[Beijing] Practitioners Who Refuse to Be Reformed Are Tortured in Xin'an Labor Camp

Dafa practitioner, Zhao Ming, male, refused to be transformed. Team leader, Li, of team four thus handcuffed Zhao's hands to a chair placed behind his back from April 25 to April 30. During this period Zhao was not allowed to sleep. From May 1^st until the end of the holiday week, guards tortured Zhao Ming by forcing him to stand or squat without any break.

Zhao Ming was arrested on May 13, 2000, and was illegally sentenced to 1 year of forced labor. He was supposed to be released on May 12, 2001, upon completion of his term. But since he persisted in cultivating Dafa and firmly refused to be transformed, his term has been extended by an extra half a year.

The leader, Su, of team six and a sub-team leader, Li, both beat practitioners older than their mothers. They completely lack humanity. They ordered the criminals in team four to physically punish and beat Dafa practitioners who have refused to be transformed.

[Beijing] Practitioners Validate Dafa on Tiananmen Square

Since April 25, 2001, Dafa practitioners have been going to Tiananmen Square everyday. Practitioners keep stepping forward. Some of them stepped forward because of the constant disturbance, harassment and pressure by the government in an attempt to prevent them from stepping forward. This pressure pushed them to the point that they have to stand up and step forward to tell the truth about Falun Gong and protect their human rights.

[Liaoning Province] "Falun Gong Is So Powerful!"

On May 1, 2001, two banners were hung on both sides of the main entrance of the largest park at the center of a city in Liaoning Province. The silk banner said, "Lord of Buddhas" and "the Fa rectifies the heaven and earth." They were hand-woven in commemoration of the 9^th anniversary that our Teacher made the Fa (universal principle) public. Both banners shone brilliantly under the sun and gained praise from passers-by. When a policeman tried to take down the banners, his arms shook. He kept saying to himself, "Falun Gong is so powerful!"

[Beijing] Expensive "Transformation" Facility Planned in Xicheng District

According to reliable sources, Xicheng district of Beijing has allocated a budget of 1 million Yuan RMB [8.3 Yuan is about 1 US dollar] to construct a large transformation facility near the Xin'an Female Labor Camp in Daxing.

Once every other week, starting from 5:00 am to 1:00 am the next day, policemen round up practitioners in one neighborhood after another in Xicheng district. It looks like the same thing will take place in other districts in Beijing. We hope fellow practitioners let go of their human attachments, hold onto righteous thoughts, and resist evil by all possible means.

[Chaoyang District, Beijing] Police Brutally Torture Falun Dafa Practitioners

On the morning of New Year's Day, after the ceremony of raising the national flag, I saw policemen start to arrest Falun Dafa practitioners. I stepped forward, unfolded the banner, and shouted loudly, "Falun Dafa is good!" As a result, over 10 policemen rushed up to me, shoved me into a police van and stuffed my mouth. The vicious policemen in the van kept beating us. One male practitioner was beaten until he fell to the ground and could not get up. Another over 60-year-old practitioner was also severely beaten.

After we were sent to the Chaoyang Detention Center, we were ordered to stay outside to wait. The cold winter weather made a two or three-year-old child cry. In order to force practitioners to tell their addresses so as to escort them back home, police interrogated and cruelly tortured us many times.

They forced me to take off my clothes until only my underwear was left on and I was bare foot, then they tied me to a chair and left me in snow-covered ground from 8 PM until 1 AM. Since their interrogation was not successful, they left me out in the snow again until the next morning. After that, several policemen interrogated me in turn, forbidding me to eat, sleep or go to the toilet. They abused, intimidated, punched and kicked me.

The torture lasted from December 25, 2000, until January 5, 2001; all practitioners in the detention center had experienced similar kinds of tribulations. In my cell, there was a female Mongol practitioner who was beaten by twenty male policemen; some practitioners' skin was frozen until it protruded. Policemen figured out various kinds of vicious tortures, such as clipping fingers and pouring cold water over us. Each cell had become a hell in the human world. It seemed as if the sky itself was crying along with the crying of the practitioners.

