not go to Beijing, but she refused. On the eve of the Spring Festival
she was arrested on her way to Beijing and was sentenced to 1 year of stay in a
labor camp.
Shan Feizhen (female), 56-year-old, was arrested last July for distributing
truth-clarifying literature and was released in the middle of February 2001.
After her release she was under 24-hour surveillance. She was arrested again one
month later. The police also confiscated many Dafa books and materials from her.
She is now in a labor camp.
Shanghai Dafa practitioners detained in labor camps are forced to write the
"Repentance" statement [to give up their faith in Dafa];
otherwise, they were not allowed to meet with their relatives. Additionally,
they have to work continuously for over 14 hours daily. They are enduring both
mental and physical torture.
[Heze City, Shandong Province] Information from Shandong Province
Wang Xiufen (female) and her husband are from Wangtang Village, Mudan
District, Heze City, Shandong Province. Because the couple was suspected of
setting up a loudspeaker for broadcasting the truth about Dafa, they were
unlawfully arrested by persons from Heze City Public Security Bureau. Now they
are detained in Heze City Detention Center. During the Spring Festival of 2001,
due to validating Dafa, Wang Xiufen was illegally detained for one additional
month.
Li Jiuge (female), 39-year-old, from Sunzhuang Village, Mudan District, Heze
City. On New Year's Day of 2001, she was illegally sentenced to 3 years of labor
camp for going to Beijing's Tiananmen Square to validate Dafa. Now she is
detained in Shandong Province Female Labor Camp.
Cheng Panyun (female), over 40 years old, is an employee of the Heze City
Court system. At the end of April 2001, she was illegally arrested for
distributing Master's new article and is now detained in Heze City Detention
Center.
Wang Qiumei (female), about 35 years old, was a teacher at Dongguan Primary
School, Heze City. In the middle of October 2000, she went to Beijing to
validate Dafa. Her whereabouts are since unknown.
[Beijing] Revealing the Inside Story of the "Reform Class"
Around "April 25th " this year (the day of remembrance
of the gathering of the 10,000 practitioners at Zhongnanhai) many
"classes" were held in Beijing in order to force Dafa practitioners to
give up their belief. The police arrested many practitioners directly from their
homes. In the "mind reforming" classes, personnel in charge of the
classes resorted to hypocrisy by arranging for the practitioners to live in
hotels and treating them to feasts. However, being employed by Jiang Zemin,
these people care only about their own interest and actually behave in a brutal
and shameless manner toward Dafa practitioners. For several days, practitioners
were deprived of sleep. When the practitioners had become muddle-headed from
lack of sleep, the police then took advantage of practitioners when they were
not in their right minds. They used the "1:5 brainwashing" tactic, a
particularly insidious method, which consists of five people indoctrinating one
Dafa practitioner with all kinds of evil and misleading information for 24 hours
a day. The government grants a 4,500 Yuan award (around $550.00) for each and
every "reformed" Dafa practitioner. They also forced the
"reformed" practitioners to brainwash other practitioners, and those who
succeeded would be directly compensated by the police department. If
the "reformed" practitioners refused to turn others away from Falun
Dafa, they then were considered to have a "mental relapse" and would
therefore be even more severely punished and abused.

Many "reformed" practitioners, after again being clear-headed,
deeply regretted what they had done. They right away publicly declared and
announced that anything they did and said that didn't conform to the standards
of Falun Dafa is invalid. Many such practitioners were forced to leave home
because they published such claims.
[Taikang County, Henan Province] The Persecution Situation of Dafa
Practitioners
Ma Xiangdong (male), in his 30's, was the deputy sheriff of Yangmiao Town,
Taikang County of Henan Province. On April 31, 1999, he was arrested in
Tiananmen Square for validating Dafa. After he was illegally detained for 4
months by Taikang County police, he was illegally sentenced to 3 years
in a labor camp. He is now detained in Kaifeng City of Henan Province.
Deng Jinzhong (male), over 50 year-old, was a government official of Taikang
County, Henan Province. On April 31, 1999, he was arrested in Tiananmen Square
for validating Dafa. After being detained for 4 months by Taikang
County police, he was illegally sentenced to three years of stay in a labor
camp. He is now detained in Kaifeng City of Henan Province.
