"Clarify the truth thoroughly, eliminate the evil with righteous thoughts, save all beings, and safeguard the Fa with determination" (Dafa is Indestructible) Brutalities at Tuanhe Labor Camp in Beijing Practitioners in China (Clearwisdom Net) Officers and guards at Tuanhe Labor Camp try to brainwash
practitioners by forcing them to study materials that defame Falun Dafa. Whoever
refuses to do so is tortured. Practitioners are not allowed to sleep until
2:00-3:00 A.M., and they have to get up at 6:00 A.M. They are not allowed to nap
during the day. Every practitioner is monitored around the clock, and they are
forbidden to talk to each other. When they try to help and support each other,
the guards swear at them and beat them up. They took away a practitioner's
notebook when he was trying to write down Master Li's articles from memory. In
May 2000, practitioner Mei Yulan died from torture, though the officers and
guards insisted she died from practicing Falun Dafa. They tried to force Li
Wanqing, husband of Mei Yulan, also a practitioner, to renounce Falun Dafa. Li
Wanqing, while grieving for the death of his wife, is determined not to give in under
the pressure and maintains righteous thoughts. He has been transferred to Xin'an
Labor Camp, and his term has been extended for another six months (He was
supposed to be released on February 5). He is now being subjected to brainwashing.
On July 7, 2000, Zhao Ming, male, was taken to Tuanhe Labor Camp. He was not
allowed to speak with other practitioners. On July 20, the guards started to
torture him. He was made to squat. When he could not hold the position any
longer, the guards hit him on the head and body repeatedly with a wooden stool
for two hours. The next day, Zhao Ming was put into a basin and pushed
underneath a bed. The board of the bed was thus pushed up. The guards simply sat
on the board to press it down on him. The torture lasted for two hours and both
of Zhao Ming's legs were totally black and blue. He could not walk on his own
for two weeks. Several guards participated in these acts. They said that it was
Jiang, chief officer of the group, who suggested this. The most zealous torturer
was given time off as a reward. During the night of July 22, with an electric
baton in his hand, a guard named Guo Jinhe forced Zhao Ming to sign a statement
denouncing Falun Dafa. Zhao Ming later revoked the statement. As a result, he
has been closely monitored and constantly tortured.
Wang Yanfang, male, a quiet person, once said, "Falun Dafa is righteous.
I will continue to practice." He was then locked up in a small cell that
was only big enough to put in a single bed. He suffered acutely from being alone
and isolated in the small space. According to the regulations of the labor camp,
one cannot be kept in a small cell for more than ten days. But Wang Yanfang
remained imprisoned there for more than two months. Because he continued to
practice, the chief officer of the group often shocked him with electric batons.
Sometimes he was shocked with more than ten electric batons at the same time, until the
batons had no more effect on him. Then they gave him sleeping pills, but at the
same time kept him awake for three days and three nights with continued torture.
Wang Yangang did not give in. To fight for his right to practice, he went on a
hunger strike until the chief officer had exhausted all available means of
torture.
When nothing changes practitioners' minds, the police resort to other tricks.
Using offers of employment or release from the camp as bait, they lure those
with shorter terms, who have been brainwashed, into working on the
practitioners. When the practitioners refuse to budge, the police return to
brutal tactics. Several guards tied up a practitioner and threw him underneath a
bed, slapping him in the face and kicking him all over with his leather boots. Wei
Rutan, Chen Gang, Zhang Dahai, and Duan Peichen, all male, were among the many
practitioners who were beaten. Duan Peichen could not walk for close to two
weeks.
Those who did the beating were Han Junqing, Guo Jianxin, Wang Kai, and Ma
Yanhui, under the direction of the group chief officer. Yao Pei, Li Jie, and Wu
Xianquan from Group Three poured cold water and dirty dish water onto
practitioners. When practitioners refused to give in, they start all over again.
Guards from Group Five performed similar crimes.
When practitioners hold firmly to their beliefs, the police extend their
terms without going through legal processes. At the same time, they continue to
abuse them. Wu Jun from Tuanhe has been tortured physically and mentally, but he
still maintains righteous thoughts. Other practitioners whose terms have been
extended are Li Wangqing, male, Zhang Dexing, male, and Zhu Xuanwu from Xin'an.