[Shanghai] Chen Wenying Loses Her Mind from Torture

Chen Wenying (female, 40 years old) was sent to Xuhui Detention Center for one month's penal detention because she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in July 2000. Later she was sentenced to one and a half years of labor re-education and detained in the forth team of the Shanghai Female Labor Re-Education Camp in Qingpu district. In March 2001, we heard that Chen was tortured until she lost her mind and could not recognize people. Moreover, the labor camp has forbidden her family to visit her for 4 months.

[Beijing] Blind Practitioners Suffer From Persecution

There are two retired workers, both of whom are blind, living in the residence in Xiangshan Rubber Factory, Xiangshan Botanical Garden, among them, Zhang, a 54 year-old female and her husband Su, 53 years old. They both practice Falun Dafa. On April 28, 2000, both of them were called to the office of their work unit to have a talk, however, when they arrived they were taken into a vehicle and sent to the Yanqing "education class." The leaders of their work unit and many colleagues accompanied them on a tour around the facility. During the tour the leaders persuaded them to give up practicing Falun Dafa, otherwise they would be sent to a "reform class." If that still had no effect, they would be sentenced to jail.

The husband and wife hardly have any contact with external society because of their blindness. Except for shopping for food, they do not go downstairs. Before practicing Falun Dafa, Zhang had many illnesses all over her body and only weighed 35 kilograms -- too low a weight as compared to normal condition. After practicing Falun Dafa, all those illnesses were gone and she regained her weight to over 50 kilograms (a good body weight as compared to her body size). Her mental and emotional condition had also improved considerably. The couple explained these benefits of practicing Falun Dafa to the leaders and also explained that in order to cultivate their hearts and be good people, in order to have healthy bodies, in order not to increase burdens for their work unit and family, they had to persist in practicing Falun Dafa; they were not allowed to go home until May 4 when the "education class" ended.

On May 10, at about 10 PM, policemen and residential committee personnel came to their home and forcibly took away Zhang to send her to the "reform class" set up by the Haidian Police Station. Because Zhang rarely goes downstairs and cannot live independently, Su asked to go with her. However, his request was refused, and he was told that he would be sent to the next "reform class." The policemen said the site of the "reform class" is close to Xiangshan Mountain, while in actuality, Zhang was sent to Daxing area. Her situation thereafter is unknown.

In the international community, blindness is regarded as a seriously disability. However, just before the day of "assisting disabled people" in China on May 20, this kind of inhuman incidence, which harms disabled people, occurred. We hope kindhearted people will respond to this issue and we urge those who are doing bad deeds to stop the persecution.

[Qingdao City, Shandong Province] National Security Bureau Persecutes Falun Dafa Practitioners

Since April, the National Security Bureau of Qingdao City has stepped up the persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners. Several practitioners were arrested, their homes were searched and properties confiscated, several thousand pieces of Falun Dafa materials and flyers, as well as computers and printers for printing Falun Dafa materials, were taken away. The National Security Bureau used special agents and plain-clothed police to watch over and secretly track Falun Dafa practitioners in their residences, monitor their telephone calls and pagers, etc. They used the "Judas" who had been "reformed" to betray Falun Dafa practitioners. Falun Dafa practitioners He Jun, Liu Bo, Xu Zengcai, Zhou Ruitao and others were arrested. They were secretly imprisoned at the Navy Guest House on Hongdao Road in the south district of Qingdao City, and now they have been transferred to other places. Their whereabouts are unknown.

Some Falun Dafa practitioners were compelled to leave home. Female practitioners, Wang Jinling and Huang Yan, from Qingdao City were arrested, and their whereabouts are currently unknown.

[Neijiang City, Sichuan Province] The Crimes Committed by Yu, Chief of the Public Security Bureau of Weiyuan County

In Weiyuan County, at least 20 Falun Dafa practitioners were illegally detained or imprisoned indefinitely. The chief of the Public Security Bureau, Yu, insanely persecutes Falun Dafa practitioners in order to get rewards from higher authorities. Yu incites his wife (who runs a copying center) to charge high prices for photocopying Falun Dafa materials, accumulating wealth, and then she secretly notifies him of Falun Dafa practitioners' activities.

[Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province] Bitter Experience of 20 Falun Dafa Practitioners

I was arrested while distributing truth-clarifying literature in April and temporarily detained at Shahe Penitentiary of Guangzhou City. I witnessed 20 Falun Dafa practitioners who refused to give their names and addresses were locked up at two warehouses there. Each warehouse was only 5 to 6 square meters. There was no water supply in the warehouse, and twice a day only about 5 kilograms of boiling water was delivered. Drinking and rinsing all depend on this water, leaving no water to flush the toilet, let alone to wash one's hair or take a bath. It became very smelly in the warehouse.

The environment was quite bad in other ways as well. Every day two very small meals were supplied -- less than fifty grams each. It was only after everybody went on a hunger strike to protest this treatment that the wardens increased the food quota, but it was still insufficient. These conditions have already lasted for more than ten months. Moreover, in the penitentiary, food is sold two times every day, but Falun Dafa practitioners in those two warehouses were never allowed to buy the food. I helped the practitioners get water and buy food, but the police locked me up and beat me. We call on kindhearted people to take notice of these 20 Falun Dafa practitioners' situation.

[Tangshan, Hebei Province] Inside Story About Falun Dafa Practitioner's Sufferings in Kaiping First Labor Camp of Hebei Province

I am a Falun Dafa practitioner who was once a so-called "reformed" person. I have already declared the "guarantee" and "break-off" letters I wrote to be invalid, and I will firmly cultivate Falun Dafa now.

In the First Labor Camp of Hebei Province, the police officer arranged for me to join some "already reformed" people in order to "reform" me. Each time, five or six of them surrounded me to persuade me until my head became dizzy. They did everything possible to disturb and forcibly reform me, continuously attacking me for several days. They even watched me while I was eating or sleeping. They also put those practitioners who did not "reform" in "reform classes" to listen to those people who had already been reformed. In nearly every "reform class" about 10 reformed people would concentrate on one practitioner. In order to resist the wicked police, some Falun Dafa practitioners went on a hunger strike. The prison guards then inserted tubes to force-feed them. They also threatened to charge 3-5 Yuan RMB for each tube feeding. Sometimes they would force-feed 2 or 3 times a day, each time about 10 big syringes of food were fed. Some practitioners threw up after the tube feedings. But the prison guards would immediately feed several more syringes of food after the practitioners threw up. The chief of the labor camp would make fun of this torture while watching on the side. Some Falun Dafa practitioners screamed while the tubes were inserted.

Those practitioners who did not "reform" would be taken over by male police officers. If the practitioner went on a hunger strike, the prison guard would force the practitioner to run or parade step in the drill grounds, to wash the restroom and do other kinds of labor. Some practitioners were locked up in single cells (confinement rooms) and special agents responsible for "reforming," would talk all day until the practitioners were confused and finally wrote the "guarantee letters." When persisting in cultivation, some Falun Dafa practitioners were hung up on trees and beaten. Despite the severe winter, some practitioners had on only unlined garments, some were stripped of their cotton-padded jackets and put in chilly rooms with all the windows open until about 2:00 A.M, some were beaten until black and blue bruises were left on their faces and blood streamed down the corners of their mouths, some were shocked with electric batons to such a degree that they lost consciousness.

When persisting in cultivation, one evening a female Falun Dafa practitioner was called by team leader Qin (female) to the office to be forcibly "reformed." Qin requested the practitioner to give up cultivation, but this practitioner replied that she would firmly cultivate to the end. Qin and Jia (another female team leader) brought in several male team leaders and intimidated the practitioner with electric batons and shocked her until she lost consciousness. The police secretly sent the practitioner to a hospital the same night. When fellow practitioners asked for her, Qin deceived them, saying that she was transferred to another "reform class." Two days later, they fetched this practitioner back from the hospital and put her in a single cell in order prevent other Falun Dafa practitioners from seeing her. Because she was beaten so badly, the police feared their crimes would be exposed if other practitioners saw her.