Yang Hongqi (male), 24 year-old, is a resident in Taikang County of Henan
Province. On July 20, 1999, he was illegally detained for six months for going
to the Henan Provincial Government offices to appeal on behalf of Falun Dafa. In
August 2000, he was illegally sentenced to 3 years of stay in a labor camp for
distributing Dafa truth-clarifying materials. He is now detained in Xuchang City
of Hebei Province.
Officers from the Machang police station arrested twelve Dafa practitioners
in Machang Town, Taikang County, Henan Province for persisting in group study
and group practice of Falun Dafa. They were publicly tried alongside murderers
and felons, and were illegally detained for one month. After the New Year's Day
of 2001, Machang police illegally arrested more than 30 Dafa practitioners, and
held a class to force them to become "reformed."
[Chongqing City, Sichuan Province] Before May 1st, Dafa
Practitioners were Capriciously Arrested in Bazhong Area
We heard from a reliable source that before May 1st, 2001, in the
Bazhong area of Chongqing City, the local government arrested several Dafa
practitioners. The police refused to release anyone unless they paid 20,000
Yuan each [Note: approximately $ 2,400.00, a small fortune]. One
practitioner couldn't afford to pay the money. As a result, he was bound tightly
with rope and was forced to parade through the streets. This is a crime in
broad daylight!
[Dongwan City, Guangdong Province] Mailing of CDs is Subject to Inspection by
the Police Department
In Dongwan City of Guangdong Province, if you want to mail CDs, you have to
first go through the police department's inspection. Only after the police
personnel issue a certificate, which declares that "there is nothing
wrong" with the content of the CDs, can they be mailed at the post office.
We can see that the evil forces are afraid of the circulation of Dafa truth
clarifying materials. Just as Teacher has said in his article
"Suggestion," "The ones who are afraid of letting people learn
the truth are the evil ones, not the Dafa practitioners."
[Shenyang City, Liaoning Province] News from Shenyang City
Yesterday, May 13th, 2001, the local police forcibly took away
Dafa practitioner Jing Tian and his mother, directly from their home. Both are
from Yuhong District in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province. The location of their
whereabouts is unclear.
[Haerbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Police Arrested Practitioners on May 12
May 12, 2001 was again a very sensitive day for the vicious police. Several
minutes after two practitioners went to the apartment of another practitioner,
someone who pretended to be a "house management" staff knocked at the
door, but no one answered. Later, the two practitioners decided to leave. When
they walked into the hall, the two of them met with police and were grabbed
firmly by them, while the female practitioner escaped. Shortly after, several
police cars arrived. The police used the practitioner's school principal as a
decoy to lure the practitioners to open the door and then, without a warrant
or due process of law, forcibly took away another two practitioners. The
neighbors said, "Just because of practicing Falun Gong, such good people
are being arrested. What's so wrong about practicing Falun Gong?"
[Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Practitioners, Please Heed our Security Warning
From New Year's Day until now, several people who claim to be practitioners
from Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province have been lurking around. They bring
with them some well-bound micro versions of Dafa books and printed Dafa
materials, and give them to practitioners. They also say that they have many
more, and can deliver them here in a certain way. When money is needed they will
provide money. They also absurdly claim that some practitioners in other areas
are very rich and have provided a large amount of money. When appliances are
needed, they will tell you that they have them, ready for use. When other things
are needed to rectify the Fa, they can always satisfactorily provide them. They
move around in the Hubei Province area, all over Wuhan City and many other
surrounding cities and villages. They look for our practitioners everywhere, and
then try to get to know practitioners from other areas through the local
practitioners. However, up until now, according to what we know, without
exception, the police arrested all practitioners who have had any kind of
contact with them. We estimate there are two kinds of scenarios: one is that,
although they are practitioners, the government spies used them by following
them to lead them to other practitioners. This is most likely the case. The
other possibility is that they simply come for the purpose to do damage. We hope
practitioners in associated areas will take heed, in order to prevent greater
losses from taking place.
