Both Zhang Dong and his wife are Dafa practitioners. They got married because they share the same life goals.

Zhang Dongs left arm was amputated. He had to have emergency treatment in the Intensive Care Ward of Tiantan Hospital.

Zhang Dong, a 32-year-old male practitioner, became a web editor in Beijing after his graduation from college. He married a Falun Dafa practitioner. Their marriage was based on cherishing the same life goals.

On July 21 1999, the political gang headed by Jiang Zemin launched the crackdown to slander Dafa and persecute Dafa practitioners. Zhang and his wife were driven out of their home at Songyuli in Beijing because they held firmly to their belief in Dafa.

They rented a room in Tong County. In October 1999, some policemen illegally entered their home and confiscated their property. Then the police arrested Zhang Dong, his wife and his mother-in-law. Zhang Dong was detained in the Dongcheng Detention Center for 4 months. His wife and his mother-in-law were sent back to their hometown of Shenyang City. His wife was detained for over 4 months there. His mother-in-law was sent to the Masanjia Labor Reeducation Camp in order to "reform" her forcibly.

On November 6 2000, Zhang Dong was arrested again from another rental room at Songyuli in Beijing because the police monitored his cell phone and tracked him to where he lived. His property was once again illegally confiscated. He was then detained in the Chongwen Detention Center for a month. At that time, his wife was 7 months pregnant. Officers from the Huashi Police Station in Chongwenmen continued to harass them in their daily lives even after Zhang Dong was released. Zhang and his wife now had no way to make a living.

Right before the Spring Festival in 2001, the Chongwenmen police again took some illegal actions towards Zhang Dong and his wife because they refused to sign the "guarantee to stop practicing." Zhang and his wife had to leave their home to avoid further persecution.

On April 30, 2001, several cops from the local police station fiercely knocked at the door of their rented room at Yizhuang in Daxing Developing Zone in Beijing when Zhang Dong, his wife, their babysitter and their 2-month-old baby were taking a nap. The police neither explained the reason they came nor identified themselves, so Zhang Dong didnt open the door. After about half an hours knocking, the police claimed that they were going to "take action" if Zhang still did not let them in. Then, due to the policemen's violence, Zhang Dong and Liu Xiaohong (she was their babysitter and also a Dafa practitioner) somehow fell from the fourth floor and were badly injured. The left side of Zhang Dong's body hit the ground first and his eyes, ears, nostrils and mouth bled. An examination at the Tiantan Hospital showed that Zhang suffered three fractures in his left arm, three fractures, with bones shattered, in his left leg, a fracture in his pelvis and a lot of blood in his abdominal cavity. A large part of his intestines were bruised and injured. The wounds oozed blood continuously. He also had lung failure. Zhang gradually regained consciousness after being treated for six days in the Intensive Care Ward. Zhang Dongs left arm was amputated because the left side of his body was so badly injured.

After this tragic event, You X, the Director of the Chongwenhua Municipal Police Station in Beijing, deceived Zhangs wife into going to the police station, separating her from her husband and trying to forcibly "reform" her even when his life was in great danger. She didnt even know her husbands left arm would be amputated! Later when she learned this from her relatives, Zhang Dongs arm had already been cut off. Officers from the Yizhuang Police Station illegally searched their home and once more their property was confiscated.

Liu Xiaohongs back hit the ground first and she lost consciousness at once. The Tiantan Hospital said she had fractures in her legs and she was sent back to Hebei Province. (Liu is from Sanlangnan Town at Sanlang Region of Gucheng County in Hebei Province.) We dont have any further information about her.

Now the police, the local community and the Security Department at the Tiantan Hospital illegally monitor Zhang Dongs ward.

For the past 2 years, the political gang headed by Jiang Zemin has persecuted Falun Gong practitioners maliciously. In order to remain steadfast in their belief, Zhang Dong, his wife and many other Falun Gong practitioners have endured many tribulations that ordinary people are unable to endure.