The prison guards used various means to cheat the practitioners, saying that 98% of the practitioners had been "reformed." In fact, only 10% had been "reformed." Moreover, many of those "reformed" persons became clear-headed after going home, and all declared their "guarantee letters" to be invalid. Only very few went on TV to defame Falun Dafa. At that time, we were brainwashed, and wrote the "guarantee letters" in the state of not being clear-minded. We very much regretted our submitting to the evil force and committing the serious crime of slandering Falun Dafa. Now we have sobered up, and regardless of how cruel the evil force may become, it can no longer shake our hearts. We will firmly cultivate Falun Dafa. What we believe is the great law of the universe, and each of us Falun Dafa practitioners must be responsible for the righteous elements in the universe. Above are our first hand experiences in the labor camp and our aspirations.

[Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province] Persecution of the Wu Dianhui Couple by Changzhou Normal Institute of Technology

Wu Dianhui, male, graduated from the graduate school of Shanghai Normal University and worked at the Changzhou Normal Institute of Technology. He and his wife are both steadfast Falun Dafa practitioners. In 1999, they went to Beijing to appeal and were closely monitored by both the institute and the public security department. Their personal freedoms were restricted. Both of them were discharged by the institute but were not allowed to leave the institute. On May 1, 2001, Wu Dianhui had gone to visit his schoolmate in Shanghai. But he did not reach Shanghai, and no one knew what had become of him. His wife Zhang Wuying fruitlessly went to the police station many times to ask for his release. However, in response to her entreaties the public security bureau dropped a hint to Zhang Wuying's school that it should restrict her freedom, which it did. Later, Zhang Wuying learned that Wu Dianhui had been sentenced to forced labor education. The order had been issued on April 4, 2001, and he had been arrested on May 1, 2001. The police apparently did not dare publicly arrest Wu Dianhui in Changzhou, and he probably had been kidnapped on his way to Shanghai.

Because she persisted in practicing Falun Dafa, Zhang Wuying was forcibly sent to a mental hospital by the principle of the institute and his accomplices, and given forced injections of drugs (at that time, Zhang was already 5 months pregnant).

[Hengshui City, Hebei Province] The Recent Situation of Illegally Detained Falun Dafa Practitioners in the No. 1 Detention Center

Beginning on the afternoon of May 4, 2000, Falun Dafa practitioners have been shackled. This was because they refused to accept the forced labor assigned by the prison guard and also asked for the release of those Falun Dafa practitioners who had received a long sentence and/or those whose terms had been arbitrarily extended. Four of the practitioners - Yang Xiai, Ming Xiulian (female) and two other practitioners whose names are unknown - were tied to the frame of a bed while wearing two shackles. 6 practitioners were handcuffed from the back including Song Yunsuo who is 58 years old, Xin Mingru, Shan Shuhong (female), and three others whose names are unknown. Some practitioners' hands became swollen within one day. Since they were fixed onto the beds, they could not even turn their bodies over. At the same time, they are not allowed to eat vegetables or other food. Instead they are given only 4 small steamed buns each day.

[Lanzhou City, Gansu Province] Taoshuping Detention Center Steps Up the Persecution of Falun Dafa Practitioners

Recently, Taoshuping Detention Center in Chengguan District, Lanzhou City extended the detention of illegally detained Falun Dafa practitioners from three-month terms to ones of indefinite length under the pretext of the so-called transformation. Falun Dafa practitioners will not be released unless they write statements attacking Falun Dafa and statements guaranteeing that they will quit practicing Falun Gong. The detention center has locked up practitioners in solitary confinement, in the hope that the unbearable loneliness of their cells would cause their faith to crumble. This tactic will fail. We Falun Dafa practitioners are able to use our righteous minds to do what we are supposed to do now, to leave behind the darkest moment before the dawn, and to embrace the splendid light and clear sky to come.
